Becoming a skateboarder isn’t easy because it takes time and effort to learn how to push on a skateboard or the basics like an ollie. The first time I tried skateboarding was very difficult
for me. I tried riding it and fell the first time trying. I knew in my head that this was because of
my balance. I would constantly be riding and after one push, I would lean over to the right side
and fall off the skateboard. Maybe it was because of the way my feet were positioned. I didn’t
really know because I wasn’t really what you call a skateboarder back then. After a day of riding
my skateboard, I felt like my future one day is to become a professional skateboarder. I would
constantly be riding my skateboard everyday after school. I would

It was the summer of 2012 and my family was taking another trip to Six Flags Great America. Earlier that summer we went just for me to be disappointed. At the time I wasn’t 54 inches yet and couldn’t ride any of the rides that I wanted to because they were the most popular at the amusement park. But, I hit a growth spurt between trips and we planned to ride all of the big rollercoasters. The one that I was most terrified of at the time was Raging Bull, one of the tallest, fastest, and longest steel coasters in the US. As we started to wait in line for the ride I was shaking with both anticipation and fear and began to rethink my idea to ride the rollercoaster. I decided to stay in line and see what many people thought was a great coaster.
Extreme Skateboarding is unlike any sport in the world and the athletic talent, skill and agility to compete at that level is 1:100,000. In the future these events and these riders will be using some new high-tech toys, namely; The Hover Board. It is the wave of the Future.
During the 1950’s when skateboarding first got it’s legs it was a very popular activity to take part in during vacations to ocean side tourist attractions, or as an activity after surfing. Yet, by 1965, skateboarding had diminished in popularity completely, therefore almost every skateboard manufacturer went out of business. . During this time the only people who even wanted to skateboard were surfers who needed something to ride to practice their surfing while the waves were flat. Due to the fact that there were no skateboards being made or sold, those who wanted to skate had to take it upon them-selves to manufacture their own boards. Using any kind of scrap they could find to build a usable board out of, such as metal scrap pieces or old planks. These determined surfers had to unscrew the trucks and wheels off of roller skates and attach them to the bottom of their boards. And because these kids were from very poor families for the most part, and next to non had jobs of their own, they had to resort to taking the trucks and wheels off the roller skates secretly in the stores. Although.., the clay wheels th...
In the sport of figure skating, there are six basic jumps for a skater to learn. They are the axel, toe loop, salchow, loop, flip, and the lutz. When a skater masters a single axel to a double lutz, it is time for them to learn the double axel. I was thirteen years old when I was introduced to this element. My coach and I set specific goals to include this element in my repertoire for the following competitive season. Landing a double axel is a huge milestone for any skater and it serves as a stepping stone to new competitive opportunities. However, such success does not come without hard work. It required several months of effort to successfully land it and nearly two years of patience
I could come to a resort and strap in my bindings for fun, and competition, to put the adrenaline through my veins. I had dreamed of professionally snowboarding ever since beginning to tirelessly learn how to turn my snowboard down the bunny hill slope. This bunny hill slope once seemed to be as tall as a giant but now I found myself to be the man on top of the X- Games slopestyle course. Now I had won a gold medal and had become a big name in the snowboarding business. I went from being a kid with high hopes of being on top and showing the world that anything can be done if you put your mind to it. The sport of snowboarding is what truly makes me happy and competing in large competitions is what the sport is about. These competitions would be the drive for my experience in the terrain park with friends, or just trying to progress my skills on my own. Ultimately, Competing in snowboard competitions as a professional snowboarder would prove anything can be done if you put your mind to it as it would drive me in life to have my dream job, all while being with friends and having an overwhelming passion for what I do for a
Did you know that Alan Gelfand was the one who invented or created the ollie. “The ‘Secret History’ Of Skateboarding’s Most Fundamental Trick” Alan really didn’t even mean to create the ollie in the first place. He was actually trying to do a lipslide with his friend Jeff but instead he did what his friend called an “ollie pop”. Soon after that word got around that Alan created the new trick called the ollie. After that, Alan was asked to be photographed doing his brand new trick the ollie. And then not long
If you live close to your workplace or travel frequently to a friend’s house that is only a short distance away, you have the option to take your vehicle, ride a bike, or walk. Wasting gas for a block or two is not always worth it, riding a bike is effort that most people do not want to deal with, and for many people walking is painful. That is why there are now scooters available. They are easy to use, rechargeable, and fun. As long as you have a desire to play and an ability to balance a little, you could be enjoying your time on a single wheel scooter and skateboards.
I was seven years of age when my mother taught me how to ride a bike. We walked to the shed and took my bike out. First step in riding a bike is to take the training wheels off. The bolts that were sticking to the bike like glue were tricky for my mother to take off. Once they finally came off, I put my helmet on, because my mother insisted we
A few winters ago, some friends invited my family and me to go snow skiing at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. I did not know how to snow ski, and I leaped at the thought of trying this new sport. On the first morning we entered the pro shop to rent all the gear and make decisions about whether or not to take lessons or go it alone. We decided to be adventurous and go it alone—no lessons. Kent and Celeste, the friends who invited us, knew how to ski and snowboard. He assured us that he could show us the basics, and we would be on our way down the slopes. All of us, after a few minutes learning how to wedge our skis started down the family trail. Although the family trail had smaller hills and appeared safe, to me it seemed way
young as I used to be and so my feet could not carry me faster. I
There I was standing on the hill. Hands gripped to my skateboard in fear. My friend staring at the road to warn me of cars. I set my skateboard down on the newly paved road and started down the hill flying past the trees and houses. Until I saw it, the line of cars heading my way. My legs and board shaking. I fall and summersalt down the hill. I stop myself and crawl into the wet grass. I grab my board, hands shaking and scratched. I lay on my back, head throbbing in pain, knees gushing blood, and clothes ripped. I close my eyes because of embarrassment and anger. The feeling in my chest I couldn’t comprehend. It was a feeling of hurt, I had failed at my favorite thing in the world and I never wanted to feel that again. That day I decided to turn my failure into success by practicing and accepting my family’s teaching me to never give up.
If you want to experience something new and incredibly fun, then you should go for standup paddleboarding. Standup paddleboards are without a doubt fantastic. It is true that it is quite hard to learn how to use them, but it definitely worth the effort, because the result will be spectacular. If you are a beginner, then you will certainly find very useful the following standup paddleboarding basics.
To paddle, you first lie on your surfboard – to do this body weight needs to be positioned along the centre of the board. Your feet need to be raised slightly off the end of the board. Your body needs to be far enough back to keep the nose of the board about a couple of inches out of the water. If you are too far forward on the board you will notice that the nose of the board keeps dipping underwater making it very difficult to paddle. It will take time to find the most comfortable position.
