Animal Abuse
In 1991, a ten year old boy killed his eight week old puppy by stabbing him in the rectum with a pencil. He was then convicted of juvenile court and counseling for a year (Cindy A. Intentional abuse is when someone is purposely doing something to hurt an animal. This type of abuse commonly causes wounds in animals. Intentional abuse happens normally when someone takes their anger out on an animal this is also known as “Homicidal Tridel” which is very common in teenagers and is a sign of psychological problem. Although people are not physically hurting the animal it is usually still classified as intentional abuse issue to this animal abuse an example is dog fighting. It is very common for the dogs to be raised in isolation and with lots of heavy chains and steroids to enhance their muscles (“The Criminal, Underground World of Dog Fighting” ). Horses are also affected by this by training techniques. “ Tennessee walking horses have a naturally high gait, giving riders less bounce. The high step serves as a natural shock absorber. Over the years, trainers have used special shoes and metal chains to encourage a higher step. Eventually, some figured out that the training could go faster if they abused horse’s hooves and ankles.”( Duane W. Gang, “2 Bills Aim to Rein in Tennesse Walking horse Abuse”). This shows how awful people can be if they want something and how they never think of the awful consequences it can have on the animal and what it might do to them or impact them. Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.
The number of animals that are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused adds up to over 100 million each year (11 Facts). Those animals’ lives are just as important as a human life and the lack of respect for these intelligent creatures is astonishing. The

Animals are used today for many sources of protection, food, clothing, transportation, sports, entertainment, and labor, but millions of these animals die each year from abuse. “Most of the reasons that people give for denying animals rights are: animals do not have souls, god gave humans dominion over the animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, animals do not reason, think, or feel pain like humans do, animals are a natural resource to used as humans see fit, and animals kill each other” (Evans). It all started in the nineteenth century, when people began abusing animals by beating them, feeding them poorly, providing them with no shelter or poor shelter, left to die if they were sick or old, or by cruel sports. Most of the organized efforts to improve human treatment of animals all started in England. Around the 1800s, there was signs of rising concern for animal welfare in the United States.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
This sentence is, however, not executed in practice. With some perpetrators not sentenced at all, despite there being evidence that they committed the crime. In some extreme cases, such abusers are allowed to continue keeping pets despite the suffering they cause on animals. I have also encountered other cases whereby abusers walk away scot free with the crime without even a case to answer. This needs to change since the life of an animal’s life also matters.

The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
Fear, suffering, danger, pain, and torture. These are all of the feelings that an abused animal feels. Only five states have had law officials directly take action against animal abuse. These states being: Idaho, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi and North Dakota. Animals are abused to their deaths everyday. These owners or abusers have no appreciation for human or animal life at all. When some people try to discipline their pets, they use tactics that they think are acceptable, when in reality, this is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside.
Whether the reason be that the animal became aggressive, the family couldn’t take care of it, or any other causes. Dysfunctions start to appear within the animal world. The owners begin to neglect their pets to the point where animals get horrible diseases and health problems including ticks, mange, broken bones, unintended pregnancies, heart warms, blindness, starvation, and more. These are all cases where a pet owner neglected or refused to follow the necessary steps to ensure a pet's health and happiness. Within the article Crackdown on animal abuse it states, “Psychologists, experts who study human behavior, say animal cruelty often stems from a desire by abusers to exercise power over helpless creatures” (pg. 1). A pets care and contentment starts to decline when an owner abandons the necessary steps mentioned in the previous paragraphs. Not only do some owners neglect their pets but abuse and cruelty begin to become a factor in some cases which can emotionally and physically cause and animal to
