Alcoholic beverage advertising absolutely has an enormous impact on consumption not only on adults but unfortunately also on minors; if a kid sees a commercial about beer everyday eventually he’s going to try it before he gets to the legal age. Underage drinking can lead to a lot of problems, when your intoxicated you tend to do stupid things and being young that tends to happen a lot which can lead to you being arrested or you getting into an accident which can lead to someone’s death “A ban on broadcast alcohol advertising would save 2000 to 3000 people annually from death due to alcohol related motor vehicle crashes”, Henry Saffer makes a good point, if we can limit the amount of deaths that occur annually just by banning alcohol advertisement …show more content…

but still cant consume a “can of beer”, I believe it starts to become a problem when it starts to become addictive and the younger you start the better your chances are of getting addicted. It makes a good point when it starts talking about 20 years olds, at that age you are still considered underage so it would be difficult for the broadcaster to distinguish what’s suitable for a 21 years old that “might be construed as impermissibly targeted at a 20-year-old”. I don’t think there is a big difference in maturity from someone who is 20 and someone who is 21 but personally I notice a big difference in maturity when I was in my teens to now (22). Therefore I wouldn’t mind if the age was changed to 20 but nothing younger. As I continued, I notice it started to talk about the first amendment values, and how there is little evidence of any connections between ads and underage drinking, I disagree there is a reason why they spend in enormous amount of money for commercials. It targets not only adults but also kids the more they see it the more they’re going to want to try it. Commercial free speech should be tossed out the window if it’s impacting the youth in a negative way.
