How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? How would you feel if you were never given the chance to come into the world and contribute to the human race? These are some of the questions an individual needs to ask when considering having abortion. Abortion, in my opinion, is immoral and unjust simply because it is murder. A brutal murder of a being who has not even seen the world and a huge injustice to a helpless fetus who might have been the next Einstein, President, or the person who would find a cure to cancer. Morality says that every person has the right not to be unjustly killed. Hence, this right also apply to any unborn child. The thought of an individual killing his/her own unborn child is always lurking in the back of my mind because it’s hard to assert the harm being caused by the unborn child to the mother or to the society in general. If we say abortion is morally right, then we are against procreation and procreation is one of the major contributions of a human being to his or her society and the world at large. The act of procreation is one of the most beautiful things in the world. To make a human being, being able to watch that kid grow into an adult and actually be responsible to the society, should be a very fulfilling experience for any mother. I hereby oppose the principle of paternalism because I don’t believe it is moral to take away or destroy the life of an unborn child to save the life of the mother because there is no harm caused by the unborn child but I support the harm principle because abortion in general, causes harm to the unborn child, his future, the mother and the society. ...These women would adopt the children who would’ve been otherwise aborted. Adoption presents the option for mothers who are neither financially or emotionally equipped for raising a baby. Moreover by not legalizing abortion you are saving many to-be mothers from aborting there to-be babies by force. So, this option not only enables barren parents to be able to adopt the unwanted child but also exempts the consideration of abortions.
In conclusion, a fetus is a potential human being that has moral rights like an adult do and the fetus may have creations and inventions it might establish to better our society. The bottom line is that the fetus/child is innocent of any crime, so why punish it?
In Dan Marquis’ article, “Why Abortion is Immoral”, he argues that aborting a fetus is like killing a human being already been born and it deprives them of their future. Marquis leaves out the possible exceptions of abortion that includes: a threat to the mom’s life, contraceptives, and pregnancy by rape. First, I will explain Marquis’ pro-life argument in detail about his statements of why abortion is morally wrong. In my previous essay, I argued that abortion is immoral, but can be countered against depending on the person and the situation given. My view has now changed to where abortion is morally permissible under certain circumstances. This change of views occurred after reading Warren, Thomson, and Marquis' arguments throughout the course. Coming from a family and culture that shames a person who favors abortion, I solely believed abortion was immoral until taking this class. I wanted to clarify that my view on abortion is morally permissible if the pregnancy was affecting the mother’s wellbeing, financial stability, or if she does not feel prepared or lacks education to care for a child.
In this paper I will argue that except in the case where the conception was happened unwillingly such as rape, and pregnancy which might harm the mother of the fetus, abortion is morally wrong and thus should not be allowed. In the following paragraph of this paper, I will discuss, evaluate, and raise an objection to Don Marquis’s main argument of his essay “Why Abortion is Immoral”.
An issue that has flared up in today’s society, abortion is a highly debated topic that has sparked some of the most violent discussions. The rapid growth in teenage pregnancy has only increased the amount of attention that has been drawn to abortion and whether it is ethical or not. While some say that a woman is in power of her own body and can make choices based on her best interest, some take much offense to that and demand that a baby is a baby no matter how small it is and that abortion is never okay. It is important to know going into this debate that to argue one side, one would have to be 100% consistent with that decision because of all of the grey areas that come up regarding abortion. With that being said, I still believe that a mother should take responsibility of the situation and recognize that, even though it is minuscule, a baby is a person the moment it begins to develop inside of her.

The baby in the womb can feel pain around 16 weeks into the pregnancy. To begin, a woman can “ have a surgical abortion...up to 22 weeks” (...). By this time the baby can already feel pain, and has a heartbeat at 5 weeks, the baby is a human once the egg connects to the sperm. The baby is not just a simple organism anymore, the baby has a heartbeat and is practicing breathing. Abortion is the same as murder, just because the child can stop it or have anything to say about it doesn 't change what it is. Just because the baby cannot live on it’s own does not mean the baby is not living. The baby may not be able to function on its own, but it is already developing. For instance, at three months the baby’s “unique fingerprints are now in place” (...). The baby is developing bone structure and even fingerprints. The baby is quickly developing a self identity, the baby is a growing human being just like us. There are other options for the mother if she cannot take care of the child. If every baby that was aborted was given up for adoption instead, a woman could have a child to care for and love unconditionally. Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is murder and No one should be able to decide whether who lives or dies. Abortion has been a controversial topic in the U.S ever since it became legal in 1973 after the Roe v. Wade case. Abortion is defined as the, “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is unethical and argue that it is the mother’s responsibility to own up to her actions. Women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abortion as; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The idea of a woman’s right to have an abortion being taken away is merely incomprehensible.
First of all, in many scenarios, an abortion is necessary and it would be wrong not to let the mother choose an abortion. For example, if a woman is raped, is she expected to keep the child? Of course not! Even if the mother decided to have the baby and support it, for the rest of her life she will be burdened simply because she was a victim of a predator. Also, if a woman was being safe and using protection, and the protection failed, she should be given the chance to choose. Although it was partly her fault, she was being responsible for her actions and practicing safe sex. Finally, there is the circumstance under which tests prove that if the baby is born, it will be deformed or handicapped. Such a child will suffer for the rest of their life, however short it may be. Though the parents may choose to keep the child, if it will suffer physically, they might want to stop its suffering before it even starts.
As a freshman in high school the thought of anyone my age getting an abortion is frightening. I can’t imagine killing an unborn baby that has no say in whether they live or die. The fact that teenagers my age have to make these painful decisions is upsetting. Having to make that decision at such a young age is frightening, because I don’t even think it’s a decision. Some women who are uneducated about their options think that abortion is the only answers if they don’t want/can’t keep their baby. That’s why I think teens, and everyone in general, should be educated about their options.
