Coming into a new high school, freshman year, I had to learn about how to adapt to the school and the environment very quickly. I still remember the first day I walked on campus one hot summer sunny day. As I walked up and down the campus walkway I stared at each of the eight buildings, intrigued with each building’s unique structure and amazed that each building was made out of actual bricks. I was terrified, lonely, and did not know what to do or think about for my first day of school. The night before, I was so worried, I had butterflies. I could not stop thinking about how different the schoolwork was going to be and how I was supposed to make friends. I left my room to go tell my mom that I could not sleep. She then told me, “Everything …show more content…
In that class, we learned that the school does a lot of events for many of the clubs, such as several fundraisers and other events. We also learned about what we are going to do in some of the courses we take. For example, in our English classes, during our high school lives, we will have to do something called speech, which every student begins in sixth grade at the school, and something called a research paper. When I remembered when my instructor told us about those two big grades for each semester the night before I really became unsettled and was terrified to go to …show more content…
When it finally became to be my turn to give my speech, I did not worry as much anymore because I practiced, and made it passed the minimum time. Once I walked up in front of the classroom and put my notes down and looked up, I realized that the whole class was watching me. I could feel each and every person eyes staring into my soul. I looked around and then I froze in front of the class, I would open my mouth but nothing came out and my legs began to shake and I felt like they were giving out. As Mrs. Lovegren waited for me to give her the okay symbol so she could start the timer, she realized that I froze and could not talk or move. I began to start to feel sick in my stomach. I wanted to throw up, but I didn 't at the same time. Mrs.Lovegren helped me to snap out of my paralyses by taking me outside to talk to me. She said, “Don’t worry about your speech just talk until you pass three minutes that’s all you have to do. As long as you breathe and have fun, you will be fine. Okay?” I then nodded to her. As we walked back into the room I looked at my peers one more time and began to start talking in class about my speech. When my speech was finally over, my classmates clapped harder than they did for others, and I did not understand why. When I looked at Mrs. Lovegren to see what my time was, she was just smiling at me. I then realized why, I ended my speech with one-second left. I had six minutes and fifty-nine
Anxiety ran throughout my entire body the morning before my first class of college began. Not knowing what to expect of my professors, classmates, and campus scared me to death. I knew the comparison to senior year of high school and freshman year of college would be minute, but never did it occur to me how much more effort was need in college until that morning, of course. Effort wasn’t just needed inside of the classroom with homework and studying but also outside of it where we are encouraged to join clubs, get involved and find a job. Had I known the transformation would be so great, I’d have mentally prepared myself properly. It’s easy playing “grown-up” in high school when one doesn’t have to pay expensive tuitions, workout a
Benjamin Franklin once stated “Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
SOURCES: You will need to incorporate at least four (4) of these sources into your essay. If you use too few sources, your own argument will appear uninformed and superficial. If you use too many sources, your own argument will get lost in the clamor of all those other voices. The trick is to use enough sources to prove that you’ve read about and thought through the issue, which includes using sources to support your position and sources to offer counterarguments to your position. Four sources is a good target number to find that balance
Starting high school is tough for some people. Moving to a new city is also tough for some people. Or me I had to deal with both. I can remember my very first day of high school, I was so nervous. I didn’t make any friends over the summer so I didn’t talk to anyone. I was pushed out of my comfort zone to talk to people and make new friends. A few months into school I received my first interim. It wasn't the greatest but , I blamed it on my transition to high school and promised that
When I sit down to write a paper I simply just stare outside from where I’ am sitting, until a great sentence comes flying across my head. If that doesn’t work or simply start double guessing myself, I end the conflict in bringing both my sister and parents into the argument. As a result, they end up resolving the issue through stating what sounds great on the sentence, or what can be done to make it sound better, by following all prerequisites. Most of which ends up giving an excellent pay off, since my parents are in my personal opinion a great help when it comes to starting an essay. While others may argue that parents don’t have sufficient educational background as to help them with anything related to school.
For those in high school already starting to focus on college, there is a drive to do well in all areas of their character to boost the appearance of their college application. Students usually try to excel on the SATs, maintain a high GPA, and involve themselves in extracurricular activities in order to become the well-rounded, “renaissance man” or woman that colleges can’t surpass. Students understand that it is important to try their best in everything that they do, but should a three-hour, multiple choice test be a deciding factor on whether or not a person gets accepted into a college? Critics of the SAT accuse it of being classist, racist, a poor reflection of academic promise, and plainly unnecessary. The idea of the SAT is has potential
Throughout the semester, I have developed many skills and have greatly improved on my writing. At the beginning of the year, I had no clue how to format a paper in APA. I had only used MLA format before this year, so I was clueless. Also, I never knew how to correctly write an introduction. I did not know that an introduction needed to include a hook. I knew that it needed a thesis statement but I was never writing my thesis correctly, until this year. Finally, I never knew how to correctly include transitions.
I can remember sitting in class, feeling eyes burning through me, dodging inquisitive glances from all sides, and anxiously awaiting the bell to ring for lunchtime. As most people know, lunch is the most dreaded part of the first day at a new school. First day of school memories are still fairly vivid for me; my father was in the JAG corps in the Army and my family moved with biannual regularity. In fact, I even attended three different high schools. While this may seem highly undesirable to some, I learned an incredible amount about myself, the world, and other people through movement that I may never have learned otherwise.
Around the world there are countries that still don’t allow some or all of their citizens to vote. However in America the right to vote is simply given to every American citizen over the age of 18. So you’d think that every US citizen over the age of 18 would be voting for everything, right? WRONG. Out of everyone in the US only 57% voted at our last presidential election. So out of the two hundred and forty-eight million people in the United States of as of November 30 who are eligible to vote only about 57% of the population will vote for the presidency. So out of two hundred and forty-eight million people only about one hundred and forty-three million citizens will cast their vote in the upcoming presidential election. And this is a vote
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.

It was the second semester of fourth grade year. My parents had recently bought a new house in a nice quite neighborhood. I was ecstatic I always wanted to move to a new house. The moment I realized I would have to leave my old friends behind was one of the most devastating moments of my life. I didn’t want to switch schools and make new friends. Yet at the same time was an interesting new experience.
