When I started on this course I didn’t know what to expect. After reading the syllabus and looking at what was required from the course – I became very nervous and questioned how well I would do. I never saw myself as a strong writer so my lack of confidence just added to my apprehension. I knew I needed to work on my writing skills but I didn’t know what to expect or what I would get out of the course. I now know that my concerns were unfounded – when you have the clear understanding of your topic, which approach you are going to take and what points you are trying to make to your audience then writing seems less difficult.

I needed to make sure I had all the research material to support my assertion on the subject I had selected to write about. I had decided to write about hydraulic fracturing; how I thought it was harming the environment and our water resources. I read so many articles and trying to make sense of all the scientific analysis was challenging but I managed to put something together with the help of graphic organizer. The most difficult part for me besides the research was making sure I included all the cited work properly and that the information was presented in the correct order. I struggled with the organization in my first draft, but on my final persuasive essay I reread the essay several times and then took a break from it and reread it again with fresh eyes. I was then able to reorder the information, so it made better sense and I also made sure I included solid topic sentences to each of my paragraphs. Adriana pointed out in several instances, “Either merge these and add a topic sentence, or move them elsewhere as support” so I made sure I reordered my information so the essay made more
