My whole life since I can remember I’ve always been told stories about how horrible of a life, my grandparents had as they grew up, and how much of a better life that I have had than they have had when they were born all the way up until they were eighteen years old. They both have overcome obstacles that I would never dream of going through; I am really blessed that my childhood has been so magnificent compared to theirs. Both my grandparents have had such a rough life that it does make my heart go out to them especially my grandmother. This makes me want to tell people about it because there are some people out there that have gone through what both of them have gone through and it makes me so proud to call them my grandparents because of …show more content…
At the age of eleven my grandmother began taking care of her brothers and sisters all on her own with no help at times all they would have to eat is bread. Eventually my great grandfather got a new wife and she was so rude and unkind to my grandmother and her siblings and she split them up and put them in different orphanages. While my grandmother and her siblings were separated in different orphanages they all were molested, and abused. When my grandmother was seventeen and my grandfather was eighteen they got married and raised all of my grandmother’s siblings together. Then my grandparents went through some hardships in their beginnings of their marriage they both became violent drunks and eventually they both became God loving people and they finally both got their lives together. One day my grandparents were dropping my mother and uncle off at a babysitters so they could go to a bar and on the way there they wrecked and almost lost their children and that scared my grandma into going to church. Then when my grandmother was in her forties, she began taking care of my great grandfather after he had a massive stroke and was paralyzed he then eventually died a couple months later. In 1994 my grandmother has …show more content…
We do have our little arguments, but they would give anything in the world for me and I’m proud that I have such loving and caring grandparents. They have watched me since I was born and They were upset when I moved three hours away, but they are glad I moved because even though I’m not close to them it feels like every time I come back that I never left because that love is always strong. The reason why I admire my grandmother is because of all the hardships she has went through in her life and that she is strict but that’s because nobody was around to push her and to tell her to do good. The reason why I admire my grandfather is because he has been through so much and even on his darkest days he finds some way to pick him up and smile, they both are my heroes and that will never change. My grandmother and grandfather are both my blessings they both care about my well-being and when I was depressed and in my darkest days they picked me up and told me not to let negative things affect me and they told me to think positive. I talked to my grandmother every day for a year straight because I was in such a horrible state of depression, she would pray with me on the phone keeping me calm because I was angry all the time. This whole state I was in was extremely scary, I was angry all the time; I would pick fights with people I was basically straying away from my beliefs and losing friends. My
Banned Debate: My Sister's Keeper My Sister’s Keeper details the life of Anna Fitzgerald and her family at the most difficult time of their lives. Anna was born so she could become a donor for her sister Kate, who had been diagnosed with Leukemia at a young age. The book has been banned because of the issue of genetically modified children, sexually explicit scenes, mention of drugs, and offensive language. For younger ages this book might be too much to understand but it shouldn’t be banned because it is telling the story that families go through every day.
I rushed out of the bedroom confused. I began to realize what was going on. I ran to where I last saw her and she was not there. Never before I felt my heart sank. My eyes filled with tears. I dropped to my knees and felt the cold white tile she last swept and mopped for my family. I look up and around seeing picture frames of of her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren smiling. I turn my head to the right and see the that little statue of the Virgin Mary, the last gift we gave her. I began to cry and walked to my mother hugging her. My father walked dreadfully inside the house. He had rushed my great grandmother to the hospital but time has not on his side. She had a bad heart and was not taking her medication. Later that morning, many people I have never seen before came by to pray. I wandered why this had to happen to her. So much grief and sadness came upon
It was August 8th of 2013 when my dad got a call from my Aunt Theresa. She urged him to come over to her house because she had devastating news. The car ride to her house was quiet. The weather was gloomy, the sky was filled with dark cumulus clouds. When we pulled up to my Aunt’s house, the adults were organized into a small circle. My uncles were supporting my grandma, however, I thought nothing of it. My parents had told me to go inside because they had a matter to attend to. I went inside to hang out with my cousins. I saw them a couple days before, but the feeling of happiness never subsides when I see them.
noticed that in a number of films the father is dead thus it is impossible to protect his children, such as in Cinderella. Also stepfathers seem to not be portrayed in pop culture as evil thus stepmothers are the only ones that receive such hideous flack. Because stepfathers are not portrayed in a negative way, when it comes to real life they have less difficultly finding their place in their new family. (Church 1994) (Hall and Bishop 2009)
"President Barack Obama unveiled a statue honoring Parks in the nation’s Capital building. He remembered Parks, according to The New York Times, by saying "In a single moment, with the simplest of gestures, she helped change America and change the world. . . . And today, she takes her rightful place among those who shaped this nation’s course."
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
Imagine dedicating your life to a university not only on the academic level, but also the athletic level. With a full scholarship your time is dedicated to getting to class on time, finishing assignments, and making it to mandatory practices while also maintaining a strict workout schedule. With your day pretty much full of responsibilities, you do not have the time for a job to pay for anything that you may need outside of tuition, books, and housing. If your car breaks down or you run out of gas you have to pay for that out of your own pocket which is fairly difficult when you do not have an income to cover the costs and if you accept money or free services from any businesses, you could lose you eligibility as a NCAA athlete and lose your
What does phenomenal mean to you? One dictionary states phenomenal means very remarkable. My great grandmother was a very sophisticated and remarkable woman. Phenomenal should have been her first name, because that she was. My great grandmother was a rare breed; many do not come like that anymore. Memories of my great grandmother take me to a happy place, and hold a special place in my heart.
This lady is the most wonderful person I 've ever met. She is old, affectionate, and intelligent. It took me eighteen years to realize how much this extraordinary person influenced my life. She 's the type of person who charms everyone with her stories and experiences. She always time for her family and friends. She is the kind of leader who does everything to keep her family together and in harmony. She is my grandmother.
According to Marilyn Stokstad and Michael W. Cothren in Art History some artists of the Hellenistic period portrayed the world as they saw it, by representing people from every level of society. (Stokstad and Cothren, 2014). An example is a sculpture which is referred to as “the old woman”, produced by an unknown artist. This sculpture is not from Greek myth but instead is a portrayal of an elderly woman of the era. The marble statue of an old woman was originated in the late second century BC and is a perfect depiction of daily life in ancient Greece due to the beauty of its intricate detail and the artists portrayal of a member of society.
They say grandparents, are the two most favorite people in the world to children. Grandparents are the main characters of your childhood, they are the ones that leave you with the most beautiful memories of your life. Some grandparent’s teach you a very valuable lesson of life, they teach you respect, hard work, family values, and unlimited love. They show you their love in many ways, they say I love you in words as well as actions. Grandparents are the ones that sometimes get you out of trouble and guide you to the correct path. They show you trust, a trust that cannot never be broken.
I have a lot of cousins; therefore I am not the only grandchild for my grandparents. However, I was the only one that was raised by my grandparents. They spent the most of their times on me compared to my other cousins. For example, I slept with my grandma when I was young. Because of my body was weak, and my hands and feet usually cool all night, my grandma always held my hands and feet to make my body warm. She was told me fairy-tales or real stories at night when I was sick, because she wanted me to feel better. When I was little girl, on the family trip, grandpa always carried me, because he didn’t want me to walk too long. Living without the parent, it made me sad but my grandparents given too much love on
Something that I really struggled with was the passing of my Grandmother. She was a strong woman and an inspiration to everybody in my family. I think that I struggled with it because she was a great human being, I kind of looked up to her a bit, and of course she was part of my family. I think that along with her passing, I struggled with the fact that she died when I thought that she did nothing wrong in her entire life and did not deserve to die. Mainly the fact that she was a really good person and she just died like that.
My grandmother has always been my biggest supporter throughout my life. My Grandmother is my back bone; she is the reason why I am the person that I am today. Most people hear the word grandmother and expect to see older lady with possible white hair, standing in the kitchen cooking and baking, evening sewing. My grandmother is the exact opposite of those things, she is still employed full time, enjoys making jewelry and furniture. Although she is only five two she is very witted and outspoken she never bites her tongue and will always give her opinion even if you don’t ask for it. There is a softer side to her, she will give you her last and be a listening ear day or night. Like the saying goes “to know me is to love me” and believe me
