Personality plays a pivotal role in helping individuals find job opportunities that suit them. However, some individuals struggle with finding the right career path and therefore, turn to the aid of personality tests. Personality tests alleviate this confusion by providing a series of questions to help categorize an individual’s personality into a four-letter type. With sixteen possible options, these personality types clarify the most likely successful areas for an individual career. Personally, I have been able to utilize personality tests as well as several programs to help identify a job I am particularly passionate to pursue. After receiving an undergraduate degree in Child Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Dallas, …show more content…
My outcome indicates that I express strong extrovert qualities, moderate expression, strong feeling, and moderate judgement. In the beginning, I did not truly understood the meaning of my personality test results. After further investigation, I learned that the ESFJ portrays “dependability, dedication, and commitment to providing for the needs of others (CareerTest, 2017) .” They enjoy caring for individuals as well as assuming leadership positions. I learned that the ESFJ relies strongly on feelings when making decisions. People with ESFJ personality type tend to struggle with balancing right and wrong decisions. However, they strongly lead with their hearts rather than their heads, which can sometimes lead them to make quick judgements rather than contemplating the circumstance (CareerTest, 2017)(Humanmetrics, 1971). I believe that the traits common with ESFJ are closely match my own. As an extrovert, I love meeting new people as well as spending large quantities of time with the people I love and I often feel most energized with large groups of people. My idea of sensing information comes from what I have learned from the external world. I am able to understand information …show more content…
I entered college as a business major because I felt that I could make an acceptable income postgraduate and I could force myself to find a area within business where I could succeed. However, the more I explored different business careers, the less I wanted to pursue one. I knew deep down that I had a strong connection to working with children and therefore, felt that I should look into careers that match my personality. I was very fortunate to find that my personality type fit strongly with counseling and education. ESFJ personalities excel in career paths that involve high social interaction with an opportunity to serve others. These career paths include positions such as social workers, educators, counselors, and even choreographers (O*Net, 2017). Currently, my is working as an elementary school teacher and eventually as an elementary school counselor. In order achieve success within these two fields, O*Net suggests the acquisition of certain skills. The education required to maintain an elementary teaching position includes an undergraduate and often recommends a master’s degree. The qualities of excellent teachers include basic skills such as “talking to others and using the best training or teaching strategies for learning new things,” social skills such as “teaching people how to do something and understanding people's reactions,” and people and
Having completed the Myers-Briggs Personality Test previously, I was identified as an INTP, which stands for introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. Accordingly, this personality is often labeled as “The Architect” or “The Logician.” Despite my previous results, I repeated the test as instructed in the assignment. Consequently, based on the outcome of the test, my personality has altered in the past year. Thus, my updated results based on this analysis were, INTJ (introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging). However, the two personalities are similar, as only one trait seems to have varied. Therefore, instead of holding a characteristic grounded in perception, it would appear that I am inclined to mannerisms that indicate
Have you ever wondered why you react to situations in the manner to you do? Whether you are calm and collect, or rigid and boisterous, the way you react to life is linked to your personality. Many different models exist to determine your personality type using answers from a series of questions or selecting between two opposing options. The most popularly used assessment is the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test, which is based off the foundation of C. G. Jung’s work on personality types. The typology in the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test yields results that determine if the person is introverted (I) or extraverted (E), sensing (S) or intuitive (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P). Each of these types corresponds
Individuals’ perceptions of their life/worth have the power to control the goals that they can carry out and meet. Every day we are learning new things and everyone has his/her own unique ways of learning. My strong desire to help students with their academic, personal, and social needs make me a strong candidate as a school counselor. While completing my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Program Administration I learned a great deal about myself. I have a passion for learning and want to share and express that love for learning with students. I feel that the Master of School Counseling program provides a direct path to my career goals of helping students to comprehend subject matter while learning to love learning as I do. Not only will
Understanding why people do what they do has baffled people for centuries. The Myers-Briggs Personality test has answer a few of these questions. Are you an Extrovert or an Introvert, Sensor or iNtuitive, a Thinker or a Feeler, a Judger or Perceiver? Once you have the tools to understand yourself, you are capable of understanding others. How does your personality complement a coworker, a family member? How can I be more understanding based on my knowledge of how a coworker comes to conclusions about life and their surroundings? Needs work
I cannot recall a more rewarding experience than helping facilitate a child’s education while enabling parent participation alike. These experiences have drawn me to my current position as an Educational Assistant where I am constantly interacting and establishing relationships with students, learning about their goals and aspirations. It is that same desire to empower our future students that has steered me towards a career as a school counselor. By enrolling in the Masters in counseling program, I aspire to develop methods and experience to become an effective, experienced, and adaptable school counselor that promotes self-awareness, allowing students to realize their full potential and impetus them towards a promising future. I want to learn skills that facilitate personal and career development, ensuring that our students grow accomplishing their goals and ambitions.
When I was nine, I started my very first job babysitting my neighbor’s three children. While this may not seem like a real job, by the time I was ten, the babysitting commitment increased to three days after school, most Friday nights and usually at least one weekend day. After school I watched six children ranging from 1-6 years old. Soon I was recruiting a friend to help me, for a cut of my pay, in order to take the kids to the park! While babysitting started my work for pay career, I have worked the last 34 years in different careers; child care, retail, waitressing, bartending, alternative medicine and biotechnology. Throughout my career a couple themes have consistently come through as feedback; hardworking, dedicated, outgoing and a team oriented person. I will do whatever the job takes and drive until completion. While I thought this was very admirable, I stopped focusing on professional development from the perspective of continuous education.
In the vast and detailed world of psychology, there are a variety of different tests you can participate in. For example, you can participate in aptitude, verbal or numerical reasoning, and psychometric tests. These tests assess on a variety of different situations such as: behaviors, abilities and intelligence. Personality tests, a common and favored test, measure things such as: behavioral style, opinions, motivators, personal values and career interests. Most often, people complain or disagree with the score of some areas on their personality test; however, there are no right or wrong answers. After completing this personality test and reviewing the results, I found that the overall scoring accurately described me in most areas. The Big Five Personality test scores in five different areas involving openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism.

Extroverted people are more socially oriented. ESFP personalities are also sensory based; remembering events as snapshots with a tendency to be pragmatic. (Martin, 1997) They are often in-tune with their feelings which can lead them to be empathetic and tactful communicators, but struggle with addressing conflict. According to The Myers and Briggs Foundation, their perceiving aspect can cause them to work in “bursts of energy”, bringing a playful aspect to work, but can cause them to be indecisive when it is most needed.
The Big Five personality factors are the modern way of describing someone’s feelings, actions, and traits. This new factor map, improving Hans and Sybil Eysenck’s two-dimensional map which consisted of a stable/unstable axis and an introverted/extroverted axis, has five different factors. They are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism and everyone can be described using these five criteria. This paper will discuss and interpret my results from a Big Five personality test including how accurate I believe it is and how this might change in the future.
Personality tests tell a person a lot about why a person is who they have become. I believe that these test if taken truthfully can identify deficiencies that individuals can work on to benefit not only themselves but others in the organizations that they work in. Some models state that it is in human nature and chemicals that decided how a person acts but I believe it is based on life experiences and a personality can change as long as a person knows the deficiencies and works to change them.
Derek, I too have worked in the financial industry for some time. My field took me into the brokerage field helping individuals understand the market or to help plan for their retirement. In this field, not only were we required to learn all the CPA and brokerage laws, but we were also required to learn all the banking laws that went in place with it. I absolutely agree that in this environment everything that leads to job dissatisfaction is obvious and ever growing. Even in my most recent position right now, we are heavily regulated and forced to do things that sometimes we aren’t even as comfortable doing all in the name of making money, but it culminates into this peaked pile of “low pay, increased worked loads, lack of promotions, and excessive stress on the job.” (Robbins, 2013)
Personality traits can be manifested as strengths or weaknesses depending on the situation, and personality tests can help individuals maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses within the organizational structure. Organizational behavior is critical to organizational effectiveness, and these tests can also point individuals toward certain careers or organizations that are good fits. Pearson Education’s MyManagementLab (2016) contains a series of personality tests and the following discussion analyzes the results of these tests as they apply to my personality and my career. The writing contains illustrations of my personality traits in action. The text also highlights areas of improvement that will enable me to be a better employee, co-worker,
The process and acknowledgement of understanding what career choices are important to one as a young adult may be challenging, overwhelming, and confusing most especially at the young adult stage. However, based on both theories of Super’s theory is that career process is continued growth for some, and Holland proposes that personalities are matched with occupations that fits one’s personality, which I concur. Moreover, the import ingredient of career is the requirement of self-understanding and the ability to apply self-knowledge to make the right decisions in choosing a
After you have finished studying, you are supposed to decide on a career trend and find a job as your main work. It is said that you need to identify your personality to find an appropriate career. Holland (1997) developed his system that helps people make occupational choices. Holland’s Hexagon includes six personality types: realistic, conventional, enterprising, social, artistic and investigative.
