Personal Statement on Eletrical Engineering

A few years ago, in a warm winter afternoon, a literature teacher was teaching William Blake’s poem in the classroom. “To see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower.” Reading the poem, a boy sitting beside the window was lost in his thoughts. “A world in a grain of sand? It means there are mountains, rivers and even cities in a grain of sand? Could we build such a world?” The imagination ended up with the teacher’s questions. "What can you see from the poem?" "I can see a tiny world made of sands." The laughter filled in the classroom as the sunshine and the tiny world dream deeply rooted in the boy's mind.

Time blur my memory of that winter afternoon but clear my dream of the tiny world. As a young adult, I entered the university and chose Electrical Engineering as my major. During my first year of college, I did not have the burning desire to be an engineer but enjoyed making pottery works by myself. One day, my counsellor stopped by my dormitory and saw my pottery. He asked me why I like making pottery. I told him my tiny world dream and show him the tiny pottery world I created. He smiled and said, "Let me show you the real tiny world." He took me to his lab and open a video. When I saw the quartz sands turns into shiny wafer and then the running micro motor, I told to myself, "That's it, that is what I really like." My counsellor told me, "If you work hard on your courses, you will definitely know how to make them." From then on, I diligently worked on my courses and my overall GPA was consistently among the top 5%. I received consecutive scholarships for excellent student in the University. But the most important thing for me is that I found the way to my tiny world.

After graduation, I worked in...

Meanwhile, I was actually aware of my limit knowledge. Because of the thirst for knowledge and my academic dream, I want to continue to pursue PhD in an ideal university.

MIT, famous for her high research reputation and contribution, is a dream place to start for the people filled with infinite passion for the future. I desperately want to come here; I want my dreams to come true. I firmly believe that my experience and specialized skills will help me successful in your research program.

There will be a lot of dreams in my life. These dreams guide me forward, like the tiny world dream did years ago. I will try to keep and follow those young dreams. Dreams never die.
