In my personal belief and through my experiences, the study of dentistry offers the opportunity to combine my aptitude and interests in scientific study with my ability and desire to communicate with people and make a positive difference in their lives. I wish to study this course due to my new-found respect for the career and to unite my caring nature for people with my deep interest in science, art and the human body. For me, dentistry is not just about teeth, it’s about those other qualities that make a successful dentist such as positive interaction, community interest and a meaningful interest in your patients.

This experience highlighted to me the various aspects of working in a dental surgery. I saw that dentists have an excellent connection with their patients and have brilliant collaboration with the staff they work with. These qualities were essential for success in efficient execution of treatments.
My interest in science and aspiration for a dental career is reflected in my Advanced Higher choices where independent study skills and ability to cope with pressure are essential. Biology and Chemistry have helped me further my interest and develop my analytical thinking. My previous studies of Math and English have given access to skills such as critical thinking which have been useful in the UKCAT as it allowed me to gain aptitude at tasks such as thinking and understanding. Also, my studying in Geography has enabled me to gain valuable analysis skills through the interpretation of texts into my assignment in Higher Geography which highlights my skill for interpretation.
