For the past couple of years, I have been carrying high expectations that has resulted in constant stress. I am carrying these two things because every day I strive to be the best that I can possibly be. However, I believe that sometimes I can be even better due to lower grades in school that resulted from either stupid mistakes or not paying attention to the assignment at hand. This drive to be better than my best and to reach the unreachable expectations that I have put on myself has resulted in large amounts of stress. Many people made the choice for me to carry these things. I made the choice to carry these things because I believe that getting good grades in school can lead to a promising future. I also believe that higher grades in high …show more content…
My parents are also making me carry high expectations. They too expect my very best, but they understand that one lower grade is not going to be the end of the world whereas I am the exact opposite. Even though my parents hold me to high expectations, they are willing to do whatever they can to help me in hard times. Soccer is another factor. Practicing three days a week and having games on the other two days during the school week limits the time I have to complete homework that is due. Having involvements in school athletics can make my homework load feel five times more than it actually is. This causes me to stay up really late and get little sleep for the next day. The average six hours of sleep I get each night makes me more and more drowsy the next day. My lack of sleep causes me to get very frustrated throughout the day, which causes me to create additional problems for myself. Despite the constant stress that I carry, I would never give up my high standards. They help shape me into the student I am today, and hopefully I can make more reasonable expectations which will cause me to truly be my best every
My parents have always pushed me to be better than they were. They knew that if I wanted to be successful I needed to go to college. In highschool, they always made me put my education before anything else. My parents didn’t go to college so they would always tell me to not make that mistake because their lives could have been easier if they would of just invested a few more years into their education. They would also tell me about all the opportunities that missed out on because they decided not to further their education.
College athletes have a lot of mandatory obligations and will do most anything to achieve the highest level of success in their respective sports as possible. However, these athletes are endangering their health by acquiring sleep debt by sleeping less than the required ten hours per night. This sleep deprivation can cause lack of concentration and decreased performance in these athletes, which commonly leads to injuries. By experts, trainers, and coaches informing these athletes of both the consequences of sleep deprivation on athletic performance and rate of injury, and the benefits on both academic and athletic performance of getting enough sleep, the sleep habits of college athletes can significantly change for the better. This would lead to healthier athletes, better students, and a happier college athlete population.
There is not a night where I don't wish I could throw in the towel studying and go to sleep early, or a morning where I don't think about how nice it would be to sleep past my alarm. But this is what being a college athlete is all about. When I signed up to be a college athlete I signed up for long days with never ending nights and early mornings. I signed up knowing that my sport and school would be my life. But I do this and am willing to be constantly exhausted because I get to do what I love and go to school. All this is doing is bettering myself anyways. Playing my sport helps me push myself in school and be the best that I can be. I willingly accept exhaustion because exhaustion means that I am pushing myself and getting better and better one step at a time (Carter,
1. At CoBA, we place great importance in values, initiative and professionalism. Describe one example of how you have demonstrated these qualities.
As a seventh grade student, I took a science course because it was required. At first I was scared about how well I would do and if I would get a good grade throughout the year. When the school year started, I met my teacher and he seemed really nice and he turned out to be an awesome teacher. I excelled in my science seven class and overthrew my fear of getting poor grades. My seventh grade year was the year I determined what I wanted to go to college for and that would be life science education. As I moved up the scale throughout high school I became a better student, a better athlete, and a better leader. I had the support of my family, my teachers and my friends. This helped me achieve the major goals I had set out for myself.
Response to Literature The article “Today’s Exhausted Superkids,” written by Frank Bruni, discusses the pressures and standards that are being placed on students and by students. Bruni recognizes that students fear falling behind in the competitive atmosphere they live in, causing them to choose a non-stop lifestyle; most often resulting in a lack of sleep. The author provides evidence from several different texts which also suggest that the pressure and lack of sleep has become too much for students. This growing problem has become serious enough that several students have committed suicide due to the pressure and inability to deal with failure.
There are many things that I hope to accomplish and do when I get older. I want to improve and accomplish different things for myself in my career that I choose, in my material goals, and spiritually. I'm looking at the year of 2009, I will be out of college and be on my feet, hopefully. I have high expectations for myself and hope to accomplish as many of my dreams and goals as I can throughout my life.
The pressure to meet high expectations, coupled with the fear of failure, can lead to heightened anxiety levels and, in severe cases, manifest as performance
However, some people would argue that parents of high-achieving students play a detrimental role in pressuring their children to achieve at unrealistically high levels or to satisfy the parents' needs. Parents of academically talented children have been accused of pushing their children to achieve at exceptional levels and sooner than usual. While there is empirical evidence that parent factors have a positive association with, or facilitate, children's achievement, there has also been great concern that parents'
When it comes to school, I have always been an “A” only student. I am slightly obsessed with my grades, and I have never had a “B” in my life. Originally, this pressure was put on by my parents, but now I am self-driven and I do not allow myself to have anything lower than an “A-”. Achieving no lower than an “A-” consists of lots of hard work and time management. Unlike many other students, I have always been one to complete my homework as soon as possible. Other students procrastinate and either don’t do their homework until late at night, or even the day
Wrap Up Writing Assignment As humans living in the modern world, we seek bigger and better life positions to affiliate with our lives. We are pressured by society to go to school for nine years, stress about college and our academic future for the last two of those years. And at our prime of adolescent years we are to spend years in college to get the appropriate education for our chosen career. Obviously many people choose alternative routes and take on different lifestyles depending on their lives choices.
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some
Homework should not lead to health problems. When a student has homework, they should plan ahead on how they are going to get it done. Athletics should not be a problem because at most schools coaches say academics before athletics so, if it comes down to it, students would be able to skip practice to get their homework done. Once the student manages his time to where he has a homework schedule, he will not be stressed. Thus, when a student is not having stress he will sleep better. Students need to manage their time for homework so it does not lead to health
Risk I think people should take risk because if you take risk you could end up in a good situation, Macbeth and people in history that take risk. Risks are a good chance to challenge yourself. So you should take them when you have the chance. If you take a risk you can end up in a good situation.
We were responsible for managing our homework and schedules. We were not nagged into studying, and did not rely on their reminders to do our work. This was not a burden for me, but a freedom. They encouraged us to put every effort we could into our work, but if we didn’t we were the ones who would bear the consequences. We were punished for never “encouraged” to do well with money or treats. My mother and father emphasized the personal responsibility and consequences of education, instead of using material items as incentives. Because I felt responsible for my education, I wanted to do the best possible. I knew my efforts in school reflected on me personally, and I wanted to do well. I knew that if I could not get A’s in my classes because of a difficulty understanding or learning material, or for other similar reasons, it was fine, but if I only did not get A’s because I did not put effort into my work, it was my fault, my responsibility, and my regret I had to deal with. This understanding and outlook has helped me to do well in school, and motivated me to be a determined, hardworking
