Near the end of my junior year, my peers and I were assigned a community action project that focuses on minimizing an issue that society faces. After given the instructions, I immediately thought of my own issues of stress and sought to help others not feel alone as I do. I decided to hold a support group during lunch and after school to discuss the issues students faced, and possible ways to cope with their problems. Every student was welcomed to participate, but only five people showed up. From there, I began to hand out homemade stress balls with the intentions to encourage students to attend and possibly entertain them in their time of despair. Five people quickly grew to twenty and hundreds of students were demanding these handmade stress
balls. The positive feedback that I have received from my project reflects the accomplishment of my goal to decrease the stress students, like myself, were experiencing. From this experience, I learned that many concealed their true emotions with the idea that they are alone or resorted to self harm to heal their mental wounds. By providing students a sanctuary to freely express their emotions and possible solutions to their issues, I, along with the help of those who participated, decimated the use of self harm as a coping mechanism for several individuals and established a sense of community among students who did not even know each other. This project became more of a lifelong goal to help others eliminate factors that would make them want to give up in life completely. Having the opportunity to help students tackle their issues in a more responsible manner was more rewarding than the grade I got on the project. With flour and a few balloons, I was able to help over 300 students, including myself, decrease the stress that we face from school and our social lives which will hopefully help prepare us for what we may encounter in the future.
After taking this class, it would be impossible to see things, specially people or myself, the same way. Whether or not the intention of the class is to provide self-improvement information, it would be impossible for the student to ignore the issues, disorders, etc., identified throughout this fast-paced plethora of information. Of course what the student decides to retains is obviously subjective; which lead us to the application of the stress and health profiles. After the completion of the scales provided, and the grading associated, it would be hard not to realize how we can better our lives, if we make minor adjustments in our way of life. I for one, personalized a large part of this information, something I probably would not have been able to do, at least at the same level, back when I was a young adult.
While the public is aware of some of the basic effects that stress can have through educational and medical exposure, but there is still plenty of information that the general population is missing. Part of the reasoning for why the general population may not have wide spread knowledge concerning stress and its fatal effects is the lack of attention stress is given in educational and medical settings, medical professionals for many people across the world don’t educate and check their patients on the stress they may be experiencing, schools also do a poor job of educating their students on the topic of stress and essentially ignore students who may be undergoing tremendous amounts of stress from school, extracurricular activities within or outside of school, issues at home or with friends, etc. Another issue concerning the lack of knowledge about stress among the general population is the idea that communicating about stress with family, friends, health professionals is

Conquering the Enemy Christopher Reeve, the actor who played the iconic comic book superhero, Superman, on film, once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Mr. Reeve had an excellent point that is relevant to any human being, especially us students who are marching on to the bigger challenges that life has to offer to us, whether it be through school, work, or even life in general. Stress is a common factor in all of our daily lives. Learning to manage stress can be life changing and be very useful in both our personal and work environments. Stress can be caused by many different situations, such as family problems, work problems, finances, deadlines, information overload, unhealthy eating, lack of exercise, public speaking, trust issues, friendships, and so on. Stress is defined as, “an adaptive response, mediated by individual characteristics and/or psychological processes, that is a consequence of any external action, situation, or event that places special physical and/or psychological demands upon a person” (Kreitner and Kinicki, p.551). Stress triggers are different for different people. Although we would like to avoid stress, it is impossible. We need stress in our lives in order to stay alive and help us make quick decisions in life or death situations. Stress can actually be a good thing such as eustress, stress that is good or produces a positive outcome. When a person experiences stress it causes one of two reactions, fight or flight, which allows us to make the decision to either accept the situation or run away. According to Kreitner and Kinicki , “Physiologically, this stress response is a biochemical “passing gear” involving hormonal changes that mobilize the body for extraordinary demands” ( p.550). The main point is we cannot avoid stress; stress is good for us to a certain extent. Our efforts need to be aimed at managing stress and learning to live with and embrace it.
My direct psychological effect is my dogs who are continuously yelping because they don’t like being there cage/doghouse, the result of all of that is it directly affects me mentally and physically because I have to ensure their safety is ok at all times, but know what I put myself through I have to suck it up and get it done.
The purpose of this paper is for me to explore the ways I cope and deal with stressors in my life. I will be using multiple assessments such as a “Life Behavior Assessment” which helps me identify the healthy and unhealthy ways I cope when I am stress. I will also be using the “Self-care assessments” where I will assist multiple self-care areas in my life. After completing the “Self-care assessments worksheet” I will use the “My Maintenance Self-Care Worksheet” to go in depth about my current self care practices in the different areas and new practices that I can start doing.
Stress is something that everyone has to deal with in life, whether it is good or bad stress. Stress management techniques are a great way to deal with stress. Some of the stress management techniques that I learned from this course are prioritization, scheduling, and execution. Using these techniques has effectively helped me deal with my own stress. When it comes to dealing with stress I still have many strengths and weaknesses that I will explain. Some stressors I have in my life that I will discuss are psychointrapersonal, social, life events, and daily hassles. Next, I will give my opinion on my post-course survey, and compare and contrast it to my pre-course survey scores. Finally, I will explain my last goals for this stress management course.

The hassles, deadlines and frustrations have made stress so common that it has become a way of life for people. Life is full of challenges, and a life without it is not only impossible but is also undesirable.
Stress comes in many shapes and forms, it comes with the job of being human. My sources of stress come from the major parts of my life; academic pressure, social settings, and time management. As a high school student, high school in general is very stressful, but not only am I high school student I am also a college student. Double the responsibility means double the stress.

As each new semester begins, many college students found themselves still stuck in their relaxing mindset of break time. Their mentalities were not ready to shift to a ready mode for the upcoming semester of school work. However, as the semester unfolded and speeded up toward their first mid-term or finals, college students found themselves more stress because they have no way to cope with the increasing amount of work they must complete. For this reason, college students would not be able to put all their mind and effort into completing the required task. As a result, it forced them to lose interest in the class subject that they are studying and made them want to finish the task as fast as possible, disregarding the quality of the work they submitted.
