In work experience with a general practitioner I learnt how diverse the role of a dentist can be, communication being key to every treatment. I have also benefitted from studying gcse art where such things as intricate drawing skills are required which where implied during my work experience. I have also worked with the nhs dental health centre where I actually got a chance to shadow the dentist for a week. In addition to being able to compare how the two different local dental practices work, I have observed

All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
My ambition for studying a degree for dental hygiene propagated during my research about it. I am very much aware of the importance of the hygienist's role in maintaining the patient's health as I have already experienced it during work experience in a dental surgery. I enjoy helping patients and I am able to communicate with different types of people. I can handle difficult situations in a small period of time without hesitation. I read scientific journals and enjoy researching about science and learning about the human body to develop my knowledge. I am currently studying BTEC level 3 sciences at St Albans Academy. I also achieved a gold Duke Of Edinburgh award and demonstrated effective leadership skills during my expeditions and practises. I The role of a dental hygienist comes with a big responsibility
I plan to use my education to teach the patients about the importance of oral health and what can be done by them to improve their daily brushing habits. Also, I can go on mission trips with other doctors to help patients in need like in Africa, military. I recently signed up to volunteer at okmom program that is going to held in February 2017. It is a two-day event providing free dental clinical treatment to patients that cannot afford insurance or dental services. I am planning to help as assistant and translator at this event.
To be honest my initial inspiration to take the dental therapy and hygienist course was from my mother, who would say ‘If more people had healthy teeth, more people would smile’.For me this statement was a turning point ,as it lead me to wondering that maybe the lack of clean and healthy teeth , is actually the prime reason to why many of us today do not smile enough , causing less unity between the people in our society. Hence from my research into the dental world, I settled on this course as it gives an opportunity for me to not only learn how to provide an assistance to the dentists trying to spread clean teeth ,but also get a chance to help and encourage younger, elder and those with disabilities to carry out the dental treatments, so
The career I have chosen for my future is to become a registered dental hygienist. It wasn’t until I actually learned what dental hygienists do that influenced my interest from medical to dentistry. The first honest reason I was gravitated to dental hygiene was because of the salary. I didn’t really know what Dental Hygienist actually did until I did some research.
I have undertaken work experience at a local NHS practice to observe what the profession entails. The difficulty of the job was admirable due to the level of manual dexterity and patience involved. In addition, I saw the importance of compassion that dentists showed to their patients
My interest in the dental industry happen by total happenstance. As a successful cosmetologist, I wasn 't planning on being in this industry nor did I have any interest dentistry initially. By someone 's advice I decided to take a chance on it. Upon my visit to a ten week dental assisting program, I met with an admissions counselor. She, also a cosmetologist, mentioned that she noticed a lot cosmetologists transitioning over into dentistry. That sparked an interest in me to look into other more reputable schools. I thought about the two industries and how much they have in common. Things like dentistry being very skill-based and having an aspect of art. There is definitely a certain level of hand skills that you have to have, as well as working
In my experiences, I have found pinpointing a career and channeling my aspirations extremely difficult tasks. That being said, like most difficult endeavors in life, there exists extraordinary reward. Through research, soul searching, and trial and error, I realize that I aspire to make an impact in as many people’s lives as possible, while still taking care of myself and my future family. That is where dentistry comes in to play.
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was

This career will not only let me teach good habits for good health. But will also let me educate patients, as well as the general public, on how to achieve oral health and to prevent diseases. In fact in the dentistry career I will be able to perform an important service for everyone to help them to maintain their teeth appearance good.

I feel that my love for arts, such as painting, sketching, sewing, and playing the piano will help to make me a great dentist, as these hobbies have helped to perfect my fine motor skills. Additionally, my love for the sciences led me to join a research project where I studied the teeth of mice infected with periodontal disease. I found it inspiring to be able to concentrate on an area of academia – oral health – that is of interest to me. This research project also motivated me even more to pursue dentistry in order to help treat such a common oral health ailment such as periodontal disease. Having a relationship with patients, utilizing my creativity, and providing care to others are irrefutable goals I look to achieve in my vocation. Dentistry certainly gives me the opportunity to fulfill all of
My interest in Dentistry began when I visited the Charles Clifford Dentistry School at Sheffield University; using apparatus provided in the university gave me an insight into the processes a dentist would carry out. I particularly enjoyed the experience due to the practicality of it, as it is a very hands-on job. Completing Sheffield University’s “Discovering Dentistry” course has reaffirmed that Dentistry is a career in which I will flourish and I am looking forward to beginning my work placement in a dental clinic in the coming months. Reading about the “father of modern dentistry” Pierre Fauchard and his advancement in dental prosthetics and his study into the anatomy of teeth has really captured my imagination. I was especially drawn into how he created dental equipment such as dental forceps that are still being used in the present day with very minimal changes.
