My desire to go to dental school began to develop in my mid-teens while working at Plainview Oral and Maxillofacial Associates(Plainview Oral). Not only was I fortunate enough to obtain a position there as a young teenager, but since starting over six years ago, I have been mentored by Dr. Bass, a recognized oral surgeon. Under his guidance, I developed a strong appreciation for the skills required to be a successful dentist, as well as the caring and patience needed to gain a patient’s trust.
What started out as a summer position, eventually evolved into year round employment as my interests heightened and their appreciation of my work and dedication grew. My strong work ethic only increased as I began to understand the vital role of dentistry, including the diagnosis of teeth and tissue problems, prevention of disease and a plan of action to avert any future

Consequently, I came over and introduced myself. We started talking and after a few minutes, I was able to help alleviate her fears. She mentioned how oblivious she was towards her own dental care. We discussed the advancement and the exponential growth in the field of dentistry and dental hygiene over the past decade. When she inquired why I desire to have a career in dentistry, I told her a story of how I started working as an assistant and was fortunate to have Dr. Bass as my mentor. Dr. Bass would always take the time to explain the surgeries and his techniques by usually starting with a discussion of how x-rays are used to locate the cause of the pain or discomfort. During the surgery, he would go step by step, explaining his surgical methods. Although tooth decay, and the different techniques to extract a tooth may be offensive to some, I find the steps to take care of them intriguing. He made me realize how much I love working with patients and how happy I would be to pursue a career as a

Out of all the careers in the world, a dental hygienist probably has one of the most interesting and flexible jobs. Not only is this career interesting and flexible, but it is also very helpful towards others and usually pays pretty well too. Many people become dental hygienists because of the easy education requirements and high demand for their jobs. These days, dental hygienists are more respected and being hired more rapidly due to the fact that more and more people are keeping and taking better care of their teeth. They also say that at the end of the day they feel accomplished in knowing that they helped improved their patient’s health, even if only in the slightest way (“Interview with a Professional”).
Milder had terminal cancer. I was immediately distraught, wondering how Dr. Milder could operate his practice despite knowing his diagnosis. I gradually realized that it was Dr. Milder's commitment to the practice of dentistry that empowered him to serve others in the face of overwhelming personal adversity. Inspired by Dr. Milder’s optimism and persistence, I started participating in the San Diego County Dental Society initiatives he introduced me to, where I discovered how dentists came together to treat homeless veterans, raise funds for educational programs, and deliver oral hygiene supplies to underserved neighborhoods. I now aspire to follow in these proactive dentists’ footsteps and extend my reach beyond private practice by caring for individuals without adequate resources, promoting public knowledge of oral health, and mentoring future dentists. Although Dr. Milder will not watch my career develop, furthering his chain of compassion as a leader in the dental community will honor his legacy and produce a lifetime of fulfillment and

Ever since I was a little kid, I have loved going to the dentist. I was never scared, not even when I went for my fillings and wisdom teeth extractions. Mostly all the hygienist I have had so far have been friendly, patient and always ready to help with a big smile on their face and that is what attracted me towards this career. I want to help people in need that cannot afford the services.
After being lost, puzzled, and indecisive for a while now about which health-related career I desire the most, I finally made up my mind and selected a major. I decided to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science after accomplishing an Associate’s Degree in Science, which is an open field filled with opportunities for several health professions. I realized that a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science is the way to go as it enables me to switch back and forth between all of the health occupations that I worship. Down the road, I can even further my education and specialize in a specific domain that I am willing to commit to. In general, Health Science is a major where professionals undergo several tasks such as improving their community’s health and overall wellbeing, get involved in nutrition related conditions, use epidemiological techniques, counteract various infections, and enrich physical and daily health routines.
After the treatment and procedure is complete, patients leave with healthier, more beautiful teeth, giving them the confidence to ask someone out on a date or the confidence to smile on an important job interview. Dentistry is and has been for centuries, an important aspect of people’s ...
When I was a child, I looked at a mirror one day, and I was amazed by the fact that I was aware of my eyes looking at my face. It was a moment of epiphany for me that I was conscious of my senses working properly.
I can remember being a little boy sitting at the piano in church, listening to the preacher talk of how Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, which symbolizes the idea that we are here to serve. That message profoundly resonated with me throughout life. It was not until I began accompanying my grandmother to her multiple dental visits that I was able to see how I could put this calling of service into action. I saw firsthand the significant positive impact my grandmother’s dentist was able to make in her life, which encouraged me to want to learn about the field of dentistry. I then started researching dental health and learning of the importance of oral healthcare and how it affects the entire body. I then began to learn of how patient access to proper dental care was limited because of several factors such as, financial barriers, transportation, and dental fear, especially in the underserved minority communities. Given the shortage of black dentists, I realized I could make a positive difference by being an inspiration to those in the community, as well as serve in a professional career that would provide needed healthcare to the community. This is when I began to develop such a strong passion for

It is 8:40 p.m. of Tuesday night and I'm leaving the King Fahd General hospital driving home with John Mayer melodies bringing peaceful and relaxing vibes into the car compartments.
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
Although I was excited by having hands-on experience and using the latest technology to assist dental students, the succeeding events gave me greater insight about the true manifestation of dental practice. Since the nature of this clinic is to provide free dental care to Atlanta 's neediest patients, I confronted situations that I had never experienced before: an elderly lady who had to travel miles on foot to the clinic; a young man unable to purchase post-surgery medicine, or a young mother who simply was not able to afford any treatment. Observing such bitter circumstances professed me the mission of a dentist: to be selfless and go beyond the limits to bring back smiles. The benevolence of BMDC staff has been a great source of inspiration to me, one which I aspire to follow in the
