There we were involved in research work to test the influence and use of different type of Geo-synthetic materials in soil and tested the properties of soil by conducting various tests like Compaction Test , Triaxial shear strength test , oven dry test under the mentorship of Manish Gupta (S.R.O) and Dr. R. Chitra (C.R.O). The knowledge gained through academics and experience in trainings came to an use when I started working for Arora Associates Pvt. Ltd., as a Structural Engineer where I took up buildings as my field work for 9 months , during which I was involved in designing villas and multi-storey residential buildings in Delhi NCR. Then I got an opportunity to work as Structural Design Engineer for DDF Consultants Pvt. Ltd. , New Delhi where I worked on various projects comprising of design of multi-storey buildings, commercial buildings , colleges , hospitals , universities , industrial buildings and steel structures for government departments of Patna , Dehradun , Amritsar & RITES Ltd. During those 2 years I worked on some notable projects like Indra Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences , Patna and Bihar Agricultural University, Patna which was showcased to Vice president of India Mr. Mohammed Hamid Ansari & inaugurated by CM of Bihar Mr. Nitish
Sandro A. Carrasco is a Pratt alumnus. He graduated in 2012, with a Bachelors of Architecture degree. He is currently the associate project manager for Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), at their Madison Avenue, New York, New York office. I am inspired by the many positions Sandro held, during his tenure at Turner Construction Company. A company, I intend to work for upon graduation. Therefore, I wanted to learn about the transition process. I was also curious to learn more about Sandro and his experiences. Therefore, this desire to establish a mentorship with Sandro motivated my decision to interview him; for the betterment of my career, in the future.

There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. Whether it be the coffee machine in the morning or the roads and highways we travel, or even the cars we travel in, it was all an idea that started with an engineer. Someone engineered each idea to make it the best solution to a problem. Even though engineer’s goals are similar, there are many different things that engineers do within their selected field of engineering. I maintained a good academic profile during my undergraduate study, ranking among the top 6% of my graduating class. During my undergraduate study, it was the field of Transportation Engineering that caught my special interest and ever since I have strived to achieve my dream of becoming a Transportation Engineer. My interest for Transportation Engineering was sparked by courses such as Transportation Engineering and Highway Engineering in my third year. These courses introduced me to the fundamentals of traffic engineering and geometric design of roads respectively. As part of the course requirements, we undertook a mini project where we carried out traffic survey and subsequently undertook traffic analysis for a major road in Kumasi, Ghana. We also carried out parking studies and analysis, and presented our results to a panel of Lecturers. Subsequently, I majored in Transportation Engineering in my final year. To augment the theoretical knowledge gained in class, I interned at Ussuya Construction Limited (construction of spintex road 4.0km) during my long vacation, where I gained knowledge in surveying, supervision of road works amongst other
The civil engineering field is about gathering and interpreting data, being able to give technical presentations to colleagues, team work to design and build a project, projects range from the design and construction of dams, bridges, buildings, roads, and water supply systems. In most cases the works of engineers are admired and sought after. Engineers play an important role in the development and improvement of a society. Yet, like other technical and non-engineering careers the civil engineers also face issues, for example, regarding ethics, high energy building consumption, increased soil and coastal erosion, inadequate water quality, traffic congestion, and some poor infrastructures resilience to disasters. Another example is that unfortunately in the United Kingdom, the civil engineering industry is highly fragmented with 93% of companies having 14 or fewer employees which is not always a great idea, as written by John Miles in Civil Engineering Informatics. There is also a need to implement new professional and educational approaches to new challenges and new implications that are needed for the twenty-first century society. This paper will introduce and explain five different issues that civil engineers are currently facing and elaborate about how these challenges interrelate to each other.
A versatile individual and an ardent learner in all my chosen fields is how I perceive myself today. My childhood provided me a strong base of integrity and honesty upon which I have built a diverse skill set and a strong commitment to success. I opted for civil engineering as my undergraduate major at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, where my knowledge was enhanced by studying courses on Transportation Engineering and thus my liking for this field become much stronger. During second year of under graduation I went for training in Public Works Department, where I had a practical experience about pavement design and construction.
I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Materials Science and Engineering has allowed me to explore both materials and other fields within engineering, contributing to my strong interest in combining my study of Materials Science and Engineering with Mechanical Engineering. Today's problems are more complex and the needs of current and future societies have created challenges for engineering unparalleled in our history. The use of electronic data collection methods and the application of computers has revolutionized the practice of Civil Engineering. To interpret and satisfy these needs, Civil Engineers currently direct the spending of more than one tenth of Canada's gross national product, more than any other professional group. The Civil Engineer must deal with the human impact of engineering. Social, moral and legal issues concern us to a far greater degree than ever before.
Why do I want to be a civil engineer? Well, I am mainly interested in becoming a civil engineer for two reasons. My first reason is that I want to see something I designed on paper become real. I have always thought that was the coolest thing about engineers: they can design things like skyscrapers on paper, and then have them built because they are free of all errors. My second reason is just me wanting to have a career and not just a regular job at a factory, where there is always the chance of jobs being offshored or done by machines instead of people.
