Leader’s values can influence leadership styles, and this can create a domino effect which could build a successful organization or completely destroy the organization . The basic values which identify me as a leader are responsibility, ambitious and capability. Responsibility is an common trade share by successful leaders. Responsibility relays with the individual; therefore, an leader should take responsibility of everything he does, he must be aware that he is responsible for the succed or failure of the organization. I choose responsibility because after reflecting back on my career, I came to realize that being responsible play a big role in my line of work. People’s life depends on me, as a Soldier and Law Enforcement Officer; this value I do my best to focus my ambition in improving the organization and subordinates, leaders needs to be aware that ambitious individuals could be seen in society either in a negative or positive way. They could be perceived in a negative way because these individuals are goal oriented and sometimes, they don’t care about the welfare of subordinates or anyone else, they are willing to sacrifice friends, family and even themselves in order to accomplish their goals. This Type of behavior could harm the relationship between families, friends and members of the organization; therefore, this type of behavior needs to be monitored closely in order to avoid future issues. The positive side is they know exactly what they want and they work hard to accomplish the goal. Ambitious Leaders must learn the difference between positive and negative ambition in order to avoid following the wrong path and sacrificing too much or damaging the organization, in order to achieve their goals. Ambitious leaders must remember that in order to accomplish goals effectively, you will need the assistance of others. Ambitious leaders with negative tendencies could be affected in their interpersonal area due to this type of behavior, because most people tend to avoid coming in contact with ambitious leaders because they don’t want to be utilized to accomplish tasks that are only beneficial for the ambitious leader. Leaders with a Negative ambitious behavior also could be hazardous for the organization and society, these leaders will contaminate others with their negative behavior; however, we must remember that ambitious is good as long as implemented to improve the organization and
Any goal in life is achieved through ambition, fueled by determination, desire and hard work. Ambition maybe a driving force to success or to a pit of failure, the path chosen by an individual determines the end. Remember that any goal to be fulfilled needs desire, desire that strives to do good or greedy desire that is selfish. Also the actions that contribute to our ‘hard work’ need to be morally and ethically right to enjoy the sweet success. However, when the desire and determination is stronger than conscience, many tend to fail often reach or don’t reach what they strived for, leaving them emotionally or even physically dead. The inner lying consequence of ambition is clearly stated by Napoleon, he quotes “Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principals which direct them”. The undesirable consequence of ambition can be observed in the lives of the protagonists of ‘The Great Gatsby and Macbeth. This describes the direction in which ambition is driven could change the end result, it is simply based on the individual itself rather than the dream they seek to achieve. Therefore, the strong drive of ambition helps the seeker attain their goal but greedy desires and wrong paths taken eventually lead to downfall.
...rn day society, illusive ambitions can be incredibly detrimental, just as they are demonstrated to be in Macbeth. Ambitions, if they are untamed, can be an impediment to free will; they can overpower your good conscience, possibly leading you into causing death and destruction. They can also corrupt one’s mental health, while practically morphing that person’s perception of reality into something demonstrably wrong and twisted. Finally, they can boost ones ego to a point where that person is engulfed and imprisoned in the vehemence of their own denial, which can ultimately bear fatal consequences. If one’s hopes and desires are innately destructive, then it logically follows that that one’s ambition is also innately destructive; be wary of one with an immense ambition.
Everyone has a different definition of what makes someone a leader. My definition is not a statement of requirements, but more so a list of characteristics. I believe it takes a strong, independent, dependable, open-minded, thoughtful, selfless, smart and creative, someone who can work well with others, able to work under pressure, respectful, and experienced individual to be a leader. I believe it is someone who knows who they are and know their morals, someone who has already found who they are in life and accepts who they are, making what I believe the most important characteristic is, is someone who knows and sticks with their personal values. If someone cannot respect values and stick to their word, then how can they be a leader of others? A leader takes a lot of work, but if you are good at it, it may seem like nothing. Some people are leaders and do not even know it, like role models. When little kids look up to certain people that have impacted their lives in a way, they will see those people as role models. Truth is, leaders are everywhere and not everyone knows or can see that. It's not always the person who stands out for taking control or being bossy, but the one with the characteristics and high values that do the right things, even when no one is watching.
... should always lead them in the correct direction, so that later on in life there are not regrets. The actions will make him/her feel successful or unsuccessful. Victor Frankenstein said after reaching his ambition, "but now that I have finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my hear"(Shelley,233). This is exactly the way a person will feel if inappropriate actions are taken. The ambition people have should always have positive results.
Everything in leadership will be determined by the competency of the leader. John C Maxwell is credited with saying “everything rises and falls on leadership. The leaders are often the ones making the decisions influencing success or failure. When I think of competency, I believe it is important to acknowledge the difference between competency and confidence. Confidence is the belief that I can lead; competence requires results of successful leadership. Confidence is the place people get the idea a person is a “good guy.” Being a good guy or even being confident is not a qualification of competency; it merely means one has the right to have dinner. Being a good guy allows
Ambition can be a positive thing or a negative thing. It is a positive thing when it helps you reach a certain goal and strive for something that is good. It is a negative thing when you let it take over, and you lose track of your original goal, and forget about your morals and about everyone around you. The only thing you care about is what you want, and you will do anything in your power to get it. This happens frequently in our world.
By my courageous nature, I can give hope to my followers in any case and give them aspirations in wait for a better future. Tough times can also be faced with much resilience (Rath & Conchie, 2008). I can direct people towards achieving goals for the organization as well as personal goals. By providing stability team cohesion is improved towards the generation of better results. By this, I can influence the employees towards having a strategic mindset and focusing on the work as well as creating a peaceful work
The qualities that make a good leader are as varied as the people that fill leadership roles. Some leaders aren’t overly dynamic but somehow get the best out of people while others appear to be too carefree to take seriously. What is it then that makes leaders who they are? A personal philosophy of leadership is that distinguishing trait that every leader possesses. What those leadership characteristics and behaviors are will be explored in the following text, along with what I believe is the best route for me to follow as I work on developing my own personal philosophy of leadership.
The leadership is a privilege and it is such a privilege and an honor which will carry the tremendous responsibility which will inspire others to direct them to accomplish goals and vision of the organization. Leadership is about influencing the people, by producing direction, purpose and motivating in order to accomplish the mission, vision and improving the organization. The leadership philosophy is evolved based on the experiences, both positive and negative, in most of the initiatives and activities that we undertake. It is also one among the collaboration and teamwork within which the team members can utilize each other’s strengths to counter the weaknesses of the individuals. By observing, introspecting and experimenting we can developed a leadership paradigm which is inclusive, collaborative and proactive. We can develop the ability to recognize which will approach in order to reach the productive conclusion. The great leaders know their limitations and are capable at utilize their strengths and also the strengths of others to compensate.
According to the “trait theories of leadership” in the textbook, six traits have been identified as being consistently associated with leadership: 1) ambition and energy; 2) the desire to lead; 3) honesty and integrity; 4) self-confidence; ...
Leadership constantly presents challenges to the leader’s abilities. Changes occur in the organization environment, disrupting the equilibrium. The approach a leader uses to handle and manage challenges effectively, greatly determine the success of the organization (Hall and Hord, 2006). In the modern-day organizations, challenges come in the form of people and obstacles that prevent the organization from reaching its goals. Moreover, there are a lot of complexity and unpredictability. New set of skills is required for the organization to stay competitive and achieve the set goals. Hence, the life of a modern-day leader is more demanding than ever (Kouzes and Posner, 2006).
The literature generally suggests that effective leaders express their needs and motives in ways that benefit the organization. These needs or motives, are considered to be; tenacity, power, drive and work ethic (DuBrin et al. 2006). The power motive is significant, as it plays a major role in the relations taking place within the organization. Power over others is an inevitable part of leadership, but it also carries with it the risks associated with the misuse or abuse of power (Wikipedia, 2008).
...s being responsible for my world visions, I am responsible for my supporters as a leader. In order to lead successfully, one must have a strong group of supporters. The supporters will all believe in the goals of the leader. When leading, you are responsible for making sure the group is moving in the right direction to meet its goals. Your supporters will trust you to make proper decisions in the path forward. Knowing your power to radically change the world is a great responsibility, which at times can be almost frightening. In the end, though, it comes back to trust; trust of oneself and of others.
Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. At this moment in my young personal leadership journey, I get my first glimpse of a leadership style, “shut up and listen.”
The thought of that the way leadership is being made based on characteristics is called, “Trait theory of leadership”. The leader as a person needs to be creative, original, and inspired behind the movement of the company. By doing this it can further help the leader as a person have new ideas and create more contributions to the organization the leader is in charge of and while having these characteristics they should be able to be organized, dependable, and be an achiever. Their personality should also be talkative, very social, and outgoing; this will help them move forward the most. Finally, another point that helps me from my definition of a leader is most of all a leader needs to be trustful, tolerant, kind and this will help them be a great person to get along with. Without trust in the leader nobody will follow someone who cannot be trusted because the leader will look as if they will not accomplish
