Recommended: Importance of freedom
Freedom is “the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint.” To have freedom is to have to right to do whatever you want to, basically. The most prominent example of freedom would be the freedom of the citizens in their country. In the United States, we practice our freedom everyday with our freedom of religion, speech, and press. Freedom has allowed the citizens of the United States luxuries that a large portion of the world does not have. Because of this freedom, we are allowed independence, which requires us to take personal responsibility for our actions. Many people want freedom, but because of independence, don't want to take personal responsibility for their actions. An example of this “freedom-without-responsibility” idea is the american politics. In America, we have the right to choose our own president through democracy. The american people get to vote on whichever candidate that we like. The votes are tallied and whomever the most voted-for candidate is gets to be the president. This seems like a great example of the american people exercising their freedom through a fair, polite system of voting, but that is not always the case. In America, not all of the citizens are required to vote. For example, in the …show more content…
Here we are in America, a country build on the ideals that everyone has the right to be free and vote for their leader, and almost half of Americans don't vote? That like taking everything that every american soldier has fought to protect and flushing it down the toilet! What is even more intriguing is that 62% of the american people said that they have “always not supported Barack Obama and his policies.” If 100% of the american people had voted on that November day in 2012, President Obama would not have been elected and then 62% of americans would be more accepting of our president. Talk about not taking personal responsibility of your actions because of
According to Dictionary.com freedom means “the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.” Freedom. What does freedom mean to you? Even though freedom means the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, I believe that freedom means being able to accomplish what you desire and when you desire it without anyone saying anything, by reason of the comparison and contrast of our society and the society in the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, the negation of the word freedom, and synonyms of the word freedom. I believe that you should accept the consequences of the actions you take when you have your “freedom” as well.
What is freedom? Many people define freedom as a natural right, the human is born with. I believe, we can be free only if we respect others rights to be free too. Freedom is an innate right which humans have since their birth. However, different people have different opinions and definitions of freedom.
God has given us as human beings free will. Although if we make choices based on our own free will we must be willing to take the responsibility for the effects that our decisions have on ourselves, on the people around us, and on society itself. Freedom, I believe, is the way in which people live or behave without others annoying or interfering in his or her affairs. People should benefit from freedom, equality and justice. Absolute freedom is sometimes very dangerous and may destroy the basic principles of the society. A lot of people believe that freedom means doing whatever you want, whenever you want.
In America, voting for the President is a privilege and a lie. Many Americans think when they go to the polls in November, they are voting for the President of the United States; but really, they are voting for a group of electors who have pledged to support a nominee for the President. The Founding Fathers were concerned that presidents would always come from a populous state and wondered whether the public would have the knowledge of various candidates necessary to make a wise selection. They did not have access to technology like the internet or smart phones as we do. In most states, as the result of the election, the state awards all its electors to the winning candidate (Belenky 1308). A Presidential a candidate must win 270 Electoral
Some Americans might believe that being able to vote and participate in presidential elections is one of the truest forms of democracy, but this is not the case. Not only are elections non-democratic, but also America itself is not a democracy. The truth is, some Americans dislike the way our political system functions
In conclusion, freedom is having power to inflict a positive change on the world. The ability to be yourself and not change for anyone. The right to choose who rules and who doesn’t rule. Having a chance to get out there and show the world what your all about and who you really are. These are all definitions of freedom and what it truly means to be
Freedom is not a reward or a decoration that is celebrated with champagne...Oh no! It's a...long distance race, quite solitary and very exhausting." -Albert Camus. The dictionary defines freedom as the condition of being free from restraints. Freedom is not just a word one can say without meaning. It is a privilege, a privilege not everyone is granted. Freedom gives the liberty to choose what should is done and how.
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In America there is numerous of choices that someone may make on a daily basis. If someone were allowed to make their own choices and were being told what to do; then they would not be free. When someone is allowed to speak when they want to, and say what they want; such as their opinion or view of something. Being allowed to have a right to speak is one of the most important characteristics of being an American. Thinking and stating your opinion in any predicament it a strong part in being a citizen because people in the United States are known for being able to think in their own ways. Freedom can stretch too many things such as being able to do as they please, they are not forced into doing anything that someone may want. The citizens of the United States are not made to do anything that one may not want to do; like
Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
Since America is such a powerful country, it follows that the United States President is one of the most powerful figures in the world. Considering the United States is a democracy, it would seem obvious that the people directly elect their leader. Wrong. The popular vote has nothing to do with the election of the president. Instead, the way the president is decided is by whichever candidate wins the most electoral votes. Each state has a certain amount of electoral votes based on the number of people in that state’s House of Representatives. In most cases, the winner of the electoral vote is also the winner of the popular vote. In a few rare cases though the winner of the popular vote lost the election. This shouldn’t be. The U.S. should have the people directly elect the president. A most recent case was the last election of 2000, Bush vs. Gore. Gore had the popular vote won by a margin...
The benefit of a democracy is that everyone gets a say in how the government should work and how the leaders are elected. Although most democracies are fair systems where everyone can say their piece, sometimes there can be flaws in the system. In the United States all citizens are guaranteed one vote per person and everyone has an equal voice in electing the people that serve in the government as officials. Every four years at the end of the current president’s term in the month of November, the citizens of the US are given the opportunity to go out to the polls and cast their vote on who should be the next president and vice-president. But the truth is that once the votes are cast, they go to the electors
Throughout history freedom has had many different meanings and definitions; based on race, gender, and ethnicity. According to the dictionary freedom means the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint (“freedom” def. 1). Freedom may seem like something given to everyone however it was something workers had to fight for. Not everyone believed that workers’ rights needed to be changed, which led to a long battle between workers, employers and the government. To the working class people freedom meant making higher wages, having regulated hours, workable conditions and the right to free speech.
Freedom is a right that is granted to few to truly be free you. Throughout the articles , speeches and the Book “To KIll a Mockingbird” that we have read; have in which shown the beliefs and freedom man believes we all deserve, what does it mean to be free.

To gratify ones desires by whichever ways they choose is freedom through indulgence. Privileges are g ranted through freedom. In some countries the dictator or ruler makes choices for their people on regards to what profession they shall have or to what religion they shall worship. In the United States we have special privileges that let the people of the country decide on their own religion and professions.
What Freedom Means to Me Freedom to me is a gift – a gift that contains the ability to give the recipient endless opportunity in life. Because of our beloved veterans , now and in the past, we have this gift bestowed upon us. Citizens in America are truly privileged to have this independance, because not everyone can live their lives with such fulfillment that freedom grants us. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a speech in which he stated that Americans are entitled to four freedoms – the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion, the freedom of want, and the freedom of fear.
