Personal Nutrition Assessment Project I think this project was a great opportunity for me to learn how to educate and guide patient’s in making better nutritional decisions with the help of my using MyFitness Pal. I think MyFitness Pal is an excellent resource for any patient that is interested in improving their nutrition. Nutrition is often neglected by patient 's, therefore, as dental professionals it is important to use the latest technology to attract our patient’s to become more interested in their nutrition. The positive impact of this project has encouraged me to recommend using MyFitness Pal to my patient 's as a hands on activity to help correlate nutrition and the patient’s overall health. This project also allowed me to become aware of the poor food choices I made, which will help to benefit my patient’s that have a similar diet. I found MyFitness Pal app to be easy to navigate and interpret. I found many advantages in using this app in regards to benefiting my patient 's and myself. I found the app to be accurate and precise at calculating my average percentages compared to my goal percentages. I also found the process of using MyFitness Pal to be very detailed in the list of nutrients found in my food items. I think using this app has made tracking my nutrition and talking about nutrition a fun experience. Not only has this process been fun, but reading the reports has helped to motivate myself to reach my goal. I also think I can relate more to patient 's that have the similar diet as me now by using MyFitness Pal and explaining the nutrients the body needs. Therefore, I believe the future use of this app will benefit patient’s nutritional health and help motivate patient 's to become interested in
My Negative eating habits and recent medical troubles are what prompted me to choose a healthier diet as my behavior Change Projects. I recently went to the doctor and I was informed of my high triglyceride levels and I was put on medication. In addition, I am vitamin D and B deficient. After, visiting my doctor I knew I had to make a change in my life. In the Past year I have gained a little over ten pounds. So not only is this project helping me improve my diet, but has also given me a new incentive to lose those extra pounds.
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.

In June of this year my family physician placed me on a doctor assisted weight loss program that enabled me to eat my favorite foods but in appropriate proportions and in heathier ways. A dietary assessment method is a critical component in many aspects of nutritional epidemiology such as evaluating energy and nutrient intake in free-living individuals (Taren, et al., 2002). The purpose of dietary assessment data collection is to establish the causal associations between diet and disease aetiology (Jain, et al., 1996). However, it is very difficult to measure exactly how much food people eat or to determine the nutrient content of the diet (Wild, et al., 2001). Therefore, the valid and precise techniques are required to estimate accurate and detailed information on food and nutrient intake as well as eating patterns for identification of the dietary influence on health and disease (Bingham, et al.,1994).
The 3day’s food analysis provide me with the necessary information, to where about I was getting my energy, vitamins and mineral. It’s also shows whether or not if I was meeting all my nutrient need. Unfortunately, this unusually 3days food analysis did not meet my usual eating habits. The 3days food analysis revealed, that I didn’t meet, my nutritional need in many areas. I think overall my energy intake was less than my output. I am not surprise or dissatisfies, because it’s not like I was trying to lose or gain weight.
The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) usually ranks among the top ten fattest cities in the United States. Because of the obesity concern in the RGV, I decided to change my eating habits at a young age. Unfortunately, my lack of nutrition knowledge and professional guidance led to a severe illness and several hospitalizations. Throughout my illness, I consulted with several professionals who taught me about healthy eating habits, mindset, and lifestyle. They are making patients more aware of the things they are or are not doing to their body, as well as what kind of food they are taking in. For example, I know doctors recommended documenting what you eat and for often/ how long you work out; well there is an application on your phone to help you keep track of activities and the food/ how much water you ingest. By getting the patients involved they are becoming more conscious of their actions. I applications like that to keep track and it keeps me more aware of what I eat and the ingredients that are in it.
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
An important aspect of nutrition is monitoring and preventing chronic disease in a population as a whole. Dietary assessment is a form of public health intervention that allows nutritionist to study dietary patterns and intake among the community. In this paper, I will focus on three particular assessment methods, which consist of 24-hour recall, three-day food diary, and NHANES food frequency questionnaire. I will compare and contrast these three methods of dietary assessments, as well as discuss the limitations and beneficial factors of each method. Also, I will review and compare my results from my dietary intake.
In this task I had to record what I ate and the amounts of each serving over three consecutive days during the week. This tasks aim was to get us to be aware of what we are eating and what we should change in our diet to be as healthy as we possibly can be. Having a healthy weight can reduce risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. 21-25% of Australia’s adolescents are overweight or obese and 2-5% are underweight. (2007 ANCN Survey) This report is to support the aim as it will include how well I have done fulfilling each food group throughout the three days. Instead of a food pyramid, which is what is usually referred to, the new way of measuring these is in a pi graph on a plate as it is more accurate and also easier to determine how much you should eat of each food group compared to the others. There are six food groups all together, all with important roles to the human body. I will be comparing my intake to the latest Australian Dietary Guidelines to see how healthy my daily diet is.
Being able to evaluate nutrition websites based on different factors is quite important. Broadening your nutrition education has various benefits a few include: being able to help others with nutrition, you can be educated about the foods you eat, and being able to apply accurate nutrition information to your life. The three websites I will be observing for nutrition accuracy are livestrong.com, supermarketguru.com, and teenweightwise.com. I will be comparing them to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 on calories and weight and how foods to avoid are discussed.
While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body. I had never realized how big of a role that the food that I eat plays in my everyday life. Eating has never been something that I really think about it is just something that I do. After I looking at the data of what I eat on Choose My Plate, I realized that my eating habits are far from balanced and that I needed to work on bringing my eating habits to a better balance. While there are a lot of things that I have been doing right, there are also many things that I can work on.
I chose to have the same meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner for three days, not in a row, of course. So day one, two and three will look the same; it is roughly what I consume on a regular basis, I really didn’t have to alter my meals much at all, only to make sure I had the same meals each day.
