Personal Narrative: Why I Neede Failure

Emerson states, “Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.” The quote explains if people never go beyond what they have already accomplished, they will never progress in life. An initial reaction would be “I have not mastered anything, so I am unable to respond to this question.” Growing requires breaking out of comfort zones and broadening horizons. If a person does not go beyond what they are capable of achieving, they will not grow. Failure assists in growing and learning, in turn leading to success. If people never expand their horizons, then they never experience the new adventures life has to offer.
Without the thrill of a new experience, life would become a boring repetition of activities we have already mastered.

Therefore, to break out of comfort zones, people must go beyond what they have already mastered.

The human race is so focused to not fail, that we don't aim for success, settling instead for a mediocre life. From personal experiences, I have learned that someone who does not try harder than they are already able to achieve, they will never accomplish a task beyond that level. For example, if a gymnast does not push himself/herself to learn new skills and increase their flexibility, they will never move up in ranking and stay in the same spot. Some people will fail and will want to give up, but sometimes failure will impel someone to work harder than they were initially trying. Giving up is not an option, no matter how much a person fails. People should continue to try and never stop trying to reach their highest
