I have tried to exhibit the four qualities of a DAR Good Citizen: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism through my involvement in community theatre and student government.
Theatre is an activity that requires both teamwork and leadership skills. When auditioning for a play, an actor is making themselves a part of a team. Everyone in the cast and crew is now dependent on that person, whether they are aware of it or not. Being in a play is a huge responsibility, especially if one has a leadership position. I have taken on leadership roles by stage managing four productions in the past year including The Importance of Being Earnest and Mary Poppins. All productions required me to be a responsible, trusting and dependable leader.
...ssence, Adam Burke’s perception on directing and theatre production is very useful insight. He expressed that importance of a director being a true leader. A director must navigate the cast and crew to a particular vision and keep them on that path. In addition, a director must be professional and maintain a positive attitude when it comes to dealing with opposition from a crewmember in the production. Essentially, Adam Burke expresses that a director must stay ahead, in regards to funneling the cast towards the appropriate vision and talking dealing with any problems that arise. Additionally, if there are any mistakes during the performance, it is okay because the audience does not expect a flawless production. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. Overall, I thought Mr. Burke did an exceptional job answering our questions and I would like to thank him for his time.
In 400-500 B.C. the initial motive for theatre and performing arts was not entertainment, but specifically for the people to see and hear stories about Greek heroes and gods. Oedipus Rex, is known for its horrific plot, but it was also one of the first performed plays. It was controversial and caused distress because the plot contended with their former believe about fate and one's control over their life. Theatre was used to influence the thinking of the audience and forced them to see things from a different perspective not only on stage, but in their life, long after the last scene was performed. This is where communication comes into play because if it is not carried out the way it was intended, one scene or line can change everything. For an actor, paternalism can take place the moment they audition and the script is in their hands. The process begins with reading the physical lines. Once they are read and understood, the creating of the character begins. Whether the character has 2 lines or 100 lines the character needs to be developed. Some of questions that need to be asked and answered are: who is this person, where are they going, who are they talking to, what emotions are they feeling and depending on the feelings, are they showing them through their words or body language? Their specific job is to have an understanding of what the piece is about and
I will be a dance captain for the schools fall musical. Dance captain is like a job that I was assigned. I have certain expectations that I need to meet and have goals to complete daily. I have been built into the schedule so that I have times when people are working with me while the director is rehearsing other scenes. My duties include writing choreography for the show and also being able to learn every dance number and blocking so I can teach it to all of the cast members and be there for reference when needed.
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
“The American Dream is that dream of land in which should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement,” (Adams,“The Epic American Dream”, 1931, pg 214). Reading this I had to translate this quote for myself. I got that the American dream is that every American citizen can be successful and prosper in this great nation if he/she puts in the hard work, possesses determination, and the required skill. Such ideal, I think carries a lot of weight and promise to those who take advantage of the opportunity. However this dream is slowing dying.
Acting is seen in your everyday life, whether it be on a tv, in a movie theatre, on a stage, or even in person! Acting goes as far back as 500 B.C. when it was used for the same thing it is today, entertainment. It still goes by the same basic rules, yet it has changed some. I’ve always loved the thought of being an actress on the big stage, so I thought this would be the perfect time to figure out if this is what I really want, or possibly make me want it even more.
Ever since I joined scouting as a Senior Webelo, I wanted to become an Eagle Scout. I started my journey by obtaining my Arrow of Light, then bridged as soon as I could to Troop 0713 located at American Martyr’s church in Manhattan Beach. Now at age 14 and going into tenth grade, I stand on the brink of success regarding my Eagle Scout award after years of hard work and determination.
I am a patriot in 1781. I fought alongside of General George Washington. I was one of the officers who went with General Washington on October 19 for surrender of General Cornwallis. General Cornwallis didn’t attend that day. He plead sick and in his stead he sent his second in command to take his sword to our commanders while the British band played “The World Turned Upside Down.” It was rememberable site but it only came after a great sacrifice that day. My best friends saved my life and hundreds of others with his sacrifice.
Set manager should also focus on entrance and exits the stage so the actors can be quick. Collaboration is an important key in any production. After reading the script, set manager should then collaborate with the director because he might have something to add or say about the theme of the play. This first meeting is very important because if set manager has any question he can clear out here. Do some research like find some photos that can help the director to clear his visions. If he thinks that you need help then he will provide designer, an architect, and
... tragedy. I think as a director the acting skills I would use most likely with my actors is to know if they are capable approaching indirect action on stage, I think that’s something that the production will consist of repeatedly. The theme throughout the play is constant illusion of self awareness and others around you. I need an actor who can go on stage and become the place and time. The set would consist of few elements, major obstacles of what I want to get across to the audience, by doing that it won’t take away from the feel of the play and what’s it trying to convey. This is a story of an idealistic son of a corrupt merchant exposes his father’s duplicity, but in the process he destroys the very people he wishes to save. Gregers Werle forces his friends, the Ekdals to confront the truth about their lives, but the truth only serves to wound them further.
On November 19, 2002, I sat next to my loving adoptive parents, in the Moscow airport, waiting to board a plane to the United States of America, to begin my new life as an American citizen. That was the very last thing I remember about my old life back in Russia.
The dream we all dream of. The dream that still lives on today. An American Dream is what we strive to obtain sometime during our lives. The prospect of material property. Or is that the dream for everyone?
Being a leader in almost any given situation has been an innate quality that I have possessed for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself nominating myself for leadership positions. My most recent and fulfilling leadership position was in my eleventh and twelfth grade school years when I held the position of Drum Major for Purnell Swett High School’s Marching Rams. Being in this position meant that I had to give up the spotlight of performance, turn my back to the crowd, and lead my fellow band members on and off of the field of competition, high school football games, and community parades. Over the course of these two years, I have learned many defining qualities about myself and have learned how to incorporate these newly learned and innate qualities into my everyday life.
The role of the citizen is a role with many parts that make up one model character. A good citizen must remain loyal to its country and respect all laws laid down by its government. They also work to improve their communities and stay up-to-date on all the goings-on. But what is a citizen? What makes someone a citizen? When you are a citizen, how do you be a good one? All of those questions and more are answered in this dissertation.
Before the rehearsals begin I will meet with each of the actors individually and talk with them about what they believe their character is truly about and what their objective in the play is. I will then tell them my ideas and conept and we will bounce off different ideas of how we can make the two ideas work or clash with each other and as a result we will have different viewpoints of the play but which will all add to what the concept of each individual is, and that is what the audience will do also. In my opinion it is my role as a director to help bring the best out of the actors but not tell then exactly what to do as then it would not be effective. They need to understand what they are trying to convey through the character themselves and not just what I tell them to do. After this meeting we will have several rehearsals to concentrate on how to convery this meaning. As there are not many lines, the actors will come in and do a full run through of the play so I can see what their take is on it. I will make notes and give them feedback on how I would interpret this play if I seen it and if that was what we were setting out to achieve. After this I will rent out an empty hall or some other big space and have some rehearsals there as I do not want to have miscrophones or sound system needed as the echo in the Winchester Rifle factory would provide enough sound, but because of this the actors would need to be able to get use to the different levels needed in their voices. I would have the director practice in makig his voice loud and boisterous, showing his authority over all of those in the play. The assistant would have an even voice but still loud enough to be heard clearly by the audience. There would also be a few rehearsals dedicated to movement because I want their characters traits to come out in this, for the protagonist to
