The water shimmered across the lake with patches of golden light that brightened and grew with the rising sun. My older brother and I alongside a pair of corresponding best friends ready the boat for a day on the lake. But the boat was not ours, no, in fact, it was my fathers that took a good bit of begging to use on our own. This would be the first and last time this would happen. With good winds and fresh blue skies we launched. The weather couldn't have been better. as we shot out of the no wake zone playing the radio so loud the fish could hear our adventure began.Cruising the lake we traded off riding the tube. For lunch we pulled into a small cove shaded by two oaks the cove nestled in between, the branches reaching out towards one another. With the radio off we rocked gently with the rhythm of the currents and enjoyed nature. As we set out to our last destination we knew …show more content…
We tied off to a stump still gripping to the cliff wall, this was our first mistake the second pulled the prop out of the water. As we reached the peek of the cliffs I noticed a large group of dark billowing clouds heading towards us. I pointed them out to the others but we decided that it was probably going to pass us. As we repeated the process of climbing up and jumping off the cliffs we put the clouds out of our minds until it was directly over our heads and no sooner had it arrived it let loose with everything it had. Already at the top of the cliffs when the storm began the quickest route to the boat was to jump and swim, easier said than done. The rain felt like being pelted with small rocks, the clouds blocking the sun it felt like night with the wind bending the trees and slamming the boat into the cliff
Eli let himself enjoy the cool breeze and occasional spray of water while thinking about his upcoming reunion with his folks. The bow of the boat rose out of the water as the boat moved into open water and the hull slapped the water every so often jolting Eli out of his comfortable state. The wind was not quite finished however, and as Eli looked back at dock, it picked his baseball hat right off his head and deposited it in the lake. He watched the hat glumly as it floated away from the boat. The weather though, generally continued to improve and as they approached a small island with a lighthouse, the sun began to set. Finally clear of the clouds which had obstructed it most of the day, the sun was putting on a show of amazing color that made Eli feel he was getting a glimpse into a corner of heaven as the clouds parted and showed brilliant blue behind the
He asked the Pilot, “What lay before us?” The Pilot was thinking and spoke, what they all were thinking, “What lay before us is unknown water over unchartered courses. How thrilling and how worrisome. We only have the wind, the sun, the stars, the moon and the sea to guide us. And we only have the wind, the sun, the stars and the moon to fear.
I felt a warm gust of wind tickle my face. Standing before me was the famous Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge. I leaned over the bridge. There were two little specks on top of a cliff. They took a big jump off the the cliff, cannonballing into the deeper part of the river.
The powerful engines were started, and the journey had begun. The boat flew along the water, and soon enough our destination was in sight. Anchored down near a small island was the perfect place to be. Hundreds of fish roamed this area, and I was bound to catch something. We were ready.
The sun is beating down on the water with immense heat, bringing its temperature higher and higher every hour. I can see bass jumping left and right from the shore. My father and I decide to launch the boat around mid-day. It takes ten minutes to get the boat uncovered and ready to launch. We finally get the boat in the water and set off to our favorite spots. These spots are usually the stumps in the middle, or the shallow areas near the back of the lake where there is a lot of cover. The dull hum of the electric motor is all the noise you can hear as the boat glides along in the bath water. The wake of the boat and the breeze in the air are the only disturbances on the surface of the water. I feel the sweat drip down the side of my face and the back of my neck turning red as the sun glares at me.
I recall in vivid detail the scenery around us as we embarked on our perilous journey down the Nantahala. We arrived at the drop-off point in the early afternoon the next day. The sweet smell of fresh pine trees was floating in the air and a soft midsummer breeze was brushing against our faces. After receiving directions and safety precautions from our rafting instructor, we geared up, boarded our raft, and set out for our voyage down the treacherous Nantahala. Sharing the experience with me were my mother, aunt, uncle, and cousin; along with out rafting guide. We were all ready for a fun and safe ride down the Nantahala.
It was on this route that we encountered a storm which nearly knocked us off course. It was night when it hit. You could hear a steady and calm breeze, then it began to rain. First softly, then it came pouring accompanied by lightning. I could hear the captain yelling at his crew
The wind started to pick up again and made the waves rough. After bouncing up and down, it soon stopped. We curved around each of the islands on the lake. The water was like a window because it was so clear. After another hour we finally got there.
You rose above the surface and took a deep breath. Moving your (h/c) hair out of your face, diving under water always made it a mess, you examined the beach.
When we got to the lake we backed the boat into the water. We loaded all of our hunting gear and guns into the boat. The air was crisp and the waves were crashing against our boat. We traveled full length of the lake and beached along the shore. The cat-tails were swaying like a palm tree branch.
After driving back and forth from the base to our hotel on the hand-me down school bus, we were all finally glad to hear the words,” Alright! Beach time!” . It was the finest thing we'd heard since,” We’re here.” The excitement radiating from the bus of confidence of our armed exhibition team, who got 8th place.
The loud grumbling noise from the ferry boat reminded me of a car’s engine complaining of old age. Most people around us took no notice of it and went about relaxing and enjoying their time. The soft rocking of the boat made my stomach squeaky and my head dizzy. I felt a mixture of excitement and apprehension since that was our first trip as a married couple to an unfamiliar island. As I looked outside the window, I saw the blue ocean glistening in the sunshine like tiny crystals. I looked up to the sky and saw no trace of a cloud. “This would be a beautiful day”, I thought to myself. Suddenly, a deep friendly voice overhead announced we were about to reach our destination.
More and more people has a pressure in their life. So they need a place to escape from the city and it’s crowded in order to get away of their troubles and stress. There is always some place they can go to getaway. Just by going to this one spot can aid you from all stress that is occurring. For me, the beach clear my mind and take away all my pressure.
I get out of the taxi and can feel the heat of the sun on my cheeks. I look to the right and see the crashing waves on the shore. There is a calm breeze that glides through the palm trees making them sound like hands clapping. I can see hundreds of people walking on the shore and streets, some taking pictures others holding surfboards. The winding narrow streets pave their way along the shoreline.
”REALLY!” Ashlee and I said at the same time. ”THAT'S SO EXCITING!!!”We climbed into the little motor boat and sped off, onto Lake Michigan. When we got to the middle of the Lake, we were already unpacking the gear. Ashlee and I had to swim together so one of us did not get lost or hurt.
