Snoring Makes Me Mad! Everyone has pet peeves and things they cannot stand about other people or just the world around them. One thing that makes me angry is people who snore. Whether it be a friend at a sleepover, or a stranger on a bus, snoring is what really gets on my nerves. I know that they can’t help it, but, even so, I can’t tolerate it! If I had to declare someone the “King of Snoring”, I would choose my dad. My dad’s snoring is incredible loud and obnoxious, and I think my mom would agree. He thankfully doesn’t snore every night, but when he does, it is unrelenting. I don’t know how my mom deals with it. In the morning, she always tells us of how she had to jab my dad in the rib at least 10 times to get him to quiet down, only for …show more content…
him to apologize, roll over, and beginning snoring again. On nights where my dad’s snoring is especially earsplitting, my mom has to move onto the bed in our guest room in order to get any sleep at all. If I don’t close my door, his snoring even keeps me up, even though my room is a full floor below his! He doesn’t do it on purpose, of course. In attempts to stop his thunderous snores, my dad has tried a multitude of products that claim to stop or reduce snoring. From special pillows to nasal strips, my dad has just about tried it all, none being successful. When my family and I go on vacation, sleeping in hotels is especially terrible. Being in the same room as my dad when he snores, with no escape, is atrocious! I remember one particularly bad night where I had to listen to music with my headphones in order to block out the noise. Sleepovers with friends who snore are another thing I can’t deal with.
Thankful none of my friends snore quite as loud as my dad, but, even so, the strident sound is incredibly bothersome. In particular, my best friend, Agata, has a habit of snoring. Her sounds aren’t noisy enough to wake me up in the middle of the night, but if she happens to falls asleep before me, I have a lot of trouble getting to bed. I don’t want to be rude and wake her up, but sometimes I have to, if I want to actually sleep the night. What I can’t stand about snoring is its unrelenting nature. Besides being loud and insufferable, once I am awakened from the sound of snores, it is just about impossible for me to fall back asleep. The continuous and grating sound that snoring produces is not dissimilar to that of a ticking clock or a faucet dripping water, but of course, only much louder. Once I start to hear someone snoring, it is impossible for me not to count the beats in between each snore and anticipate the next one. I’m sure everyone can agree that snoring is unwanted, although, it bothers some people more than others. I applaud those who are able to ignore the sound and just sleep through it; for me, it is just about impossible. Of course, I don’t hold the fact that they are snorers against them, but if I find out that I will be sleeping in the same place as someone who snores, I can’t help but
cringe.
Smack smack smack the sound that just grinds my gears. Everyone has that one thing that just drives them up a wall. Nothing makes me more mad than when people smack their food. Ever since I can remember I've had this total hate rid towards the sound of people smacking their food. This what is the problem in this day and age people just don't have the manners that they had in the olden day. Coming from a family that is very strict at the dinner table, I've developed a set of standard of mine own. First of all smacking is just horrible manors, second it is just disgusting, finally smacking is an easy thing to fix.
There is a history of snoring but no witnessed apnoeas or nocturnal choking/gasping episodes. She reports fragmented sleep but no history of nocturia. "Sleep disorders appear to be a global epidemic, affecting up to 45% of the world's population" (Noor, et al n.p.). That’s leaving a 55% chunk of the world’s population not affected. More than 70 million people in our nation experience sleep disorders, most of whom are unaware of the impact on their daily life (Wells,Vaughn 234). Due to a large portion of people being unaware of sleep disorders’ impaction, the number continuously increases. Major sleep disorders are known to be Rapid Eye Movement(REM), Insomnia, and Obstructive Sleep Apnea(OSA). Over 80 medically recognized sleep disorders exist with insomnia, sleep apnea, snoring, jet lag, shift work, sleepwalking and restless legs syndrome being some of the most common (Wells, Vaughn 234). "Poor sleep in the general population has been shown to have a significant impact on daily function, including considerable daytime cognition dysfunction, decreased ability to accomplish daily tasks, diminished sense of success and achievement, depressed mood, and reduced enjoyment of interpersonal relationships" (Andrews, Strong n.p. 500). Sleep disorders affect a large portion of society, leading people to have a daily lifestyle of drowsiness, stress and poor productivity; treatment has increased as more people become aware of sleep disorders.
It is imperative that a sleep disorder is treated because an early treatment can prevent a drastic problem in the future. There are several options or paths to take when dealing with a sleeping disorder. However, options depend on the severity of the sleep disorder. These options include changing sleeping patterns, use of machines, and medication. Initially, home remedy treatments are enough to achieve a better night’s sleep. A simple position change while sleeping can be enough to stop snoring. An addition of a second pillow or changing the room temperature to a suitable level may be the missing piece to stay asleep throughout the night. Withhold eating food two hours before bed helps prevent a digestive system upset that may occur in the middle or beginning of sleep. Individuals do not have to deal with a sleep disorder alone, family members or bed partners identify the signs as well (Living with Sleep Apnea 1). Having the emotional support from loved ones can make the process of dealing with a disorder easier. Treatment for a severe sleep disorder can much more extensive and expensive. For individuals with sleep apnea, a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine is available with a prescription. This machine is put on the face as a mask and thus raises the pressure of air in the throat, providing an opening for the airway and fortunately a better sleep.

Historical archives record famous short sleepers and notable insomniacs—some accounts reliable, some not. When Benjamin Franklin counseled, “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,” he was using sleep habits to symbolize his pragmatism. Important public policy issues have arisen in our modern 24-hour society, where it is crucial to weigh the value of sleep versus wakefulness. Scientific knowledge about sleep is currently insufficient to resolve the political and academic debates raging about how much and when people should sleep. These issues affect almost everybody, from the shift worker to the international traveler, from the physician to the policy maker, from the anthropologist to the student preparing for an exam.

Like I mentioned earlier in my blog 4, I do not get annoyed easy but there are a few things that I cannot tolerate. I have a normal minimum of pet peeves. For example, it irritates my soul when someone disrespects someone else. It does not have to be directed towards me. It's just the simple fact that someone was not taught right as a child or that their parents did teach them well, but they just do not care about how others feel. Earlier this month, I was at a restaurant with my family and it was a customer being rude to the waitress by yelling at her and constantly complaining about everything she, accidentally, did wrong. Another pet peeve of mine is when someone is eating something, but they are chewing with their mouth open. This has got
My morning always begins around seven o'clock when I am awakened by a sweet, gentle, little voice calling . . . "DADDY, I GO F'RIDE!" This is followed by a dainty smack of tiny lips on my cheek, then another smack of Mom's lips on my lips. A few minutes later, the front door slams shut and I slip back into a slumber. The next thing I hear (a few hours later) is the bloodcurdling, screaming caw of a pterodactyl about to swoop down and pluck me right out of my bed. Actually, it's only my alarm clock. I don't dare hit the snooze button, as I do not even want to hear that again.
Individuals who experience sleep apnea often unknowingly wake up during the night in order to help themselves breathe better. Due to being deprived of sleep during the night, many suffer from daytime sleepiness which leads to loss of productivity, accidents, and socioemotional problems. Side effects of sleep apnea in adults include strokes, heart failure, high blood pressure, etc. This sleeping disorder can be treated by propping one’s head on a pillow, losing weight, or wearing a continuous positive airway pressure device (CPAP) that sends a continuous flow of air into the nose while
Not only did the snoring affect my sleep schedule and my sanity, but it also affected Hayley in many different ways as well. With such small nasal passageways, she often ended up with a stuffy nose during the winter season which caused her to lose hours of studying as she always felt sick. In her attempt to fix this problem, she tried many different over-the-counter medicines and even resorted to inserting a small portion of a dryer sheet into her nostril, which ended up getting stuck.

Finally, the other thing that makes my neighbors mean, besides being unfriendly and dirty, is that they are very noisy. They have three children and the smallest, the baby, is the one that makes all the noise during the day. He is always crying because he is hungry or because he wants something. Why do not his parents try to lull him? Besides the baby, they also have one big dog that barks all the time. For example, the other day I was going to study, but then it began to bark, and thanks to its harmful noise, I could not concentrate on what I was doing.
