‘Tweet’ I heard a whistle go. It was time for my first lacrosse practice. I had never played in my life, and I was very nervous, but excited at the same time. My team all ran up to the coach in full pads, still getting used to the huge weight of the helmet. “Pass to each other for 10 minutes”, the coach yelled. I had never even passed. There were about ten high school coaches there to help us. One of my coaches dashed over to me and passed. I missed every single pass, but right away I saw a ball fly right into the pocket of my stick. I was extremely happy that I actually made a single pass. I passed another time and it was good! I was starting to get the hang of it but we were called off to practice shooting. I knew I’d miss most or all shots,
Shootings at Kent State University What happened at Kent State University? This is a question that many Americans were asking following the crisis on the Kent campus. In the days preceding May 4, 1970, protests, disruption, and violence erupted on the university grounds. These acts were the students’ reaction to President Nixon’s invasion of Cambodia.

I had eaten great all day and I was ready for hell. I got there and didn’t realize there were 100 kid trying out for 2 teams. Mikey and I started off by doing line drills and I wasn’t the best but I was doing what coach had asked everyone to do. I was the only one giving it 110%. Then long field passes were next. Again this was all new to me and I was just going with it. Thirty minutes into practice I felt a bump on my shoulder. It was coach Haven. He asked me, “Hey La Garsssa how long have you been playing lacrosse for? I responded with “oh you know 30mi…. he was shocked and wasn’t ready for the response. I did have great ball handling skills and I was working my ass
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
On 07-26-2017 at 0328 hours I was dispatched to 1735 Illinois in reference to an assault.
Platoons in Connaught consisted of twenty men; ten snipers and ten spotters. A spotter’s job was to use binoculars and be an extra set of eyes for the sniper. In case the primary sniper was killed, the spotter could take over the position or alert officers of the casualty.
Inspired by his dad, who played baseball in high school and college, he started playing tee-ball. He played tee-ball until two things happened, one he thought it was extremely boring and two, his team did awful. This is the beginning of Jack Henderson’s journey with his true passion lacrosse, and how the word excelsior has always been an inspiration to him throughout it.
I had Just got done with lacrosse practice and about to walk down to the car when all of the sudden a pink fluffy polar bear flew down and grabbed me and threw me onto its back i was actually not scared i enjoyed this odd ride when all of the sudden i saw a shiny silver tiny… peanut! It smiled a weird peanut smile and jumped into my ear and wisped a date. 2024 all i did was nod my head and poof we turned the oddest yellow in the world! We vanished the last thing i remembered was a purple and green monkey staring back at me.
It was on a regular school day when then seventh grader, Macy Misfeldt stumbled on a lacrosse flier posted in one of the hallways at Superior Middle School. This flier incited an interest in Misfeldt and then prompted her to ask her mother’s permission to join the team. After being pronounced as too young to do so Misfeldt anxiously anticipated her next year.
In 2014 I was determined to make the high school soccer team. Every day at 8 am at the beginning of a dreadfully hot August morning, I would get to the turf fields for 4 hours and participate in “hell week”. After a long week, I made the JV team. I was never put into the game and felt like my hard work was put to no use. My sophomore year rolled around and I tried extra hard to impress the coaches. Anything and everything was a competition to make it to the top. By the end of the week, we all gathered around the paper that had names of the players who made it. I didn’t make the team. After tears and telling myself to move on, I went to the field hockey tryouts. I knew nothing about the sport and was terrified that soccer wasn’t my go-to
...slapshot from the point. Two minutes later the puck broke loose from one of the other team's defensman and landed on our most talented player’s stick. He is not only as fast as lightning but can also stick handle around any NHL team blindfolded. He made a quick move to the left, and then to the right. He took the shot which went top shelf on the right side. The second I saw the net move I knew we had done it. The underdog team defeated the 1st ranked team in the state championship game for Missouri high school hockey. An uproar from the mob of people could have been heard from two miles away. I couldn’t believe we had done it. We beat the odds, and took the cup. I felt shivers travel down my bruised and cut body. The hard work did pay off, for we had done it. The tears were flowing like the water dropping from the Niagara Falls. We were State Champions.
Probably one of the most important decisions I've made in my life happened this year. The decision was me , choosing whether i wanted to do drumline or play hockey. As a freshman going into the first year of highschool, it lead me to think of plenty of things. But one important fact that stuck out was me deciding if I wanted to pursue music or sports. As a freshman , I knew that I couldn't balance sports and marching band at the same time. Rehearsal for marching band happened everyday after school until 5 pm. I knew I couldn't do homework and study for tests with only 3 hours if hockey started at 9. So, I made the decision of choosing drumline over hockey. Not only would it help me balance my time doing homework, it would also help me on my
I woke up and got dressed for the game, I put on my shorts, gathered all my equipment, and made a game plan for the big game. I thought to myself, “I need to play the best game of my life and never quit.” I went downstairs and heard a car honking outside. I went to the door, put on my cleats, and went outside. My friend George and I got out of the car and put on our equipment, and went to start practicing. I was the goalie so of course I have the biggest responsibility on the field. I knew I had to step up and make a lot of saves.
SWOOSH. That’s all I hear in a gym full of 100 or more screaming fans and the sound of the buzzer going off as if it was never going to stop. As I laid on the ground gasping for air, I came to my senses that I just hit the game winning shot against Tates Creek high School with 3.7 seconds left. This shot was the shot of my career but who would of knew 7 years prior to that shot that I would of became a top rated shooting guard in the city of Lexington, Kentucky. My whole basketball career all I’ve known is to shoot a basketball jump shot, that was my duty, my job, my responsibility but never did I feel I was mechanically doing my whole life’s work wrong.
Lacrosse should it become an official high school sport? As this topic comes in many states in the nation there is a huge controversy in the world of lacrosse. Many states on the east coast have made it an school sport, but that really do us people in the midwest now does it? Just in the last couple of years the NAIA has made lacrosse and official school sport. Which is a huge deal for people like me who would like to play at the next level but don’t have the money to play in the NCAA. There is twenty two states in the United States that has recognized lacrosse as an official school sport. Missouri is not one of those states however. The lack of funding in the high schools in the state of Missouri is what is preventing the sport grow at the pace it should be growing, the amount of teams, and the lack of coaches. Missouri State High School Activities Accusations or also known as MSHSAA should make lacrosse a recognized school sport so that the sport can keep growing at the rate it is.
