Everyone has their own unique style of writing, but it’s all based on what they have learned through their educational experiences. Some styles of writing are simple, some more complex. When I start to write a rough draft , first I start by reading over the topic and think up a basic outline in my head of what I’m going to write and how I’m going to go about writing it. Starting an essay is always a struggle for me because I’m not much of a writer and I just don’t want to do it, so starting is the hard part. After I got my thoughts together I start of by titling the essay and then for my first draft I pretty much bull shit everything and start typing whatever comes to my mind. In the first paragraph I make sure to state what I’m trying to prove or my argument, but u will also notice I ramble a lot because I type how I talk and I talk a lot. So even though I hate writing it comes extremely easy to me because I love to talk and writing is just like talking to yourself… and I do that sometimes. My first drafts always suck though, people will edit it for me and I’ll look at their edits a feel like I’m extremely stupid even though I know how intelligent I am, I’m just terrible and grammar and spelling. So when I’m writing something I like to use spellcheck as much as possible so there isn’t as much work for the editors. As soon as I’m approaching the end of a second paragraph I like to stop for a minute and think up how I’m going to end the essay in paragraph three. I usually do just three paragraphs because that’s how I was taught, a introduction, a body, and then a conclusion

Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. When we see well know writers, the ones who are making a lot of money from getting many of books published, we see them as people who just wake up and sit at their desks, feeling good about themselves and knowing how talented they are, and just start typing these excellent passages. Not one of those authors just write perfect first drafts. Only few writers know what they are doing until they have already done it. They don’t just start typing a couple of sentences then all of a sudden start writing these masterpieces. Sometimes we feel that writing is a struggle to do, even those writers who have to best written essays. A first draft is called the “child’s draft,” you let all of your words spill onto the paper in no certain order, but no one will see it and you can put the words together later. My relationship with writing has been much like roller coaster.Some experiences I had no control over. Other experiences were more influential. Ultimately it wasn’t until I started reading not because I had to read but because I wanted to, that's when my relationship reached change. I would have probably never cared about writing as I do today if it weren't for the critics in my family. When I was a child, my aunts and uncles always been in competition with who's child is better in school. I have always hated reading and writing because of the pressure to prove my family wrong was overwhelming for me. I had to prove them wrong and show them that I was capable of being "smart" which according to them was getting straight A's in all your classes.
Strategies and techniques that a person uses are those that allow you to write great papers. There are no rules on how an essay should be written; the only expectations are to get your main point across to your audience. When I read “Proficiency” by Shannon Nichols I really felt for her. I understood and resonated with her story perfectly, especially when she stated “After I failed the test the first time, I began to hate writing and I started to doubt myself. I doubted my ability and the ideas I wrote about.” (83). After I failed my writing assignment I was so embarrassed and didn’t want to write again but obviously, I had to. I always doubt the things I am going to say or which order I am going to organize the essay in. I try so hard to make sure all my sentences are cohesive and all my ideas connect to each other and the main concept but sometimes it just seems that when I keep messing with one little sentence or paragraph I just makes things worse.
There are many ways of how one can start writing any given essay thru plainly organizing his or hers thoughts. Great examples are using free write, bullet points, Venn diagram and so on. The method I use which is really helpful is quite different. Let’s say that I was to write a persuasive essay, before writing anything I would look through my folders until I have found a graded persuasive essay. My writing process and how I start off prepping for essays that always need to improve. First I will discuss my planning process and how much I do and how much I want to do. I’m always telling myself to read the topic, study it, practice it, get comfortable and try to stay focused. In reality I will glance the topic, take quick notes of the major parts for the subject, and after ten minutes get distracted and end up being feeling completely unnatural when writing, reading or typing. Never the less I plan a few times for one task until I can achieve something worth writing about in a way I can understand but very few can. My translation process is something I implement while I review over and over until I feel like my task is complete. I will discuss this in the short story
After gathering my ideas, then I start to write my draft. When writing my draft, I write all of my ideas down and organize them. The draft is where I write down my opinion and examples about that idea or topic. Also, I don’t worry about making mistakes until after I finish writing. For example, if I correct every paragraph as I go, then it will take me longer to complete the essay and I could lose me train of thought.
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
Many of you hate outlining but this strategy is pretty helpful once you figure it out. Like mapping, outlining can help you figure out where you want to go and how you want to get there. It also helps you figure out where you need more information or if you need to reorganize your paragraphs. If you still hate outlining you could try reverse outlining. Reverse outlining is exactly what it sounds like: write your essay first and then outline the paper to see if you need to move paragraphs around or if you need more information in a particular area. Once you get past the hard part of starting, take all of these ideas and create your first draft. For me, it's best to write your first rough draft in one sitting just so you can get all of your thoughts down. It's okay that by doing so you'll probably look at it in the end and think its
