Every great writer had to start somewhere, and they all started out with some weaknesses. While these writers grew, so did their strengths and their weaknesses. Throughout this short eight-week course, I went through a whole lot at a fast pace. I felted that I did a good job keeping up with the class, and staying on top of my work. Also while going through this class I learned that I had a few strengths and some weaknesses. I learned that I had strengths of imagination and clarity, with those I also have a weakness with my time management.
My first strength as a writer would be my imagination. While I read a story for the first time my imagination helps me to make my own story while I read it. It also helps me to see the bigger picture in a story, and really have a grasp of what the authors point in writing the story is. My imagination also helped me with my writing in this class, by helping me get my word count up. It helped me to imagining new things, and to get them down on the paper so that my word count would go sky high.
My second strength as a writer in this class would be my clarity. This helped me by making sure I was putting my words down in a way that the reader would know what I was trying to say. This also helped my imagination side of my writing, by making sure all my ideas where getting written down clearly. Having clarity

Along with my strengths I also had a weakness of time management. I had a hard time actually sitting down and getting my papers written. It was especially hard for me to get the time to start them when I was first trying writing them, because I had to come up with all the material. This hurt my essays sometimes because I would procrastinate, and then I would start the essay a few days before it was due. Since I would only have a few days to write the essay, I would have to rush and I would make simple mistakes. In addition to only having myself read the paper, I also had a time in class when my classmates got a chance to read my papers. There was a time set out in class, so that we got to give and receive each other’s essays. This was a good thing for me, because the mistakes that I had on my paper where brought to light. Also it was also a good thing because the students would give me ideas on what I should add to my essays to make them better. Along with the peer editing we also set time aside in class to discuss ideas about the essays. This helped me by getting ideas in my head, and getting a baseline for each story. Throughout this short eight week I really got to see what my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer.
I learned that I am a good writer whenever I actually sit down and write, and that I have a few things to work on. One activity I can do to enhance my writing skills would be to write. I just need to write more and learn new things as I write. One way I can improve my weakness as a writer, would be to get to a place without distractions and just start writing. Although this class was very short and at a fast past, I felt that I improved as a writer and that I have a good foundation to start out my college writing
career.
Entering this course I was worried because I have struggled with writing in the past, and writing has never been my strongest area. I feared writing classes in middle and high school, and had the same expectations for this course. I had wondered if I was ready for college English, and was worried that my skills and abilities would not be one the level they needed to be for college courses. My attitude and understanding of my writing process have both changed since the beginning of this semester. One thing that really helped my attitude and confidence was the fact that I was able to complete the assignments and get a decent grade. I was worried that I might not be able to do college level writing, and when I started completing the assignments and learning new ways to write my confidence and attitude changed. Another thing that really helped me throughout this course was that there was plenty of reading and information available to guide me through my assignments. I realized that there was more freedom when it comes to writing than I had experienced in high school. Being able to write more freely, and the freedom to choose what subjects I would write over made the assignments more enjoyable and easier to
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.
Most of us write in some form every day, so you would expect that most of us would be well practiced and pretty good at writing. I read and write all the time; I have been taken several college courses and nearly all of them require write of some form. However, before taking this class not only was I not a good writer, I knew I wasn’t a good writer. Now I am not saying that I am ready to write my first novel, but I certainly more confident in turning in my college papers. The content of this course and the style of teaching was incredibly beneficial to me. Throughout this course we had multiple assignments that were aimed to improve us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning.
Another one of my strengths as a writer and a student is my determination to complete every assignment to the best of my ability. I have never been the type of student that does not get her work done, whether it be an essay for English or a workbook page for Geometry. I work diligently in all my classes and aim to learn as much as I can from every assignment. Since English is not my best subject, I work twice as hard to improve every day and bring out the best writer in me. My determination is what drove me to enhance my weaknesses and polish my strengths.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
One strength I had was the organization of the essay. My sentences I wrote were not all over the place each paragraph talks about one topic. One weakness I had with writing this essay was my writing style. I noticed that in this essay my writing style was a bit choppy. I should have read my essay out loud to see if it had a good flow between my ideas.
It has took me 19 years to realize every writer has strengths and weakness. Entering your freshman year English 1101 class, I had the basic fundamentals of writing. I was very strong in following the writing process: 1.Brainstorming, 2.Rough draft, 3.First draft, 4.Final draft. However despite knowing the writing process I still had trouble following through with the writing process.
One strength I saw myself, as having when I enter college is being able to understand and critical think about a essay/article that I have read. However, after taking English 101, I have now learned that this is a strength of mine as well as a weakness.
Throughout this semester, my writing skills have improved. I came into this class as an immature writer, but by practicing certain skills such as being able to execute and understand writing as a process, being able to explain and critique my capacities for reflection and meta-cognition, and my ability to classify and critique my capacities at evaluating and selecting sources, I’ve become a better writer. I’ve come to understand that writing is a process. Writing a great piece doesn’t happen overnight, in one sitting. Writing a good paper means you write it a couple times, different drafts are involved, and you remove and add information.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
One of my strengths that I have as a writer is I like telling story so I always come up with a story because when I write I always have a planned story in my mind and I just put it down words on paper. Also before write I plan what I am going to write. This way of writing is very effective because usually I gather research and write down the important points and my own explanations. In fall quarter, I had a research paper instead of a midterm exam. My strengths as a writer helped me very much in my research paper and I got A grade in that
One strength in particular is that when I am writing, I tend to not wonder off topic. I clearly state what I am going to be talking about throughout the essay in the introduction, and I continue from there. In my wellness essay introduction, I wanted to clarify that there are multiple categories to wellness, so I wrote, “There are several categories of wellness that exist. The criteria of wellness promotes healthy living, and benefits a person’s overall health. Different categories are determined by the way they benefit the individual whether it is physically, emotionally, intellectually, or spiritually” (“Wellness”). ... strength in creating the lesson plans for each subject was utilizing lesson plans that I currently use in my Kindergarten classroom. My weaknesses in writing the lesson plans was analyzing the lesson plans and describing the teaching methods utilized, and identifying the type of assessment, either formative or summative, for each lesson. I feel these were weaknesses because these were areas of the lessons that I had to be a little more reflective over to determine the teaching methods being used, and how I was assessing the students during the lesson. As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work in see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded. Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me.
