The summer of 2016 and 2017 showed me a purposeful and eye opening experience. I spent the summer as a counselor at a day camp called YMCA Summer Camp, where I had attended as a Junior counselor. This summer camp is located in Spring Valley YMCA, Royersford, PA and is one of the branches of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA . Bonding the kids brings devoted memories of days of fun and play I had as a counselor. The summers at the Spring Valley YMCA Summer Camp were a time of fun and play which makes campers have joy and happiness. So it was with great joy and excitement that I worked as a junior counselor starting in June 2016. This was my first real job and I was a bit nervous because meeting new people who were my co-counselors was not my specialty and I’m …show more content…
I endured the weather because I had made a commitment to the camp to work for the entire season. Becoming a camp counselor, being responsible for the campers and the happiness of my campers, was both a meaningful and maturing experience. I had to take my responsibility seriously because taking care of 50 campers was not easy. All this responsibility, the hard days, did provide some satisfying relationships with my campers and other counselors too, and the salary I earned was great. I earned almost $2000.00 for the entire summer's work. In conclusion, the summer of 2016 and 2017 were the best summers in my life. I know that I have the dedication to complete a task that I agree to do, no matter how painful or uncomfortable it may be. I believe this strength and power will serve me well during my college years, as I work hard at my studies, face many challenges, and begin to identify a career that will bring me spontaneous and financial rewards. Somehow, I feel that the Spring Valley YMCA helped me grow up from child to adult and preparing myself for
...and end of the film, it is clear that there is a substantial amount of freedom within a summer camp, and it can be as good as you make it. The camp counselors are portrayed in two lights – one as adult kids who are irresponsible, and the opposing as dictators who never give you a break. This film also sets a standard for friendships, as the kids were willing to look out for each other and help one another.
The children go away for a week to attend these camps. They are so excited
Deciding to become a Student Guidance Counselor was not a fly by night decision. I did a great deal of reading and research before making a decision. I knew once I started a graduate program in School Guidance Counseling, it would be both challenging and a commitment until the end. I am somewhat nervous about this new journey that I am about to partake; however, I am ready to accept the challenge and make the commitment. I am a newly licensed teacher and there will be areas and terminology which I am not familiar. But, what I have found out thus far is that a teacher and a student counselor have quite a few things in common. They both work with other teachers, parents, school administrators, and the community in an academic setting. The skills I have acquired as a preschool director and teacher will be integrated into my career as a guidance counselor. I will have the skills to guide and enhance the social, academic, and personal growth of my students by using a variety of strategies which will be my primary goal. I will be able t...
I never wanted to leave. I truly thought my life was ending on that August day in 2010 as the Peter Pan bus pulled off the dirt bumpy road in New Hampshire on its trek back to the Bloomingdales parking lot in Connecticut. The night before, I stood on the shore of New Found Lake looking out at the horizon on my last night, arm and arm with my sisters, tears streaming down our faces as our beloved director quoted, "You never really leave a place you love; part of it you take with you, leaving a part of yourself behind." Throughout the years, I have taken so much of what I learned those seven summers with me. I can undoubtedly say that Camp Wicosuta is the happiest place on earth; my second and most memorable home. Camp was more than just fun even as I smile recalling every campfire, color-war competition, and bunk bonding activity I participated in. It was an opportunity to learn, be independent, apart of an integral community, and thrive in a new and safe environment. I recognize that camp played an essential role in who I am today.

...lowing me to have first hand experience with young children, and also to see the teaching process from the teacher perspective as well as the student perspective (I at one time attended the very same camp). I greatly enjoyed this experience, and I am forever thankful to the Batavia Basketball Program, who allowed me to do this service for the kids.
Teen wilderness camps are special camps where parents send their troubled teens when they feel like there are no other options for their children. These camps are in the middle of nowhere, and the kids are forced to hike for hours, sleep in tents, and go without proper sanitation for weeks, or sometimes even months. Teen wilderness camps have come under fire many times for injuries and even deaths that have occurred which has raised questions on whether or not these types of programs should be a legal option.
... and expectations that need to be met with a positive experience. “Just as [volunteers in youth programs] accept a large responsibility in ensuring [a positive] experience for children, the [organizations] in which they serve have an equally important responsibility in ensuring that [volunteers] are prepared and able to do so” (Wiersma & Sherman, 2005, p. 337). Recreation agencies also have a large responsibility to ensuring a child’s safety and wellbeing and this can be achieved through successful volunteer management. Traditionally seen as “free labor,” managers need to recognize the required effort of leading volunteers. Recruitment, selection, training, supervision, evaluation, retention, and reward are essential processes when deciding to utilize volunteers and certain steps, such as selection and training, are especially important in the youth program setting.
The Jefferson City Parks and Rec. Department hosts a daytime summer camp, along with several other extracurricular sports camps. The day camp runs from 6:30 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening when most children get picked up. This camp is ideal for
Having spent the better part of six summers hiking, cooking, orienteering, and practicing archery on the trails of Huddart Park, California, summer camp became a very precious time of my life. When I entered high school, I began working as a Unit Aide at my camp which meant I had the privilege to now teach young girls a whole slew of tasks such as survival skills, first aid, and knife skills. While attending Woodside Priory High School, I heard about similar activities such as archery and overnights that Mountain Camp counselors hosted. Chris Gregory encouraged me to look into the camp and see if it was something I might take interest in, and I soon discovered that it definitely captured my attention. I adore working with kids and would especially
I decided to do my third and last summer site visit at YMCA. I originally wanted to check out the YMCA on Expressway at the Rockwell Plaza but they said that they were too busy and that they did not have time to spare a few minutes. I am glad I got to go to the YMCA on Rankin Street because the staff there greeted me with a warm welcome when I walked in and it seemed like they were excited to see me. I liked the fact how they were very respectful and genuine, so right off the bat, I had a very good impression of this facility.
A first day at a new school can always be scary and nerve wrecking. Starting a new school can seem as if making new friends will be almost impossible. In the end a new school calls for new experiences and new friends.
Since Summer school classes were at the morning, so I was able to get a summer job at the afternoon. Luckily I was accepted by the Summer Youth Employment Program, and eventually I was enrolled by a non- profit organization called “Light And Love Home”. I was passionate and excited to serve my community, my occupation was teacher’s assistant, and my job was teaching third grade children. That was one the best experiences I have ever had, those kids were very cute, compassionate and intelligent. They were enrolled in a summer camp program, all the kids here were capable of solving complicate math questions, and decent reading skills. The organization provides many extracurricular activities such as computer class, gym, art and craft. These courses was beneficial for children, because they were able to discovered their specialty and hobbies through these activities. Many children experienced success and become more confident, most importantly these kids become true friends through these daily activities. Excluded from those activities, “The Light And Love Home” hold charity, street fair and marathon race to fundraising money for senior service and to help build orphanages in Africa, This experience granted me a huge self- confidence boost, I became more active within the community, as time goes by, I become compassionate, diligent and determined, moreover I acquired stronger
I started work when I was fifteen, spending my summers away at Camp Valleyway. The camp was nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians, cupped in a valley between two mountains with a natural lake at the center, its waters stained murky with southern clay. I worked as a swim instructor, and each week a new set of campers traveled from across the state to experience the outdoors.
