Recommended: My experience at camp
I never wanted to leave. I truly thought my life was ending on that August day in 2010 as the Peter Pan bus pulled off the dirt bumpy road in New Hampshire on its trek back to the Bloomingdales parking lot in Connecticut. The night before, I stood on the shore of New Found Lake looking out at the horizon on my last night, arm and arm with my sisters, tears streaming down our faces as our beloved director quoted, "You never really leave a place you love; part of it you take with you, leaving a part of yourself behind." Throughout the years, I have taken so much of what I learned those seven summers with me. I can undoubtedly say that Camp Wicosuta is the happiest place on earth; my second and most memorable home. Camp was more than just fun even as I smile recalling every campfire, color-war competition, and bunk bonding activity I participated in. It was an opportunity to learn, be independent, apart of an integral community, and thrive in a new and safe environment. I recognize that camp played an essential role in who I am today.
Attending sleepaway camp has long been a summertime tradition for kids across the United States. According to the American Camp Association, there are more than 7,000 resident camps in the U.S (ACA Facts and Trends 1). Whether it is a traditional camp with arts & crafts, sports, and theater or a special-interest camp, the campers build the same lifetime skills. Although some kids have a genetic predisposition to such important lifetime qualities, most do not. Every sleepaway camp has the same formula that enables kids to learn, practice, and improve upon important values and traits. Similar to mission statements across the board, Camp Wicosuta’s goal “is for every child to walk away feeling confiden...

...ver, the challenges they encountered at camp are automatically used in all aspects of their daily life.
There are dozens of benefits that camp graciously gives to campers which influence their daily life including friendships, independence, community, and competence. These universal values and skills are learned at all 7,000 sleepaway camps across the nation, creating more aware, socially conscious, and community oriented children from a young age. The tradition of camp will continue to exist due to the benefits it patently has. Although an adult can be successful without going to sleepaway camp; the exposer camp gives kids at a young age is incredibly beneficial. While camp influences who you become as an adult, it achieves its goal through a magical and memorable experience - something a lifetime camper will recognize and be thankful for as they reach adulthood.
The owner of Camp Wahanowin, Bruce Nashman wanted youth to experience friendships, learn new life skills and return to camp every summer for an amazing time. Camp Wahanowin was founded in 1955 in Orilla Ontario. (Wahanowin, n.d.) After reviewing his camp’s overall performance during the 2010 summer season, Bruce Nashman wasn’t extremely pleased with his numbers. He came to the conclusion that his camps should be attracting more parents aka the consumers, which is why he developed a marketing goal catering towards an increase in overall enrolment for the 2011 summer season.
...and end of the film, it is clear that there is a substantial amount of freedom within a summer camp, and it can be as good as you make it. The camp counselors are portrayed in two lights – one as adult kids who are irresponsible, and the opposing as dictators who never give you a break. This film also sets a standard for friendships, as the kids were willing to look out for each other and help one another.

After analyzing the entire Runaway and Homeless Youth Act as a whole, much can be said for and against the economic and political aspects. As to any given argument or subject pros and cons as well as strengths and weaknesses will be weighed out enormously. The Runaway and Homeless Youth Act does abide by guidelines and requirements. All parts of the Act provide all involved with a clear and present purpose. I also believe that these shelters or centers provide the troubled youth with a support system that they could be lacking. Most youth probably don’t realize how widespread homelessness is and it happened to be there only option in certain situations. The homeless youth will not have that feeling of being alone under life threatening circumstances.
Going away to camp, for most people, is a good experience. There people would interact with friends and play games. Going away to camp is all around a fun past time. Most people saw camp was a vacation, to get away from work or school or just reality all together. There are different types of camp. Rocking out with Mitchie ( Demi Lovato ) and Joe (Joe Jonas ) at Camp Rock in the movie Camp Rock to working on health and fitness with Rachel and Taylor in the movie Fat Camp and then there is Sugar Camp. Sugar Camp was the complete opposite of the first thing that comes to mind, when the word “Camp” is heard or thought of. From a small cottage to a camp of sixty cabins, Sugar Camp has managed to get through a training program, go through a world war, and become part of Dayton’s history. It all started with a man by the name of John Patterson.
Johnny Moore, a Boy Scout from troop 748, is on a camping trip in Point Lookout, a site frequented often by campers and nature enthusiasts. But Johnny Moore’s experience was different. In the middle of the night, Johnny is awoken by a voice calling for home. Usually this is fairly common, as the young scouts will miss home fairly easily and call out in the night. Most of the time the scout masters tend to these issues fairly quickly, however the callin...
Kitty illustrates a story on her survival: Kitty benefited the camp by doing her tasks without a grumble. This led to a surplus advantages with new job opportunities like: Working the bathrooms which permitted her warmth and a distant location from the
In the summer of 2015 I attended Camp Four Winds Westward Ho on Orcas Island, Washington. This camp is a non-profit organization that offers two month-long sessions for campers ages 10 to 16 with staff positions starting at age 17. This summer I worked in the barn for one month-long session and 10 days after that. I got up at six-o'clock every morning and I finished my work at the barn at six-o'clock pm. After I usually helped with camp dishes until 9 at night. I felt accomplished in working hard because I felt like I was making a difference to make the camp run smoother. Though after awhile it was challenging to even get up in the morning due to exhaustion, I persevered through it and proved to myself that I have a lot of willpower. I enjoy

The Two Methods of Camping and Which Is Better There are two ways that families or individuals camp. One way is permanent camping, and the other is transient camping. Permanent camping is exactly as it sounds. A camper is placed on a purchased or borrowed lot at a campground and is left there year-round. Transient camping is when one takes a camper with them to a campground and then takes the camper back home after he or she is done. Not all campgrounds have the option of going permanent; in fact most campgrounds only allow transient camping. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but which is the best? Well, that's just a matter of opinion. Transient Camping Let's start with transient camping. Transient camping is extremely common
Although the notion of being a camp nurse may summon up ideas of tranquil settings and a few weeks away from a "real" career, the truth is that the multidimensional role of the camp nurse is an exhilarating and thought-provoking to even the most knowledgeable nurse. The nurse must be equipped to deliver routine and emergency care to youngsters and the staff, screen children with chronic illnesses, train campers and staff on precautionary health matters, and work as a team with camp managers to implement rules that decrease the threat of harm or sickness. The camp nurse must have flexibility, critical thinking and problem solving expertise, as well as with a bit of humor and creativeness. The camp nurse must endorse and safeguard the health of the whole camp community. Children and staff at camps accredited by the American Camp Association are required to submit a current health history and physical exam.
While these teen wilderness camps may look like a great solution to a parent who believes they have run out of options, it is not. Sending your teen to one of these camps could leave them with physical and emotional scars, and possibly even death. There are many other options parents can look into, but no matter how troubled a teen is a wilderness camp should never be an option, because it is like sending your child on a possibly death wish.
It was our fifth day in the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, the halfway point of the trek. I as the Crew Leader was responsible for the other 11 members of the crew, including 4 adults. I was in charge, and amazingly the adults rarely tried to take over, although they would strongly advise me what to do in some situations. Phil, with the exception of me, the oldest scout and the Chaplain for the trip, was my second. Together we dealt with problems of making sure everyone carried the right amount of stuff in their pack to who had to cook and cleanup each day. The trip had gone well so far, no injuries, and the worst problem had been a faulty backpack. As I walked I thought about the upcoming campsite. Supposedly this one had running water from a solar powered pump—so had the last night’s site but the tank was too low to use for anything but cooking because the of how cloudy it had been of late. But today was bright and shinny, and hot, so I didn’t think there would be a problem.
From the friendships they can make that will last a lifetime, to the distinct memories they have of campfire traditions, camp is laced with immeasurable meaning. The skills that children learn and practice at camp can become a part of their identity, and may even grow into passions that they will continue to pursue as an adult. Whether they want it or not, the songs with constantly haunt them throughout the years and though they claim to hate it, they secretly enjoy the reminder of summer fun and adventure. One thing camp taught me that I find of value today, is to say “yes!” to adventures and working with my team to accomplish outrageously fun challenges and
When I open my eyes and see the bottom of the top bunk I think to myself, "day one of week five." At 7:00, the alarm goes off and I heard the grumbling of eight junior high girls as they start to slowly climb out of their beds half awake. "Rise and shine and give God the glory glory." As my typical morning song continues, I get eight sets of glares from my campers. For some reason it just makes me smile. "I wish I had my blow dryer." "I really want my make up." The usual teenage comment I hear the first day. "Five minutes to finish getting ready before Alpha!" I yell, "I'll meet everyone out side of the cabin!" I found my way outside Mt. Horeb cabin sitting on the picnic table just smiling to myself for no particular reason.
