Only a little while ago did I almost kill someone while simultaneously winning first place for my throwing team for track. Believe me, almost killing someone isn't my greatest achievement. The meet was all the way in Mc Minnville and we had to take a bus with not nearly enough seats for all of the boys. The bus ride was very uncomfortable for all of us. On most seats there were three people to a seat when they were only for a maximum of two. Everyone was relieved when we reached the stadium. With the weather being perfect for a meet, at the time it seemed like everything would go swimmingly. Track meets aren't like most sports which start almost immediately. Meets don't start immediately for anyone. I had to wait almost an hour to do any type of physical activity. By then, it had gotten at least ten degrees colder and looked like it was going to rain. It was finally time for me to do my first event, shot-put. Shot-put is where you throw an 8-pound, cast iron ball. Basically a cannon ball. By far this was my easiest event. My first throw was fine, with a length of 54' 3". My second throw was when it all happened. My hands were numb and my legs were shaky. I wound up to gain speed and strength four times over and went in the completely wrong direction. It flew right over the safety net and into the line of athletes and coaches waiting to throw. It narrowly missed a coach by almost two feet. One coach in particular over reacted and started freaking out. He screamed “YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO THROW IT THAT WAY”. As far as the length of meets, track meets are longer than cross country meets, track meets have many more events than cross country meets. In my opinion, placing in track is easier than placing in cross country, because in track meets there are only 9 runners per heat, and usually there are 2 to 4 heats. On the other hand, cross country has from 200 to as much as 700 people racing at the same time! Imagine that, running with 700 people, cluttered and being shoved and pushed while running. Not the best feeling in the world. Sometimes you get “spiked”, other runners tend to kick you or step on you with their spikes. Usually runners use plastic spikes, but there are some runners that use metal spikes, and at times they use it in a way to help them cheat, by “spiking” ...

The first Olympic Games were held in Greece in ancient times. They probably began in the sixth century B.C. The contests are held every four years in the summer. The first games lasted for only one day. There was only one contest. It was a short race. Only Greek men were allowed to run in the race. Women were not allowed to watch the games either, or to be anywhere near the gaming area. Other events were added later, swimming. But the ancient games were stopped in the fourth century, A.D., when Greece was ruled by Rome.
The time on the clock was 4:30 when the doorbell rang, fifteen minutes early. My three teamates were extremely anxious to get to the Center. I opened the front door and to my surprise the whole team was outside in their cars. They were all spiffed up in their shirts and ties, determined to win the game. As I threw my equipment in my friends car I was hoping that the next time I put it in there I would have a championship medal hanging around my neck.
The horn blew and the game started, Dedham won the face off and is running down the field at a faster pace than I was used to. They shot the ball! I couldn’t move my stick quick enough to save it, so I threw my body in front of it and got hit right in the shoulder. It hurt a lot, but what I hadn’t realized was that it hit my shoulder and reflected ten feet away from the net where my player caught it and ran down the field and scored. You had to make a shot, but it was from 4 yards away. My older brother made the shot and got a big stuffed dog for my little sister. We saw a throwing dart game and rushed over to it. Me and my brother played it and we popped 3 balloons. We got a small prize because you had to play more than once to get a bigger prize.
The course is weird, it’s a two lap which is good. This means you know exactly what the second half of the race was going to be like. Me as the 4th runner, and the 3 and 5 guys, went single file for a good ⅜ ofa mile and we were zooming around corners. during the back half of the race, I was really close to medaling. I went as fast as I could, I had no idea how fast the race had been, I thought when I saw the teens clicking by it was a 19:teens but I got closer and it was 18:17 I was astounded and straight out of breath. That race we were 4 points behind the 2nd place team, and they were in our district. That set us up for a good week and effort during practice because if we had a race at the district race, we were going to make it as a team to state,which is the goal all season long. I was not feeling great that week and I thought it was going to be like my first xc race finishing with a 16:02 time for 2.x miles and a lot of girls beating me. The person who has inspired me the most in my life would have to be my first tennis coach, Katee Sanderson. It is tough to narrow it down to one single person because I have numerous role models, but she would definitely stand out above any of the others.
I love to run hurdles, but unfortunately last year, little pulls and strains prevented me from running to my full potential. One Thursday, we had a home track meet against Lake Stevens. For the first time I was in pretty good shape for my race, the 100-meter hurdles. I began jumping up and down partially to stay warm, and partially to let out some of my excitement. By this time, I had butterflies in my stomach and the adrenaline was pumping. The starter asked us to 'Take your sweats off and stand behind your blocks.' 'Runners take your marks.' Hands shaking, I crouched into the starting blocks. The gun was up. 'Set!' 'Bang!' I bolted out of the blocks. I was way ahead of the other girls when suddenly, I realized I didn't have enough speed to carry me over the next hurdle. Gathering all of the strength I could, I grabbed at the air in hopes of guaranteeing clearance. I had just brushed over the wood when my foot hit the ground and my ankle gave out. I fell. I heard a gasp from the crowd and the other racers' feet pounding past me. I got back up. I had never gone over a hurdle with my right leg first, but I did after that fall. Sprinting as fast as I could in between hurdles, I found myself basically bunny hopping over the rest of them. My goal was to cross that finish line and to be able to say that I did the very best that I could, even if I didn't look very graceful along the way. Although it might have seemed like a bad day, I was proud. It was the first time I had ever fallen in a race, and not only did I get back up and keep running, I managed to place second.
The play was "Red 334"which is a run to our halfback, me, out of our dive series. I crouched over the ball as I jetted past the quarterback and ran the play so we could observe the changes we needed to make. I let out a sigh of relief because we were finished with the most dreaded part of practice; well, only until someone complained about not knowing their job on one of our pass plays. Coach Nelson undoubtedly decided we needed to run through the final pass play before we perfected our defense. The play was quietly called in the huddle with intentions of getting it right. I ran the play through my mind while I tried to remember what the snap count was and what I was supposed to do for that play. The ball was snapped and I jolted to the left of our team's quarterback to set up his backside protection. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed the defensive end raging toward the quarterback. I intensely stepped into him while lowering my body and exploded through his shoulder pads sending him stumbling into the line's pass protection.
Going into the first race we had not expected much since Susan and I had never run this type of race. There were so many crucial things that we had to remember. It wasn't just to get out of the blocks and burn up the track; there was a baton involved, a certain amount of steps to take, and even a certain way to hold the baton.
My love for tennis blossomed at the young age of eleven. During middle school my peers knew me as the boy who was remarkably talented at tennis and I savored that title. Butterflies floated throughout my youthful body whenever someone complimented me. As the years passed, my dad nurtured me into a top player. Before I knew it high school arrived and it was time to compete at a higher level. My excitement was out of this world, but I knew my dad could no longer push me forward and my future was up to me. However, the ego I developed over the years blocked what lie in front of me. Some of the first sports ever done were probably some of the simplest ever invented. A couple examples are footraces, wrestling, and boxing. The reason that these sports are really simple is because they don't really require any equipment or extra usage of anything besides your body. This made it to where anybody who wanted to compete in them could. It had no discrimination or anything with it because you didn't have to pay any money so even the poorest of the poor could participate in their own ways. Many boys would spend most of their time racing and competing to see who was the best. A boys dream was to be the fastest racer and compete in a colosseum.
When one considers that numerous of these Olympic events, have several subcategories inside each classification. For example, competitions are separated into men's and ladies' and team and individual events, it is very difficult to follow the Modern Olympic Games as they advance. Things were much easier to follow during the original Olympic games. The Ancient Olympics were originally just running competitions, but by the 15th Olympiad they had been expanded to thirteen competitions which were partitioned into six principle classifications and just men were permitted to partake in the occasions. The primary competitions were equestrian events, jumping, boxing, running and pentathlon. The Equestrian events were separated into two sub-classes: chariot racing and riding.
