Only a little while ago did I almost kill someone while simultaneously winning first place for my throwing team for track. Believe me, almost killing someone isn't my greatest achievement. The meet was all the way in Mc Minnville and we had to take a bus with not nearly enough seats for all of the boys. The bus ride was very uncomfortable for all of us. On most seats there were three people to a seat when they were only for a maximum of two. Everyone was relieved when we reached the stadium. With the weather being perfect for a meet, at the time it seemed like everything would go swimmingly. Track meets aren't like most sports which start almost immediately. Meets don't start immediately for anyone. I had to wait almost an hour to do any type of physical activity. By then, it had gotten at least ten degrees colder and looked like it was going to rain. It was finally time for me to do my first event, shot-put. Shot-put is where you throw an 8-pound, cast iron ball. Basically a cannon ball. By far this was my easiest event. There were only a few kids doing it so we got through it quick. I placed first out of every seventh grade boy there. My next event was turbo-jav. Turbo-jav is an event My first throw was fine, with a length of 54' 3". My second throw was when it all happened. My hands were numb and my legs were shaky. I wound up to gain speed and strength four times over and went in the completely wrong direction. It flew right over the safety net and into the line of athletes and coaches waiting to throw. It narrowly missed a coach by almost two feet. One coach in particular over reacted and started freaking out. He screamed “YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO THROW IT THAT WAY”.
