Personal Narrative-My Failure To Play Hockey

There was a point in my life when I was around the age of five where I started trying many things, and I would fail at most of the things I tried. The first time I went ice skating is a example. I made a giant fool of myself trying to skate around the rink by falling over no less than
10 times in less than a few minutes. It was a complete mess. Until then, I never realized just how easy NHL players make skating on ice look. It is a very false image caused by the professional hockey players.
Before I started to play hockey, I needed to lean how to skate properly, and most importantly, skate backwards. That meant hours of time just so I could try to play …show more content…

My coach even explained to me, “ It might be hard, but if you succeed, all of the failures will be worth it, and failing repeatedly and learning from those mistakes is the only way to progress.” I am thankful for the advice given to me by him. I spent days at the rink next to the teenages who seemed like giants, which makes sense when you considered I was 4’2” and
7 years old. Even though the teens seemed intimidating, I soon found out they were a friendly bunch playing travel hockey for Massachusetts. They soon helped me every time I went to the rink. I don't even think I would ever know how to properly repay the group from the travel hockey team for all of the joy I've had because of skating and hockey. My coach was right. I might of failed a ton, but it was worth it in the end.
Soon, I was skating smoothly, and flying across the rink as fast as i could all without falling one time. My skates had become a part of me - except when I tried to skate backwards.
The last hurdle I would have to conquer is skating backwards. The small group that had once been so helpful had left so I was left to figure out the secret formula to skating backwards by myself. I tried the trial and error strategy without much success. Soon, I tried to search it
