All my experiences have made me the strong woman that I am today. I learn from my experiences in life rather good or bad and rather I have done them or they happened to me. Everything in life is an experience and to me it is viewed as a never ending learning process. My most recent experience and challenge I had to face was with my previous employer HealthSpan, a health care facility and health insurance company. At HealthSpan, it was a Wednesday, November 12th and I was working with a group of seven people correcting and finalizing benefit plans for the entire month of November and we were about to start the same procedure for the month of December. Not to mention, I was helping another group produce health insurance identification cards that consumed …show more content…
majority of my time and had a delivery possession date for the first week of January for over three thousand HealthSpan customers. Unfortunately, the company had major layoffs and on November 20th the company laid off approximately seventy percent of the staff, including every employee within my group. Monday, November 24th, I received news from a meeting stating that I had to finish up correcting and finalizing benefits plans for the month of December by myself. In addition, to modifying and completing benefit plans for the month of December I had to terminate every employer group with fifty or less employees excluding people that purchased individual health insurance plans. For customers with over fifty employees that did not terminate their insurance plans, by law I had to reinstate their health insurance contracts. Later that month, I received an email that I needed to have a meeting with the president of the company. In the meeting, I learned that in addition to terminating and reinstating the remaining clients for the month of December I had to complete the process of the insurance cards alone. I also acquired a deadline to have my entire assignment completed by December 24, 2015 or the remaining clients would be uninsured for the month of January. Moreover, I was already aware that in December I would have lengthier hours and this would require me to abide just to meet deadlines. Entering into this new role was very frustrating because I had a lot on my plate and no longer had anyone to help me complete this task. Therefore, I had to figure out a process to complete this entire assignment in a timely manner. Eventually, I came up with a daily routine that consisted of mornings being utilized for renewing groups with over fifty member’s insurance benefit plans to figure out how many insurance cards I needed to generate for the company.
During the day, I populated the insurance cards, which required a lot of focus and concentration especially regarding the distinct and extensive numbers required for every card. For the last couple of hours of my evening, I worked with terming insurance customers. The terms were a result of individuals or groups that sent term letters, groups with less than fifty employees, customers who never paid their insurance premium, or were too late on the bill to renew their contracts. In essence, with dedication and commitment I was able to complete the assignments before the deadline. Due to tenacity and willpower, I was capable of meeting the goal and appreciated for my productiveness. As a result, I received a pair of box tickets to a Cavalier's playoff game and a bonus on my check which staggered me due to the number of layoffs. Rather than losing focus and giving up, I always remembered the quote, "Don't give up. The beginning is always the hardest. Life rewards those who work hard at
it". Under those circumstances, I learned how to be more prolific by understanding what it takes to thoroughly complete a task and to meet target goals. Correspondingly, I also learned to manage my time to keep up with multiple priorities to regulate what was most essential as well as developed personal strategies to help me progress more efficiently. I always saw a solution to the end and I never gave up on my assignment nor goal. Due to the unknowns of the Affordable Healthcare Act, there is uncertainty of what that will do with current and future budgets affecting how businesses operate - including hiring, employee compensation, growth and so forth. My ultimate lesson was no job is forever and with our economy today, there are no promises.
The things that impact you can be bad or good, depending on your situation and how severe they were to you personally. I’ve been through many hardships and great things. Things like, being beaten as a child, raped, enduring racism, placed into the system and taken back out after a year or so, dropped out of college, overall failed at life so far; Went to a job where I worked hard, learned things about life, working hard, and that you can get more out of life if you want it, you can get more, you can be more, that there is an upside to every bad situation, and that other people are just that, real people. These things that have happened to me personally have shaped a lot of my personality and my outlook on life. Things that make you realize that other people go through events and have issues I believe are the things that make you an adult. This event for me was when I was working at EPB and really went through life every day with people of so many different ages and seeing the very real things that trouble them and let them enjoy things. This comradery as well as a want for everyone around you to be better and do better made me realize that everyone is going through the constant struggle I was. It wasn’t anything incredible or anything that made me realize it, but it changes everything on how you look at things and how you take in how other people act. I believe that
This weekend I was paired up with a nurse from the floating pull. It was a very interesting experience. For the first time since the beginning of the semester I can say that I was faced with a lot of critical thinking situations. I spend the day running around reminding my nurse of things he forgot or task we had to finish. It was already 2:00 pm and I still hadn’t performed an assessment on a patient, at this point I remember what Mrs. McAdams had said before “ we are in the hospital to help but our main priority is to learn and practice our skills” so I made the critical-thinking decision to tell my nurse that I needed to at least complete an assessment and since we were about to discharged a patient I could performed a final assessment on him before going home. I performed my assessment, had time to document and helped my nurse with the discharged. This weekend was a very challenging clinical for me but I also learned a lot. I learned to managed my time better, be proactive in my clinical experience and I also found my voice.
My life experience might be simple, but I have learned a lot from my life. It is not necessary that someone’s experience has to be a good one to talk about; the point is he should have a passion to learn lessons from it. Every time you go through a bitter experience either in your travels, work, or somewhere else, I would have to say “Congrats! You have got a story to tell your grandsons someday.” I have learnt a lot of lessons from this life and taught myself beautiful lessons. I taught myself to stand firm, never give up, and do my best.
A few leadership experiences that I have had come from athletics. I started playing athletics when I was in the fifth grade and I still continue to play as a senior. Over the years I have had the ability to be one of the leaders of both the softball and basketball teams for my school. Being a leader has taught me to use leadership skills that I will need later in the future.
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
Everyone has a story, a pivotal moment in their life that started to mold them into the person they are today and may even continue to mold you to the person that you will become, I just had mine a little bit earlier than others. When I was three years old my brother became a burn survivor. It may seem too early for me to remember, but I could never forget that day. Since then, I have grown, matured and realized that what my family and I went through has been something of a benefit to be and an experience that has helped me in deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Do you think your past experiences have shaped the way you think and live your life? Well, in an excerpt from The Autobiography of Malcolm X he states, “All of our experiences fuse into our personality. Everything that ever happened to us is an ingredient.”Malcolm X is correct because every experience you have can impact you in a positive or negative way. My mom’s dedication to succeed in life, and my failures have shaped me into the person that I am today.
When I was growing up, I was usually pretty shy and talking to people that I didn’t know was not my strong suit. My dad was always a very big conversation guy, and I don’t think we could ever leave the store in under 30 minutes due to him talking to people all the time. I was not like that, when he would be chatting away with some random person, I would always keep quiet. I knew that this had to change in order for me to succeed in life. With this in mind, I decided to take a job at our local Hy-Vee in Fairfield, Iowa. At first, I was still a little quiet when I started working, but after just a few weeks, I could see myself starting to meet a lot of new people. I opened up and relationships started to arise out of nowhere. Now, whenever I go almost anywhere around town, I will see someone that I have gotten to know through Hy-Vee, and a conversation will arise even outside of my workplace. Getting the job at Hy-Vee has helped spark a light in me to become more outgoing and charismatic.
After surviving these traumatic events I knew I was destined for greatness. In life there are good or bad events that occur and after they pass they become sources of influence for the future. Growing up in a single family low income home came with many challenges. Mom made ends meet but at times we went without the things we felt were essential as kids. My sister was 2 years older than me
Health care administration provides a person with an opportunity to lead guide and manage in health systems. Health care administrators are not engaged in treating the patients in person, but they work actively behind the scenes making their best possible efforts for the betterment of the people. I got myself enrolled into this course because this was the only program that could challenge and bring the best in me refining my leadership, communication, administrative skills.
...e helped me overcome the obstacle of domestic violence. My will and motivation was to get an education, better myself, and become a strong and intelligent woman. I choose to view this unfortunate situation as a learning experience because I am stronger now and I will never go backwards.
Have you ever worked with a job that requires driving a diesel around? Like sometimes it goes “ RaaaaaaaRaRaRaaaaaaaa”. The first time I saw him I wasn’t sure if work will be hard and difficult because he didn't seem the most happiest or the most energetic person. But he had Blonde hair, blue eyes. About 6 foot tall. Pretty much the same body type as me but little more on the heavy side. He wore a pair of black boots that looked good enough for work boots and that will hold out for at least 3 years. He had a pair of white oaks that he doesn't admit wearing them. Of course he had to wear jeans and our official shirts and hats to work. I been told later he has been working there for t least a month since i was gone for school. Outside was warm and I already had some work in, the
I was devastated. I wanted that position more than anything, and to not earn it left me in a melancholy mood. However, I picked myself up, worked twenty times harder, and to my surprise, earned the position my junior year. From this, I learned to always put 200% into everything I do, no matter how important, how to handle myself when I fail at what I’m passionate about, and to always improve from my previous performance.
As I sit here and reflect on how my education and work life experiences have prepared me for my future in the workplace; I truly become overwhelmed by the amount of things that I have learned and experienced. Like many others these experiences has influenced, motivated, and driven me to make the choices I have made. The good, the bad and the ugliest of them all have helped me to become the person that I am today.
There are numerous lessons that I have learned from life, they were lessons that I learned from good and bad experiences in life. Different experiences from school and out of school that has made me the way I am today. There is a long list of experiences that in reality did not teach me much.
