After completing “What is My Big Five Personality Profile” I was not surprised at all by the results. The Big Five Personality Profile displays that I am approachable, generous, accommodating, and eager to compromise with fellow peers. It also shows how I am agreeable with folks and have a positive view of human nature. To me, individuals are truthful, decent, and dependable.
Emotional stability and agreeableness are my two traits that I consider to be my personality strengths. This permits me to remain calm, stable, and content. Furthermore, it retains my mind from continuously thinking of irrational scenarios and putting my mind into a mode of fear. I notice that when I am just sitting to myself that my mind is rarely busy or constantly thinking. I am always living moment to moment. This helps me from experiencing negative counterproductive emotions. My agreeableness permits me the aptitude to be empathetic toward others. My current position as senior team lead acts as liaison between staff and management. Many times staff are fearful of management and possible repercussions should they approach them with any issues or concerns, so they confide in me. My approachable personality makes it possible for staff to air out issues to me, and I am then able to present the issue and solutions to management. It’s a win-win situation. My emotional stability allows me to remain calm and stable. Additionally, it keeps my mind from constantly thinking of worse possible scenarios to any given situation and free from negative emotions. The Big Five is currently the most accepted personality model in the scientific community. The Big Five emerged from the work of multiple independent scientists/researchers starting in the 1950s who using different techniques obtained similar results. Those results were that there are five distinct personality traits/dimensions. Here are your results on each dimension:
“The Five Factor Model provides a compelling framework for building personality measures that seek to represent the domain of individual terms broadly and systematically” (Briggs, 1989 as cited in McAdams. DP, 1992, p. 332). The FFM consists of five factors (The ‘Big Five’). They are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. When measured individuals can range from extremes on each of these traits.
These scales are commonly alternatively represented by the OCEAN acronym Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion/Introversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. The Big Five structure captures, at a broad level of abstraction, commonalities among most of the existing systems of personality description, and provides an integrative descriptive model for personality research. Who I think I am? I’m not exactly sure who I think I am or how to describe who I think I am. I tend to act differently around certain people. Constantly changing to try to seek approval. Constantly in fear of accidentally doing something wrong; that I might say something wrong and all my friends will abandon me or leave me for someone better. I think this fear came from when my best friend was taken from me. I had known her since preschool, but she had met another girl and she stopped talking to me completely. I’m in constant fear that this will happen to me again, so I struggle to be accepted. I don’t want to be forgotten again.
The Big Five Theory is a useful tool to create a personality profile for a particular individual. By analysing a person using The Big Five Traits of extraversion, openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness and neuroticism one can determine an individual’s basic personality profile.
In the vast and detailed world of psychology, there are a variety of different tests you can participate in. For example, you can participate in aptitude, verbal or numerical reasoning, and psychometric tests. These tests assess on a variety of different situations such as: behaviors, abilities and intelligence. Personality tests, a common and favored test, measure things such as: behavioral style, opinions, motivators, personal values and career interests. Most often, people complain or disagree with the score of some areas on their personality test; however, there are no right or wrong answers. After completing this personality test and reviewing the results, I found that the overall scoring accurately described me in most areas. The Big Five Personality test scores in five different areas involving openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism.
Personality is massive part of an individual’s identity. Our personalities dictate our patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting. An individual’s personality exposes them to predispositions and habits that influence their actions and lives. Early on, personality assessments consisted of physical features ranging from head shape and facial characteristics to body type. In today’s world, personality assessments are mainly based around traits. Traits are simply descriptions of one’s habitual patterns of behavior, thought and emotion. The most popular personality assessment is the Five-Factor Model, also known as The Big Five. This model allows us to describe people based on the five main traits/dimensions. These traits are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Each of these five traits measures a different aspect of one’s personality. Extraversion is based on one’s level of engagement with the world,
Extraversion is the tendency to experience positive emotions and moods and feel good about oneself and the rest of the world. Managers who are big on extraversion tend to be more sociable, affectionate, outgoing and friendly. The managers who are not vulnerable to this trait tend to be less prone toward social interactions and have a more negative outlook on situations. Negative affectivity is the tendency to experience negative emotions and moods, feel distressed, and are critical on themselves and others. Managers who are high in this trait can often feel angry and dissatisfied. They tend to often complain about their work and others lack of progress. Managers who are not so high on this trait tend to be less pessimistic about themselves and others. Agreeableness is the tendency to get along with others or pleasing to ones’ liking. People who lean more on this trait are prone to be affectionate and care about other people. Managers who are low on this trait tend to be distrustful to others and even sometimes aggressive. Conscientiousness is the tendency to be careful, scrupulous and preserving. Managers whom possess a high tendency of this trait are organized and self-disciplined and those whom possess a low tendency of this trait might sometimes appear to lack direction or self-discipline.
The Big Five is the most widely accepted and used model of personality. The model consists of broad dimensions of personality traits. These dimensions are: Openness to Experience/Intellect, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. Upon completion of the Big Five Personality test, my results were somewhat surprising to me. Overall, I scored on the low end for Openness to Experience/Intellect, Extraversion and Neuroticism dimensions and on the high end for Conscientiousness and Agreeableness dimensions.
After completing the assessment exercise I have been able to carefully my personality. The exercise consisted of an evaluation of four areas: Locus of Control, Personality Type, Stress Reactions, and Learning Styles.
People with good nature are always welcomed in the organization. Agreeableness is one of the big 5 personality. It’s not the just the word which an individual use in his daily conversation. This reflects the nature, gesture of an individual. Agreeableness is my 2nd highest trait. I believe in working in an environment, where people work together. They think about the company interest prior their self-interest. In a workplace with full of competition, it can refresh to be around people who are easy to get along with. Agreeableness may be seen as a coin which has two face sides. Some people may admire my kind heart intention. But other would think I am the one who always avoids confrontation which can reflect adversely. But I think there would be some people like me in an organization who believe in agreeableness, which avoids arguments, harsh statements and thinks for the group rather than being selfish. I got 74 percentile in extraversion that means I am a socialize person. That doesn’t mean that a person with the quality of introversion are less socialize or they don’t like to
Throughout this group project, I had an opportunity to observe and reflect how my personality traits contributed to and hindered the success of the team. According to the Big Five Model, I identify myself as low on extroversion, moderate on neuroticism as well as openness and high on agreeableness and conscientiousness.
I am sentimental, out-going, indecisive, understanding, curious, naive, lazy, and young. I want to be ... , well a lot of things, and growing is discovering what they are. I feel people cannot see the potential within, although there is no one to blame but myself. I look to others for approval instead of to myself. I aim to please; it leads to approval. I don’t like to discuss my faults; I pity myself.
I believe I have the capacity to maintain work stress and stay positive. It is because I am a positive thinker. From my experience, when I was perceiving inequity or facing stresses from work, I tried to restore equity by extra effort and stay focused on my goal. Therefore, these personality traits help me become a team player. Besides, I have high ethical standards which drives me to embody integrity in my actions. Honesty, integrity are very important personality traits to managers because they have responsibility of financial stewardship. Managers who has high ethical standards are likely to establish a code of ethic to guide team members’ behavior and less likely to manipulate shareholders’ assets.
