I awoke to the loud purring of my cat. He was sitting on my chest. He always wakes me up in the morning weather I like it or not. “Hey Darth, today is the hog roast. Do you want to come, there will be ham?” He got up off my bed and and scampered to the door. I got up and groggily got out of bed to open the door for him. I put my hand on the cold metal handle. I opened the door and he bolted out. The hog roast was always fun. It was a big party with friends and family. We cook a big hog and do fun rides and a bounce house for the little kids. I always am in the barn with the horses. I walked over to my closet and noticed that my mom had placed a new pair of clothes on my dresser. I picked them up and put them on. I grabbed a pair of socks …show more content…
I could smell the BBQ sauce. Man my grandma is fast! She just finished a whole pot of BBQ sauce in 20 minutes! “Are we ready to get to work on the guacamole then the fruit salad.” “Yep” I replied. I walked over to the fridge and opened the big metal doors and grabbed the tomatoes, the onions, and and the avocados. My grandma's kitchen looked like a kitchen that you would see in a catalog. It had a new fridge and it had a gas stove. They have redone the kitchen twice and now it looks like a high tech food processing place from the futur. “ So have been thinking that I should come up with a new show name for Scout. I mean I like his show name he has now. But Don’t Doubt Scout just doesn't have the same ring to it like it use to. “ “ Yes but that has always been his show name Addy.” My grandma argued “ I get what you're saying but I came up with that when I was 9 I mean I am 12 now and I am on the equestrian team. We need to come up with a more sophisticated name for him. “ We didn’t talk for a while. It was kind of awkward being in the silence. “ Where is grandpa?” “ You know your grandfather Addy. He doesn't stop working till the the sun goes
“You know, nobody can ever cook as good as your mama.” These words were spoken by one of the most iconic Southern chefs of all time, Paula Deen. Not only has she formed a legacy with her countless cookbooks, magazines, and television programs, Deen also helps out by donating her wealth and continuing to fight poverty with foundations such as The Bag Lady Foundation. With Paula’s doll-blue eyes, down-to-earth cooking styles, strong love for her close-knit family, and recent controversies, Ms. Deen has undoubtedly become one of the best known chefs in this current generation.
George H. Morris has lived a long life full of learning, wins and loses. But he has gained so much through all of that to be the man he is today. He has become a very influential teacher and trainer to many equestrians including myself. To many he is just an older man but to equestrians he is the father of the
I arrived at my grandma’s house in bewilderment. The smell of flavored pork and freshly made red sauce wafted out of the windows and rose with the sound of laughter. The family was already there: all four of my aunts elbow deep into bowls of chicken, pork, sauces; my cousins and a couple of uncles with rolled up sleeves spreading
After what seemed like an eternity of rigorous tests and dealing with the painful longing of wanting to hold a precious baby of my own in my arms, it happened; my dreams at long last came true. I was pregnant! But something happened; I felt my world come crashing down. The thought of bringing another life into this world terrified me.
A calm crisp breeze circled my body as I sat emerged in my thoughts, hopes, and memories. The rough bark on which I sat reminded me of the rough road many people have traveled, only to end with something no one in human form can contemplate.
Yay!” I yelled, jumping out of bed. It was about 1:30 p.m on a warm, summer day. It was the day after we got home from Florida really late and that's why I slept in so late. “I bet I'm getting my new kitten,” I thought, but then I remembered we were not supposed to get him for another week.
When I was younger during hunting season my family would always shot deer during hunting season. While the kids were back at the house with grandma and Lori our job was to make food like potato soup or maybe chicken noodle, and moms almond pound cake with pudding for desserts as we wait for the phone to ring that one of them has shot a deer. I stayed home because it is too cold for young children to be outside. The phone would ring and it would be Mom, Dad, Grandpa or Uncle Tom saying that they got a deer. We would go up to the farm get the four wheelers and go track that deer.
Today is Tuesday, I was awakened by my brother leaning over me his cold fingers brushing over my unkempt hair, he whispered softly in my ear telling me to wake up.
I flopped on my bed and fell asleep instantly. . . . I woke up to the sound of the birds outside my window.
My morning always begins around seven o'clock when I am awakened by a sweet, gentle, little voice calling . . . "DADDY, I GO F'RIDE!" This is followed by a dainty smack of tiny lips on my cheek, then another smack of Mom's lips on my lips. A few minutes later, the front door slams shut and I slip back into a slumber. The next thing I hear (a few hours later) is the bloodcurdling, screaming caw of a pterodactyl about to swoop down and pluck me right out of my bed. Actually, it's only my alarm clock. I don't dare hit the snooze button, as I do not even want to hear that again.
Wake up dear there's someone on the phone to speak with you. I told the young man you were asleep but he insisted, it must be important.” It was grandmother shaking me. “What did you say his name was?” I whispered, my voice still rough, having just awoken.
Thumbs Out A girlfriend of mine once defended me to her father by saying, calmly, “Not everyone who wanders is lost.” The dad kicked me out of the house anyway. But the damage had been done. Not everyone who wanders is lost.
I woke up. At first I noticed nothing special, thought I got up early, and attempted to go back to sleep, but I couldn't. I had this frustrating itch on my arm, so I got up to open the lights and looked at it, only to find written on my arm " However long it takes, save us."
My dad turned on the stove and started his new bagel "creation.” Tired, I leaned agi, but super excited. It was nice to be able to cook on the first day, I could take my mind off of things. Like my worries about middle school. The fears looming above me, waiting. Cooking was an excellent distraction from that.
The entire family got together and it was always a last minute thing but no matter what was going on we all decide we would go up to County Park Lake to have family time. There would be my grandma and my Aunts and Uncles and their kids when we pulled up to the parking lot. Under the shade trees the women would be sitting trying to stay cool and the older men of the family stand around a grill they would be sitting up the charcoal pyramid to lite to start grilling the food while the kids where at the tot lot playing the equipment you could hear the laughter of the kids playing . Also the mean talking about which is the best way to grill. The women would be laughing at the guys arguing over which way was bett...
