Do I think it is okay to exploit the rules of a game? I think it is wrong, end of story. I have been with coaches who try everything possible to stretch the rules as far as they can before they can so called break the rules. I had a coach in high school who would always say if you are not cheating you’re not trying. At the time I thought nothing of it, although over time my time has changed. I always go through a process as I make decisions, if that’s in the heat of a game or in my office making the weakly practice schedule. I think is what I’m doing going to make the people around me pound? Will it make my former coaches proud? Am I setting the example that I would want to set. I attempted to relay these in every part of my day. I know I
often fail but, stretching the rules I believe is morally wrong. I would rather loose with dignity then loose in my opinion cheating. I attempt to relay this message to my athletes when they come up with comments. Just this last week one of my athletes said to me if you’re not cheating you’re not trying. I stopped practice and explained why some people think that, however, I don’t believe that. I described why I think it is wrong. I thought it was a great conversation and lasted about ten minutes then continued on to practice. Life lessons are taught one at a time, if my athletes didn’t agree with me that’s okay, but brining things up are the way we learn.
Cheating is a big deal in any situation. But when it comes to sports, it is one of the worst things to do because it diminishes the pureness of the game.
“Hello my name is Coach Ventura but you can call me Ace. So, we will be doing some drills for the next 3 days to a--.” My face broke out in red and I was speechless. I thought that there was only one day of tryouts. I calmed my nerves and gained back my composure. I refocused my hearing on the coach when she was in the middle of saying,” …--a number and go to your group.” I didn’t know the first part, but I joined into what everyone else was doing which was getting a duct tape number on the back of our shirts to determine what group we started out in and rotated to. As the tryouts went on I was feeling more
The coaches were feeling creative that day because they made us try all of these drills that the team has never done before. They were the kind of drills that did nothing to improve you at all, but the coaches thought differently. “This one will help you with your awareness of
In order to gain the competitive edge and the overall advantage, adjusting the rules to fit your benefit, is completely acceptable. The thought is that it’s only wrong if you get caught and that you are justified for cheating because of the end result (winning). Some examples of gamesmanship include adjusting / tampering with equipment, causing pain upon an opponent behind the referees back, lying about eligibility, and the use of performance enhancing drugs. Clearly if you tie the ideas of gamesmanship into the definition of ethics, the use of cheats and deceptions is morally and ethically
Coach Jason Harrod went to Gloversville schools so he can relate to my surroundings on a better level than most adults I speak with. Along with going to school in Gloversville, Harrod also played soccer for the school, which is another reason we connect a little better. During the summer workouts, Coach Harrod tends to pull me from the crowd and ensure I’m pushing to do everything to the best of my ability. If he notices anything off, he makes sure my health and mentality is all well. When he does said acts, he boosts my mentality and makes me push more than 100%. This makes me feel as if I have succeeded and that is the greatest feeling. The way my coach makes me feel after these small confrontations is how I aspire to
Personal interview. 27 Oct. 2013. Coffey, Delice. “Understanding Confidence.” Sports Psychology For Basketball.
Every athlete dreams of becoming the best player in their sport. For most athletes, this dream was created in their childhood watching their favorite player perform at great levels to achieve success. Most athletes will stop at anything to achieve success, even if that means breaking the rules. An athlete whether the biggest, fastest, or strongest, will always look for something that will give them and extra edge over everybody else, even if that means performance enhancing drugs. With new records being broken day by day, I believe performance-enhancing drugs should be legal in all professional sports.
Basketball for some people is their life. Mistakes made in the past fuel their drive for the future. Many professionals use this to motivate them. I’ve made mistakes on the court while playing that has, both, been for the better and or the worst. Playing defense effectively helps the team. But, like I have done, I’ve made decisions that have lost games. Playing sloppy or not playing at all. These mistakes haunt you. I've tried too hard too. Fouling and giving the other team a chance to win have driven me every year to get better. Most individuals will make mistakes in these situations, but only some learn from them.

the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports has been at the center of an international ethical debate for many years. Some professional athletes use steroids and other drugs to gain a competitive advantage in their sport. Such an advantage is generally considered by most athletic organizations to be cheating. In an effort to minimize the use of illegal supplements and other substances, drug tests are conducted frequently by most professional sports organizations.

The first time I laid my eyes on a football game, I knew that it could shape and form into a stronger person, not only physically but mentally as well. Furthermore, I dedicated my life to football, I watched and played the sport, I even learned some of my social skills from football, from confidence, to helping one another. I could reminisce the time my coach told me to be confident in how I perform, because that’s you improve, therefore, I went home thinking about the message he told me, and I brought
Gamesmanship is becoming a standard for high level athletics that is reaching towards younger generations. For youth sports confusion by players over how far to push rules can result in simply breaking them. Coaches need to make decisions to promote the greatest amount of sportsmanship while still teaching children the rules of a specific sport. For this reason the question of gamesmanship, winning while pushing the boundaries of the rules, in youth should gamesmanship be promoted or prohibited by the participants?
To cheat is to act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage. The use of performance –enhancing drugs in sports is morally wrong due to the fact that it is only a sign of cheating, impacts the future generation, and is deceiving to fellow audience. This goes against all the things sport fans theorize from athletes. People expect to see the individuals perform with the best of their abilities. It is what makes watching sports more interesting and creates competition. Performance enhancing drugs in sport should not be tolerated and should be illegal because it eliminates competition.
Every summer my family takes a trip to somewhere other than my hometown in boring ol’ Oklahoma. This particular year, 2012, we decided to go up north to Wyoming, U.S.A. Before this trip had occurred I had thought that Wyoming was a boring, flat state with nothing to do. When I got there, I realized I had been horribly wrong. It all started how most of our family vacations start, My Aunt Kim and Uncle Toby show up in the rental car (usually it was there personal car but this trip was a bit longer than usual) packed with all of their things. This particular time was early in the morning, about 7 o’clock to be exact, then the process of getting all of all of our things kicks into high gear. My brother Blake and I are frantically trying to get all of our things and our parents things into the car so we
