One of my earliest childhood memories was when I broke a bone. That was the second bone I had ever broken. Breaking a bone is one of the most painful things you will ever experience in life. When I was at school I broke my wrist. My friends and I were playing on the slide and I fell off into the dirt and landed on my wrist. When I heard “crack”, I knew something was wrong and needed to go tell the teacher. Holding my wrist I ran to Mrs.Kathy and told her that something was wrong with my wrist. We ran to the nurse because she thought it was severely damaged based on the way it was dangling. An ice pack was put on my wrist to control the swelling. My dad was given a phone phone call and was told that I had hurt my self on the playground. Rushing from work my dad was to coming get me and on the way he picked up my brother from high school, they later arrived at the elementary school. We hastily went to the emergency room because my wrist was getting sizeably larger. By the time we achieved our destination, my mom was waiting patiently for us. A nurse with brunette hair asked me to get in a wheelchair; she rushed me to the back because she noticed my wrist turning blue and purple. A RN took me to x-ray …show more content…
I was taken into the operating room where I seen five or six nurses and two of them had strange objects in their hands. I was told to lay back on these cold white sheets; when I looked up I saw the most intense light ever! After looking at the light for a minute it almost blinded me. One of the nurses put a tube in my nose, yet I quickly tugged it out because it was a foreign object to me. I was informed it would help me breath while the doctors were performing the surgery. The anesthesiologist gave me anesthesia, a medicine that is induced before surgical operations so you will have insensitivity to pain. The entire surgery took about one hour to
I’m actually kind of shocked I could write about recovery because it is a topic with a special meaning to myself. But, I found it easier to write about my own experience with a negative event this time, and I believe it is because I grew as a writer. I saw the value the personal testimony adds to a piece, and thus I could add my own story.
I've always liked Fall. I like the falling leaves and warm spice drinks and chilly air and nice sweaters and the generally spooky vibes. Fall is a good time for me. Nothing beats it, not even the summer. The most important part, though, is Halloween. Halloween cotumes, loads of spooky-themed candy, costume parties, scary movies, everthing about it was something I looked forward to all year.
In the past, I’ve made numerous mistakes. They all were very similar, most of them being related to school, sports, friendships, or even as simple as arguing with a parent. Although I had many, and learned quite a few lessons from them, most of these mistakes were not life changing. I would usually just be grounded by a parent, or get half credit on the homework because I didn’t do it correctly. Those mistakes were not as grand, or complex, or painful as my favorite mistake. I hadn’t realized until I reflected on the event, but my favorite mistake was when I broke my collarbone playing flag football in sixth grade.
Dr. Wright asked me if I was okay, and not wanting to say that I wasn't, I answered yes. My body started to shake, and I felt like I was in an icebox. I have never been so scared in my whole life, and fear covered me like a thick heavy blanket. The nurses strapped both of my arms down so that I wouldn't move, and an oxygen mask was placed over my nose and mouth. A green sheet was raised high, and positioned in front of me to conceal me from surgery. The anesthesiologist issued me more anesthesia, and I felt a cold rush as is dispersed throughout my body. I don't know if it was my nerves or the way the mask that was placed on my face, but I could hardly breathe correctly. I felt like my fear of dying was coming true, but I wasn't going to go without a fight. I could not get the energy to mutter any words to let the nurses know that I could not breathe, so I started to wiggle my nose and mouth to position the oxygen mask away from my face. Since all of the healthcare professionals were positioned on the other side of the green sheet, they didn't notice what I was doing. Breathing deeply, I relaxed as I could finally breathe normally with the oxygen mask on the side of my face. I was alone in that room, and I had no idea what they were doing to me. I prayed what seemed like 15 prayers for it to be over, and be able to see Kai already. Suddenly, I heard a faint whimper and a rush of footsteps. I looked around trying to get a glimpse of what was happening. A minute later I see this beautiful, flushed faced little baby being placed in my view by his father and every negative emotion left my body. The noise in the room fell silent, and it was just him and I. I was in love, and I could not stop smiling. I lifted my arms to hold him, forgetting that I was still strapped down. I continued to stare into his angelic face with joy, and I vowed that no harm will ever come to my son. Randy
"Selena Gibson" the nurse called out after opening the closed door. I stood up and quickly moved forward toward the nurse. Stepping through the door I was ask to turn to the right and go down the hallway. Walking down the long stretch dragging my feet along the way I was scared to find out what the doctor was going to say. Turning to the left the room looked impersonal and cold. I was asked to seat in the chair and wait till the doctor came in with the results.
It was Wednesday and only the second week of my internship in the emergency room and I was not expecting a particularly hectic day. Wednesday mornings were comparatively easier than Mondays and I mostly waited until I was needed. As I was walking and double checking to see if the hospital rooms were prepped and ready, a nurse ran by me and quickly said something to me. I could not make out the words but when I saw her beckoning me to one of the trauma rooms. The EMT and the doctor were busy with a newly arrived patient, so I ran over. On the bed was an elderly man, whose nose was gushing blood. The nurse and the doctor were hard at work with the man and his son, trying multiple ways to stop the bleeding. Various terms were thrown out and the son explained to his father what was going to happen. The nurse pointed out the chair behind me in case I felt queasy and needed to sit down. I remembered how scared of needles I was when I was a kid and how I dreaded getting my blood drawn. Standing in that room reminded me of how much I
I was optimistic for the future and I believed that with some hard training I would be back in shape and winning state in no time. It was a cold Sunday night and my family had just eaten. I walked outside to get some fresh air when my mom ran outside yelling, “The doctor called and your surgery got moved up to this Monday”. I stared at her in shock. I couldn’t believe they had moved it up from three months from now to tomorrow. “We have to be there at 5:00 so we have to get up early” she continued. We woke up the following morning and left immediately. We got there and we were rushed into Pre Op after some tests. I began a long process of poking and prodding as they got me ready. They even made an incision in my back that hurt like heck. They slid in a tube to administer nerve-blocking medicine similar to an epidural. Before long I was in the operating room with a doctor making a stupid joke. I remember him saying, “ What kind of bagel can fly. A plain bagel” I responded by saying, “That's a stupid joke” in a slurred voice as I passed
I was in 5th grade, and the most devastating thing ever had happened to me. It was a sunny may afternoon after a baseball game when my dad got a phone call from my coach. He had said that I and two other teammates were invited to the Willamette Valley all - star tryouts the next day. The tryouts would last 2 days. I was very excited and my parents were proud of me. My family has a long history in playing baseball and a lot of my cousins had made the all star team.
Even though she was clearly watching, I understood that she was just trying to keep me as calm as possible. I couldn’t even speak because I was in excruciating pain, along with tears running down my face. It was like a waterfall coming out of my eye sockets. It took me forever to get up, but by the time I had gotten up, the entire left side of my body was numb.
I remember when I thought I would never break a bone or dislocate anything. I thought this until October, 2014. I dislocated my knee in October. This dislocation led to the doctors learning more things that are wrong with my knees. After what happened I learned that no one is invincible. I was at a neighbor’s house for a party. Earlier that day I was playing a soccer game and I felt my knee move on me. While I was my neighbor’s house I decided to go on the trampoline. While I was jumping, I lost my balance and went to lean against the siding. Unfortunately, the zipper on the siding was not closed. I ended up falling through the siding and onto the ring that holds the trampoline together. I ended up dislocating my knee. Since I dislocated my
Traumatic events come in many different ways at many different times of ones life. Mine came on the school bus while I was on my way home from school. The bus had stopped to let a couple kids off and I stood up to throw some trash away. I stood up we were rear ended by a young lady who had been trying to get a bee out of the car and not realized the bus had stopped. I was standing up and the impact caused me to bang into the seat in front of me and the one behind me. I didn’t realize what had happened until moments later when someone said something. As I began to sit down I felt a sharp pain shoot through my body and my heart started to beat rapidly.
Let me just start out by saying that this is weird, mostly because I’m going to to attempt to write a story about my leg, which, let’s face it, isn’t that interesting. Granted I have to stand on it and I kind of depend on it for walking, but it is still just a leg. Even for a leg it kind of sucks at its job. For instance, last year around February I had to give this big speech (and by big I mean huge, like 1000 people huge) and I stood up in front of all these people and my leg just wouldn’t stop shaking. By shaking, I mean violently shivering from the relentless stares of people I didn’t know. At the time I was worried that I might fall over or trip, but luckily I spared my humiliation for another day. The thing I learned that day is not
This event greatly affected me, both emotionally and physically. My dad was in the hospital in a lot of pain because he shattered the two most painful bones to break and I could not go see him because of my work schedule and because I had to watch my sister. Finally, after four long days I saw him. Even though he is my dad, I must say he was a mess. He could not move at all, and when he tried to he was in a lot of pain.
Having your parent get really hurt, with you being the only one to help, can be an extremely scary experience. One of the most frightening moments I have ever encountered was watching my dad saw off his thumb off. While building our new home, he continuously found new ways to injure himself, but it had never been this bad before. The sight of my dad cutting off his thumb was horrific and the ride there was just as terrifying. Though at the time, what I did not know was that this experience might have led me to the career path I am pursuing today.
It was dark that night, I was nervous that this dreadful day was going to get worse. Sunday, October 23, 1998 I wanted to start writing this to tell about the weird things i’m starting to see in this new neighborhood. Gradually I keep seeing pots and pans on the sink suddenly move to the floor. I would ask my sister but she is out with my mom and dad getting the Halloween costumes. When they got home I didn’t tell them what I saw because i've seen Halloween movies and I have to have dissimulation otherwise the ghost will come out and get me first. October 24, 1998 I think I got a little nervous yesterday with the whole ghost thing. 12:32pm, Went to eat lunch with the family today and I go to get my coat. I heard the words furious and madness,
