Personal narration: the movement that transformed my life After reviewing my life, I decided that the decisive moment of my life was when my family and I moved to the United States from Puerto Rico. I think this was a great change in my life, because I not only left behind my home, my family, but also my memories and everything that I considered that made me happy. When I was seven years old, my parents made the decision to move from Puerto Rico to the United States in search of a better life. This change of country was the beginning of a completely new life for me. First of all, I had to separate from my family. Being away from my family has been a great sacrifice, because we were always a united family. Every day that passes I realize
how much I miss them, so I try to keep in touch with them, because when I can hear their voices I feel better. Another important part of my life are my memories. Although my family is large, we always had an excuse to meet and spend time together. One of the activities he most enjoyed was the celebration of January 6. That day my aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandparents, cousins, all of us gathered to celebrate the tradition of the three wise men. This was a day full of surprises, games and a delicious meal. I also have good memories of my first school in Puerto Rico. In the Montessori school. I met my first friends, Daniel and Alexander. Another important memory was my first participation in the talent show, I was in Pk. I was so excited to receive applause that I did not want to leave the stage. My grandmother grabbed one of my hands to get me out. In first grade we won the first place and the best costume prize. In second grade, we obtained the second place. Finally, my new one in the United States. When I first arrived in Florida, I studied at Griffin Eagle Elementary. When I started at that school, I did not speak or understand any English. I had a translator to help me. But I took my time to learn English. First, listen to other children when they spoke to try to understand the language. Also listening to Minecraft songs to learn new words. Little by little I learned a little each day until I started interacting with other children. I remember that Mrs. Dobson, my third grade teacher and the translator Ms. Joslin, helped me a lot. Both had a lot of patience in the process.
Since my father remained in Haiti while we made our home here in the states, by the time I was in my late teens I soon realized that I was the leader of my family. The apartment complex where we lived was increasingly becoming unsafe and it was very clear that I had to move us out of that environment into a safer one. I worked hard and saved up and when I was 23 years old I was fortunate enough to have my first major accomplishment by purchasing my own house where I moved in my mother, my 3 sisters, my younger brother, and occasionally my father. It made me feel good that I could provide a safer living environment for my entire family.
After reviewing my life, I have decided my life defining moment was when my family and I moved to Texas from Oklahoma. I consider this move my life changing moment because it changed so many things in my life. This move set the stage for an entirely new life for me. Moving six hours away from the only home I knew certainly called for many changes.
In conclusion, my recently experience was when my family and me decides to moved to the United States. It was a tremendous change moved to another country. Moving to another country is giving us an opportunity about different language, meet new people, better jobs and great education. This experience maybe was harmful and difficult for all the family, but if we moved for better life, it could be an excellent opportunity for our future. To sum up, now we enjoying living here, my parents have a good job and my brothers and me study at great school.

As I boarded the plane to move to the United States, the beginning of September 2005, I couldn’t help but think about all that I left behind; My family, my friends, my school, my clothes, and all of the awesome cultural food. Then again, I looked forward to this new life, a new beginning. I imagined it being like life in the movies, where everything seemed easy and life was just beautiful. Despite only being 14 years old, I feel as if I have had quite a bit of defining moments in my life. I was just over two years old when my first huge defining moment occurred. My family originated from Sri Lanka and I was born there as well, unfortunately, during the time Sri Lanka was undergoing a civil war. My parents were afraid that if we stayed, our family wouldn’t come out unscathed and as a result, they decided to immigrate to Canada. The choice to move to Canada in the early 2002’s wasn’t a difficult decision as a lot of my family members were already there and thus made our transition a whole lot easier. Immigrating here has been a major defining moment as without it I most likely wouldn’t be the same person I am today. In addition,
It is through the events in the journey of life that shapes and molds who we are as people. As for me, immigrating to America was one of those milestones that have shaped who I am. Those who have had the opportunity of moving from a different country to America know what a privilege it is. I felt the same honor to know that I would be journeying to the land of opportunity. Without hesitance, I spent the last two months packing and making the final preparations before moving to a new continent. Although it was a bittersweet time, leaving my beloved family behind, I knew that I couldn’t resist the treasure that waited for me in the new land. Coming from a developing nation the high level of sophistication that greeted me on arrival to America made feel like I was in paradise.
My mom decided to leave Puerto Rico because, there were too many problems economically I was ten at the time. When my mom told me and my brother that we were leaving I was pretty excited, just think about it live in a new place, it’s a four seasonal weather, and a new language. I could not think of anything going bad, I was very positive and supportive to the new change I was going to have. When we arrived everything was going well, I was
This journey taught me so much that I wouldn’t have ever imagined. I grew from this experience mentally and I saw my parents becoming closer and regaining that bond they held with one another. This event taught me to be more appreciative with all the little things I have and made me realize that life isn’t going to go the way you want it to; you have to fight for the path to lead you in the right direction. I was brought closer to both my parents and my brothers. This event started new beginnings for this family, a new start to get things right because when I found out I would be moving to San Diego, I never would have realized the struggles I went through; especially when I was a silent voice in the decision.
One moment—that’s all it takes for your entire world to change. My mom had decided that she, my sister and I would move to Mexico. This change meant I would have to adjust to a new school, make new friends, and acclimate myself to an entirely different culture. The United States was all I knew. As a result of that experience, I grew in many ways that I was not able to anticipate before we began this journey, but which helped make me the person I am today. I learned valuable lessons living in Mexico. Living in another country taught me that once I opened myself up to change, I could embrace a whole new set of experiences I might not have had otherwise. As a result, I have become a more creative individual with a broader perspective - one who can think outside the
Almost two years ago, around mid-February of 2014, I came to this country. My journey from my country to the United States was quite an experience that I would never forget.
