One moment—that’s all it takes for your entire world to change. My mom had decided that she, my sister and I would move to Mexico. This change meant I would have to adjust to a new school, make new friends, and acclimate myself to an entirely different culture. The United States was all I knew. As a result of that experience, I grew in many ways that I was not able to anticipate before we began this journey, but which helped make me the person I am today. I learned valuable lessons living in Mexico. Living in another country taught me that once I opened myself up to change, I could embrace a whole new set of experiences I might not have had otherwise. As a result, I have become a more creative individual with a broader perspective - one who can think outside the …show more content…
I intend on applying to the Advertising and Marketing Communications program because it has been an interest of mine ever since I first started taking courses at FIT. The fact that someone's idea could influence and persuade a consumer to purchase an item intrigues me. I'm currently enrolled in the Digital and Interactive Marketing course for Fall Live with Professor Azoulay, and this has by far been my favorite class I have taken because it has opened my eyes on how marketing is present everywhere and in demand. After receiving my AAS degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications, I want to further my education in International Trade and Marketing for the Fashion Industries. My Passport to International Fashion class had a field trip to WGSN, where I learned more about the fashion and creative industries. This was when I knew I wanted to navigate the complex global marketplace, and what better place to do so than The Fashion Institute of Technology! I trust that FIT will push me beyond my boundaries, and make me earn my way to success, just as it is in the real

Everyone has had that one moment, or maybe a couple. The moment when their life changes forever, the moments when they know they will never be the same person they were yesterday. These moments are turning points that play a large role in a person’s identity.
Within the United States there is a huge diversity of cultures. Culture is many different things, it is a tradition, it is the values and beliefs passed down from generation to generation, and culture is the identity of any country. Culture helps to identify one cultural group from the other. Although we may live in the same country, city, or state we still differ from one another by the way we dress, our beliefs, language, traditions, music, art, food, religion, and politics.
Life changes in matter of seconds. Imagine waking up to news of moving to a different country as an innocent young child, leaving friends and family behind and moving to a country thousands of miles away. I can still remember how terrified I was of leaving my homeland and coming to a new, different environment. Going to a place where I had no friends or family was the hardest thing ever. My friends and family members were very upset and they were crying because I was leaving. I was trying to be strong and hold back my tears. I had no choice of staying or leaving because I was only 11 years old and I had to leave with my parents. They had to leave the country because they owned a clothing store and it was no longer performing like it used to. They wanted to leave Egypt and live the American dream. My life went through a complete change because I moved to a new country, had to adapt to a new culture, learn a new language.
Life is full of experiences and exploration. In life everyone have something that has changed the way they recognize things. Most things change a person’s perception because of the experience they had in the past. I never imagined that my life would ever change. Being born in a different country and end up in a different place could be very hard and frustrating.
When I was assigned to write a paper about a moment, event, or even person, in my life that altered its course forever, ideas started to instantly pop into my head. The divorce of my parents, graduating high school, moving away and going to college; the choices were abundant. However, after giving it some further thought I realized that all of these other impactful moments in my life were in some way connected to, and to a certain extent even caused by, when I moved to America from Guatemala.
People have to cross many types of borders to change their life directions. Some people struggle to maintain their behaviour and also their personalities. Other people fight against nature to change their attitude as well as their way of thinking. The border I was crossing was the behavioural change as well as the language boundaries. It left a big mark on the person I am in the present day. I changed myself from laziness and not self-conscious to having a good moral also from getting low grade to high grade in school.
There are many changes that can happen in a person’s life. Some changes are very tiny and would not affect my life very much. When I first arrived in this country, I realized that a tremendous transformation would happen in my life both physically and mentally. After spending more than eight months in the United States, I firmly believe that moving to the United States is a beneficial change for me.
My whole life has been transformed. I wake each morning and am thankful I have one more day to create a beautiful memory, and take on a new challenge.
The moment of awareness that made me change my opinion on the world was during my deployment to Kuwait. I realized that there is so much that I take for granted every day without even realizing it. I also realized in that moment that we are so lucky to have the opportunities we do in the United States since not everyone is lucky enough to have them. There are so many great things that we have in America that other countries would be lucky to have.
It is through the events in the journey of life that shapes and molds who we are as people. As for me, immigrating to America was one of those milestones that have shaped who I am. Those who have had the opportunity of moving from a different country to America know what a privilege it is. I felt the same honor to know that I would be journeying to the land of opportunity. Without hesitance, I spent the last two months packing and making the final preparations before moving to a new continent. Although it was a bittersweet time, leaving my beloved family behind, I knew that I couldn’t resist the treasure that waited for me in the new land. Coming from a developing nation the high level of sophistication that greeted me on arrival to America made feel like I was in paradise.
...ings within the fashion industry. My dream is to become a Fashion Event Coordinator/Producer and I would love to own a boutique selling my own line along with other independent designer labels. I want to support the hard work of great designers that are not as mainstream and renowned but deserve the credit for great craftsmanship and talent. I want to do what I love and I know FIT will not only give me the extensive education I need to progress, but it will also put me inside of a community that is diverse in cultures and talents that will give me the competitiveness, atmosphere and challenge I need to successfully apply myself. I am a great candidate for FIT because I have no space for error. I have my eye set on a goal and I plan on achieving it with at high statures. I would love to wear the name of FIT and let the world know that FIT helped cultivate my career.
A major turning point in life is finding the true person you are. There comes a time in life when you change as a person and you wish to be in a different environment. You may notice it yourself, or you may not. Never the less, it is going to occur whether you want it to or not. This can either happen drastically or slowly, and...
Finally, the movement to a divergent country, culture, and customs are valuable experience in my life for many reasons. The first value from this experience shaped me as autonomous person. For example, in the past I relied on my family on very thing, however, after this action I had a lot of knowledge to manage and control my life. Also, my family believes in my decision and my opinion more than before. Furthermore, I have ability to communicate with many people from many different countries after I had had this experience. Being in a new country opened my mind to many different cultures which helped me to build my communication skills. To illustrate this point, in my class, we have international students from China, Korea, America, Italy, and so on, so it allows me to communicate with many cultures and know about them.
It’s amazing how quickly time passes; something you look forward to soon becomes a memory. More specifically, it is amazing how fast two weeks can go by. Now it has been seven months since I took a Spanish class trip to Costa Rica. I never believed people could change their perspective on life in just two weeks, but it happened to me. Initially, as I sat there on the plane and looked out the window, all I saw was pitch black and panic hit me. I was on my way to a foreign country with no one but a few friends and chaperones to rely on. I had never been away from my parents for more than two days and now I was going to be away from them for two weeks.
