There are many instances in this journey we call life that darkness befalls the heart and soul of the journey man or woman. In those times, a light is needed so that you are able to see the path ahead. When that light comes in the form of a human being, you have a tendency to miss the light. Often after that person has left you , you feel a warmth that never existed before.
The person who has affected my life in a significant way, is someone I consider closer than a sister. Her name, Tamara. Every time I needed her she would appear like an angel out of nowhere. In a time where values and attitudes have changed, and self esteem is something that either is there or not, in a fast paced world, this friend found time to care and to share. She taught me how to love myself for the silliest reasons. She told me countless times to look at life as being apart of me and not myself as being a part of life. She allowed me to be myself in a world crowded with artificiality. “There is no one harder to please than yourself”, that was what she told me, and I took it to heart. She was the one who taught me to seek the smaller things in life, and appreciate them, not over look them as if they had no value. That is what this wonderful person taught me. In a time where the weak are often to left to be crushed, and the strong look on, this giant took the other path, and she dared to look on a dwarf, and call her “sister.”
I have long since moved from the stage where I was not sure of how to take life at face value, however, she still teaches me, about myself and about life. Whenever I think about what life was, and what life is now, I somehow feel a warmth that I’ve never felt before.
My whole life has been transformed. I wake each morning and am thankful I have one more day to create a beautiful memory, and take on a new challenge.
I never appreciated life as much as I could until Tamara entered my world, almost a broken one.

My relationship with my grandmother paved the way of my education, my faith, my success. Her understanding and unconditional love, as well as, faith in me along with my past experiences, helped shape my character today. I am currently a high school graduate, who was ranked number 4 in my class with a 3.79 G.P.A. Not to mention, on a full scholarship to college, and by the end of July have a total of eleven college credits before becoming an official freshman.
“I’ve pretty much come to terms with it. I wouldn’t change it. I really would not change it,” she said. “All the years of suffering—it has made me a stronger person. It has made me who I am and I can’t regret that.”
Living our busy lives no one else in the family could travel to Houston. Grandma was a strong woman. She could overcome anything and cancer was not going to defeat her. When she arrived at the hospital the doctors took a cat scan and figured out that she had stage four melanoma skin cancer. While my mother and grandma were at M.D. Anderson I was at home living a normal life just starting my first high school basketball season. Every night I worried about how she was doing not thinking about my school work or my athletics. A couple weeks later I called grandma and asked her how she was doing and she assured me that everything was going to be okay and that I should not worry about her. That’s how she lived. She never put herself first in any situation and family and friends were her main focus. Grandma would do anything to make her grandkids happy. I told my grandma I loved her and hung up the phone. The next day at school I looked up the percentage of people killed by melanoma skin cancer and the results were not good. One person dies of melanoma every 54 minutes. When I got home that evening I told my dad that I needed to be in Houston with my grandma. He said he didn’t think that he could make it happen with his busy schedule. I called my mom upset realizing that
My brother Jared has been an important aspect of my life since I was born. Jared has a disease called Crohns and since we found out he had this disease it has been hard for me to understand why he has this disease and why God allowed him to have this disease. But through it all, it grew me closer to God. And my brother, who was the one who was dealing with the hardest thing, was an example to me and taught me how to live my life for Christ.
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that is located anteriorly in the lower neck. It is an endocrine gland made of two vertically elongated lobes that are connected by the isthmus. Each lobe is between twelve and fifteen millimeters long. The thyroid is coated with a fine fibrous sheath and is surrounded by cartilage and muscles in the neck such as the sternomastoid muscle. Superior to the collarbone, the thyroid is situated next to the larynx and trachea. When swallowing, the thyroid moves because it is rigidly attached to the trachea.
while, being as he was rushing to Cooper Hospital to see my mother. At this
changed and that was her belief in me… because of her unconditional love I am the person that I am today… her reassurance and patience made all the difference.
Throughout life we come across many people, some who influence us in negative ways, and those who influence in good ways, often changing our complete outlook on life. For me, it took the struggle of one of my best friends to open my eyes. I only wish it wasn't too late to thank her.
I don’t know where I would be without my best friend. The person who keeps me sane when my family is driving me crazy, or the person who will stay up with me all night to support me when I have a last minute paper due in a class; I don’t know where I would be without that support. I found this support in my best friend, my sister from another father, Regina. Regina is an eccentric, overbearing, lover of all things natural type of girl. She lives life to the fullest and never backs down from a challenge. She is funny, full of whit and sharper than a tack fresh out of the box. Although it hasn’t always been a smooth road for us we still remain friends to this day.
In 1859 Henry Ward Beecher said, "the mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom." I believe that statement because of experiences I’ve had with my own mother. I have learned more about life from her than from my 15 years of schooling. Over the last 20 years my mother has taught me many valuable lessons just by being a living example of compassion, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She is an angel that has protected and carried me throughout life.
My sister is important to me in a numerous amount of ways. She has taught me to be truthful, kind and to never loose faith. Through her I’ve learned to have self-confidence in all that I do or I won’t limit to half of the things I am capable of. I am very thankful that she is a part of me because I know without her I wouldn’t be who I am today. She has helped mold me into the person I have become. I learn from her that making good choices is one of the most important things in life, no matter the situation. Every moment I have with ...
Many changes for the good and some were bad but, there were some learning experiences that help make me a better person. The events in my life, was dealing with the Birth and The Death of my first daughter.
Around the age of 6 my mom was hospitalized because she had extreme headaches, and that’s when she found out she had a tumor in her brain. She kept this a secret from me because she didn’t want to see me suffer more than what I already was. About a week after she found out the news of her tumor, my mom was obligated to tell me because she had to go to Florida to get surgery, since the hospitals in Peru did not have the proper equipment to do this surgery. After my mother broke the news to me, we both started crying. I did not know much about tumors, but I did know that it was a life threatening disease. The next day my mom and I went to the doctor to find out what procedure she should take to not put her life at risk. In that same appointment, we found out the pricy amount of the surgery. With my mom’s salary and all of our expenses, it was going to be impossible to pay for the operation, and my mom had to make the tough decision to postpone
Everyone has had accomplishments in their life, and behind those accomplishments is someone who has had an impact on their life. My mother is my greatest influence for several reasons. She supports me, and the decisions I make, showed me that success comes from hard work, she inspires me and taught me to always believe in myself.
