A short, heavyset lady in her mid-forties with a slight stench of cigarettes on her breath takes our order. Jorge, and I sit in the booth closest to the nearest exit door of an old-school 50's style diner. Pictures of Elvis Presley, Humphrey Bogart and James Dean decorate the velvet walls while music from the late great Buddy Holly plays on the speakers. It is a slow night at the diner, as only a few tables are occupied. I assume the customers are regulars at the diner as they yell back and forth from table to table, talking about the baseball game, something I don't eavesdrop in, for I have no interest in “Americas Pastime.” After our orders are taken, our waitress steps away from the booth and I can't help but notice how drained she looks, she appears to be lacking energy the way she drags her feet back into the kitchen. Maybe she clocked in a double shift, maybe she's just tired of working a dead-end job, or maybe she is just having a bad night. No matter what her problem is, her night is only going to …show more content…
I run non-stop until we approach our destination. I slow down once I spot our vehicle. I can see the sky turning light blue on the east, the sun must be getting ready to rise. As we get near my 97' Royal Blue Blazer, I get my keys out of my pocket to unlock the car, and once inside the vehicle I turn it on and sit patiently waiting for the engine to warm up. While we wait, Jorge pulls out a blunt and a lighter to light it- I don’t puff so I don’t partake. Out of respect for me, Jorge cracks his window to blow out his smoke. I turn the radio on and change the station to some modern tunes. After a few minutes of waiting, I shift my car into drive and steer off. As I navigate home, I think to myself what a lucky night with my homie, I then remind myself not to forget to add another blessing to my
Ehrenreich didn’t want to be a waitress any more than some waitresses, but she did it for her research. Ehrenreich once stated that, “Waitres sing is also something I’d like to avoid, because I remember it leaving me bone-tired when I was eighteen.” (13). Her first job was at Hearthside, a restaurant in Key West, Florida. She was hired as a waitress, starting at $2.43 plus tips. She worked the afternoon shift. Hearthside was being managed by a West Indian man by name of Phillip. The management wasn’t the best. They treated their employees disrespectfully. At an employee meeting, they were threatened by the management. Ehrenreich stated, “I have not been treated this way-lined up in the corridor, threatened with locker searches, peppered with carelessly aimed accusation-since junior high school” (24). When they were just standing around, the manager would give them extra work to do. According to Ehrenreich, “You start dragging out each little chore because if the manager on duty catches you in an idle moment, he will give you something far nastier to do. So I wipe, I clean, consolidate catsups bottles and recheck the cheesecake supply, even tour the tables to make sure the customer evaluation is standing perkily.” (22). They were hired at Hearthside to serve the customers. There are twenty-six tables in the whole restaurant. All the food must be placed on the food trays; small items were to be carried in a bowl, and no refills on the lemonade (1...
Ehrenreich understands that her current employment will not provide her with enough pay to live on. She interviews and is hired at another restaurant called Jerry’s. Unfortunately, Jerry’s is a train wreck. At this restaurant, Ehrenreich finds that the restaurant layout is deplorable. The kitchen of the...

On a rainy Monday, I had come to San Francisco to do a cuisine comparison, sort of a tour guide-cum-restaurant review, covering the soup kitchens that I remembered from my time in SF—my two years of living on the fringes. Those years seemed distant now—I am a university student, and I feel suddenly distant from my old days. I am hipper now, I thought. I felt the smugness of a wise-ass. I had thought before I made the trip: here’s a twist on the old restaurant review. I can talk about worn-out things: the bouquet of the food, the ambience of the place. How original. I had felt like slapping my own back.
It's Saturday night and I'm in my snug but not skin tight blue spaghetti strap floor length dark royal blue dress, all ready to go out to a very fancy restuarant. Old Country Buffet. As my friend and I climb out of my car in a classy like fashion, we realize that the line to Old COuntry Buffet is at least 50 meters long. "Oh My God." I say as my lipstick chalked lips fall to the floor. Glancing over at a fast-food pizza restaurant, my friend and I look at each other.
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
McDonald's and Fox's Diner are two of the restaurants in Lake City, Tennessee. But even though they both sell hamburgers in the same town, they don't have anything else in common. They cater to different types of customers, there is a noticeable difference in service speed, and every facet of doing business is handled differently. Even the atmosphere of these two places is in contrast.
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
Finally, I said to her “Hey! Just go wherever you want to eat, I’ll get something small.” If someone had to said this to me, it would happily end any group deliberation over food. Instead of reacting like I would, she let out an exasperated sigh as if I had delivered bad news. At this moment I felt lost on what to do. The first thing that came to my mind, was that she may feel reluctant to decide on food due to the social expectations Zimmerman details in her piece.
Some may say a hole in the wall, other may say the perfect restaurant. For me, it's the best of both. Tony’s Family Diner located 195 Franklin Blvd Cambridge, Ontario, has something good for everyone. Whether you're looking for a steak dinner or the perfect eggs benedict Tony's Family Diner offers it all.
One day I was mini golfing with my Uncle Bob, and my cousins Lucas and Chance at my Grandma and Pap’s RV camp. It was the first day I was there. My sister and I were dropped off. And that was the day that I was hit in the face by a golf club.
From the beginning of history to the modern day there have always been distant food trends. With that being said, foods and desserts have had a ginormous evolution amid the years. First and foremost, the 1950’s, also referred to as the Baby Boomers era, started a new way to eating. Their trend was fast food. All sorts of new speedy restaurants were created at this time allowing a new meaning to food.

I'm immediately seated, and I browse the thick green menu. There is a white tablecloth, and cutlery folded into the napkins. Scanning the menu, I see there is sandwiches, soups, coffee, and different pastries. Out of the corner of my eye I see, a young, beautiful, blonde waitress walking my direction. “Bonjoure! And welcome to my corner of France. My name is Alana, and I will be serving you today. What can I get you”, Alana smiles at me. I'm tounge tied, her beauty has distracted me, and I forgot what I was going to order. “Uh. Um. I,” is all I can get out of my scratchy throat. She looks down at me” forgive me. Were you not ready yet.” “Erm. Um. No Mame! I am ready. My apologies, I have had a long journey here.” She gets her notepad out, and clicks her pen. Alana blows a strand of hair out of her face, “ An American boy, you are far from home.” I smile and return my gaze too the menu, “Ha yes.” Alana opened her mouth, but a man shouts from across the restaurant “Alana, leave the poor man alone, and get him his lunch!” I can tell she is embarrassed, her cheeks turn a rose pink, she pushes hair behind her ears and mumbles “Right.” I look back at her “ I think the soup special and a crosaint will be nice” she chuckles and scribbles my order
