It is quite fortunate that I do not live in Seattle or Portland. As beautiful as those cities are and as much as I love visiting them, I could never tolerate the gray, cloudy weather. I've decided that fall is my least favorite season. I absolutely adore all the colors and the mild weather, but the time change, which causes it to become dark by 5:30pm and the gray skies, make me feel terribly blue! Avril came over today so we could work on Puck. We accomplished a great deal, but I spent the last hour with her crying on her proverbial, if not actual, shoulder. Why? Because it is mid November and I am absolutely dreading the holidays! Most years I dread the holidays simply because I hate all of the stress caused by the frenzied shopping,
Prompt: In 500 words or more, describe your collegiate experience thus far. How has this experience and the knowledge you've gained influenced what you plan to study? How have they influenced your decision to apply to St. Edward's?
When I was younger, the two holidays I looked forward to were always Thanksgiving and Christmas. This time of the year always is the happiest because everything feels so refreshing because I am spending quality time with the people I love most. When it comes to Thanksgiving and Christmas, I always seem to have the most memorable good and bad moments. These holidays have very different meanings but have the same feeling because it symbolizes, good food, good times with family and a whole lot of drama.
Christmas, I love Christmas, I love shopping for presents for my loved ones, thinking about the gifts I want to give, the wrapping and arranging them under the beautiful Christmas tree. I love the planning and preparing Christmas dinner, filling the house with wonderful fragrant smells hoping everyone comes and has a good time and still talking to each other when they leave. Most of all though, I love the Christmas tree, I love the excitement as the hunt begins for the perfect tree finally when everyone is in agreement we bring it home hoping it’s not too tall too short too fat or too skinny and most important stands up straight. Somehow it always fits and always looks beautiful, I am never disappointed and my tree is always perfect and beautiful.
Christmas is a special time of year that deserves to be remembered for its true meaning. Every year, Christmas becomes more and more commercialized and society forgets the origin of Christmas. It was not started with cookies, toys, and a fat man that delivers them, but instead it started with a humble inn where our Savior was born. The definition of Christmas is “a holiday on December 25 celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.” Nowhere in that definition does it say anything about the outrageous pressure society has set on consumers to buy, buy, buy during the Christmas season. Christmas is about presence not presents.
Holidays have always been known to affect our consumer culture for many years, but how it all began eludes many people and very few studies have been completed on it. Even though some say that the subject is too broad to precisely identify how holidays, especially Christmas, directly affect our market, I have found that people’s values, expectations and rituals related to holidays can cause an excessive amount of spending among our society. Most people are unaware that over the centuries holidays have become such a profitable time of year for industries that they now starting to promote gift ideas on an average of a month and a half ahead of actual holiday dates to meet consumer demands.
In fact, they have fun on the day because they love the atmosphere through Christmas songs and illuminations. Christmas is thought by many people to be the most wonderful time of the year. Winter snow, Christmas tree, decorations and Santa Claus are very important things which makes us happy and think that it is the most beautiful day of all the year. Everybody waits for the day because it has various meanings for different people. Moreover, they can see beautiful illuminations and listen to Christmas songs in cities or downtown. However, some adults who are parents need to spend money for buying many gifts for children. In the United States, parents generally purchase the gifts on a Black Friday. It is good for them to get their presents on the day because they more discounts on that day than other
Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
Christmas the holiday where you can not run from, because it is everywhere.
I just cannot believe it is almost Christmas time already. I could not be more ecstatic! Christmas is the best holiday for me and my family. My husband has three children Christian, Ethan, and Kayla. All three of the children live with us, as the biological mother is not involved. I raise them just like they are my own. Christian is the oldest child, and Kayla is the youngest child in the family. Christmas has always been a huge deal in my family, with the tree, the lights, and the music. We enjoy listening to Christmas music while engaging in the Christmas spirit. For us, the three most cherished joys of Christmas are putting up the tall luscious green Christmas tree, driving through the beaming display of Christmas lights, and the best part
These are my favorite things to do in fall. There is so much to do in the fall and its so nice to go do it because its just warm. First, I like the fall because of the warm temperatures. The warmness of fall is just amazing. I love being able to go outside and not have to deal with sweating to death or freezing my behind off.
The holiday season is the time of year families gather and laughs begin. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, the season brings anxiousness and wonder. To experience the holiday season is more than just gifts and stuffing a turkey. Festivities and gatherings galore, only a rare few celebrate the seasons in a cheery fashion. During the holidays I prefer the holiday fever, family gathering, and holiday food.
Holiday shopping, for me, is a nightmare because of the abundance of crowds, all of the fighting and competitiveness. I believe those last minute shoppers are the worst, they are the ones that are rude and impatient. For some people, with lots of patience, dealing with holiday shoppers is a good experience. For people like me, who has very little patience, it is a dreadful experience. Another aspect of shopping during the holidays is dealing with tired, overworked and frustrated employees. They are just trying to get their jobs done as quickly as possible, so they can go home to their families. Meanwhile, you have those employees that are cheerful and are eager to help the distraught shoppers. Also, during the holidays horrible accidents can occur often at this time of year. I am going to portray the dangers and mishaps that can occur during the holidays. I am not anti-holiday, but the older I get the more I don't have any desire to be exposed to all of the potential chaos.
Within a year we experience four seasonal weather changes. The seasons glide past throughout the year, bringing us different weather experiences and new scenery. Besides just the temperature, and change of land and ecosystems, we have the change of atmosphere and smell. Out of all four season, the one that puts me most at peace is the season of Fall. When autumn time comes around I look forward to the light jacket weather, the changes in colors and nature, and the celebrations that bring people together during the fall months.
But on a nice day in Seattle during the winter, it is rarely sunny, it’s cloudy and cold.
It is my favorite season and holiday of the year and it is best experienced in New York City. Back in my country, Turkey, we don 't celebrate Christmas but we do decorate the streets and our homes during New Year, but Christmas has a whole lot different feeling. Before I got to college, my dad used to drive us around towns in New Jersey during Christmas time and we would choose the best-decorated town or a home. In Jersey, some people go to the extremes of decorating their houses and you would only see a house that is made of lights. These lights would warm up the cold weather outside. It symbolized unity, family, and love. I always feel like everyone forgives each other at this time of the year, they call each other if they have not for a long time and sends each other cards and gives each other gifts. There is more to Christmas just decorations and gifts of course. The religious belief and the story of Jesus Christ should not be forgotten. Unfortunately, I also believe that this day was taken advantage of to boost up the economy. But on the other hand, it brings people together and closer. I like to walk by Rockefeller Center on Christmas day, not just because the big Christmas tree is there, but because the light shows and store window decorations take me back in time and make me feel like a kid on a wonderland. It is like
