Personal Narrative: A Day At The Tennis Court

Confidence – the full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing. The day I was handed my blue and black Babolat tennis racquet and was forced on the tennis court I knew it was where I belong. Every day I pick up my racquet and walk on the asphalt blue courts, I can’t help but to remember my days of glory- the days that were filled with screeches from my shoes sliding against the concrete. At the age of six, I had no idea what this sport was, but I knew I loved it. It was simple: hit the ball with the racquet onto the other side of the court. How I wish it were that simple! Once I moved to Arkansas I played my first tournament. I still remember it to this day- the bright shining sun, the crackling of the brown fragile leaves on the court, and the sweat-drenched tennis players hustling side to side on the courts. Never had I been so nervous. Once I found the sport, I competed in many more tournaments, reaching a rank of 29 in the south and becoming a 4-star tennis recruit. However, my journey peaked when I injured my shoulder by tearing the cartilage in my arm. That day I learned something so important that has changed my everyday life. With everything I do and work hard on, I try to believe I can do the task before I start. Confidence helps one to never stop trying. I will never stop competing to retain my ranking. Every moment since that day, when I step on to the tennis court, I remember my past prideful days and I hope to prove that I haven’t peaked, and my best day of tennis is in the future.
