The responsibilities and duties of a sports marketing representative obviously will fluctuate depending on what level of job is being sought after. Most sport marketers perform conventional advertising job tasks such as publicity, branding, product placement, and direct marketing to individuals. The main objective of a sports marketer is to promote their specific team, player, or company etc. in a way that facilitates a larger audience identifying with their brand. In sports, it’s all about the brand and a customer that will stay loyal to a certain brand is essential to marketability and most importantly, it’s these type of customers that are the most profitable. I enjoy sports more than any other hobby I have and it’s easy for me to stay invested in it because I’ve genuinely cared about sports my whole life, especially basketball. That’s why my plan is to try and work in an international basketball league or even better, the NBA. Canada, Turkey, Spain and many more countries are all up and coming basketball countries with leagues that aren’t yet fully ingrained into the community. Basketball is still a growing sport in many countries around the world, there are very few other countries where basketball is as popular as it is in North America. Even China, which is probably 2nd to us in terms of basketball competition and overall skill, is still extremely far from being as developed as we are with basketball. Ever since starting to play basketball when I was 9 in 3rd grade, it has grown into a real passion for me and I still play as often as I can to this day. Basketball is truly the sport I love and landing a position where I can be involved in basketball for the rest of my life is my ideal position. Lastly, a sports marketing career is fantastic for people who love to communicate with others and like a fast-paced work environment of which I love both.
