When one is proceeding through the journey of life and crossing the bridge of development, it is often noted that personality has a major influence on personal health. Sometimes, while searching for the perfect spouse or ideal home, one might get wrapped up in the adventure that life throws at them, and they do not realize the extent to which their personality, throughout their everyday lives, affects their health. This, therefore, creates an ideal space for scientists and psychologists across the world to study the impact of the various factors of personality on health. Some of the major factors that are commonly studied within Personality Psychology are the Big-Five
Over time, some aspects of personality change, whereas others remain stable. For example according to Costa and McCrae 's study on adult personality, in early adulthood, neuroticism decreases, openness to experience increases and in middle adulthood agreeableness increases.

There are many things that can alter the personality of an individual; some of these are voluntarily inflicted, while others are uncontrollable. Among the uncontrollable altercations, birth order is perhaps the largest influence on a person's disposition. Personality is influenced by the "place" a person has in their family as well as the family situation. It is important whether an individual is an only child, first born, second born, third born, a boy among girls, or a girl among boys, and so on.
My childhood was somewhat gloomy due to an alcoholic father; verbal and physical abuse was part of my upbringing. An event that I remember that shaped my life was when I failed the first grade. As a child I could perceive it, and these events helped to reinforce and mold future behaviors. During my teenage years I had much difficulty with love relationships even at times having inferiority complex after a breakup.
A small bit of historical information is in order to set the tone for this presentation. I was raised, as most young boys are, learning to read, write, and the other necessary evils of elementary education. My father was finally discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corp. and World War II, where he had been a Lt. Col., and taught the use of the Norden Bombsight to bombardiers and crews of the time. My early years were basically fun years, as I learned how to fish, shoot, hunt, about dogs, cats, and toys…many, many, toys. My mother believed in spoiling me, since I was the only child, and for eight years, I was the only object of me parents’ attention. In 1958, however, that situation changed forever, with the birth of my little brother, and three years later, my little sister arrived. These two events, little did I realize, would have a profound effect on my life. They would alter the way I felt about life, contribute to changes in my personality, and most of all, formed the basis for my later life in general, including my chosen profession.
Health and Aging Often we take our health, or the absence of illness, disease, or injury for granted until we become sick. It is then that we recognize the worth of being without ailments. It is then that we appreciate feeling strong, robust and healthy. Being healthy and, being physically and mentally sound, is associated with one's satisfaction with life.
What makes a person healthy? Surely, it is more than exercising and a proper diet. As a ten year-old girl, being healthy had one meaning to me; to eat all my vegetables and to be physically fit. I have chosen healthcare as a career because health does not only focus on the physical aspects of wellness, but it applies to all areas of wellness, such as, intellectual, social, spiritual, financial, occupational, environmental and emotional wellness.
healthy is a major component in ones’ overall wellbeing, more so mentally, but being healthy
Personality is the study of an individual’s unique and relatively stable patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving over time and across situations and it is what distinguishes one individual from another. In the past changes in personality were thought to have only occurred in the developmental stages of childhood and solidifies in adolescence. After the teenage years it was thought to be set like plaster or the change seen to be inconsequential or absent( Srivastava, John, Gosling, and Potter, 2003). However, recent studies have suggested that changes in personality traits continue to occur throughout an individual’s lifespan due to multiple reasons.
Health is described as physical and mental well-being and freedom from disease, pain or defect. However, such descriptions only superficially define the actual meaning of health. There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Health is a quality of life involving dynamic interaction and interdependence among the individual’s physical state, their mental and emotional reactions, and the social context in which the individual exists. There are many factors that influence your health, but three major components contribute to general well-being: Self-awareness, a balanced diet and, regular physical activity.
However, few studies focus solely on the plasticity of personality in the elderly, as they too are confronted by various life changes (Maiden, Peterson, & Caya, 1999). A longitudinal study conducted by Maiden, Peterson, & Caya (1999), is significant in measuring personality change among the elderly through a sample of elderly women, averaging eighty years old. Maiden, Peterson, & Caya (1999) hypothesized that personality change takes place predominantly in times when the conditions of one’s existence change dramatically, anticipating moderate change. Participants were sampled multiple times, revealing that as negative life changes were made, personality followed suit. For example, Maiden, Peterson, & Caya (1999) found that participants felt they were less extroverted when suffering poorer health. Likewise, participants indicated that nervousness and irritability intensified, also owing mainly to undesirable life changes. The conclusions drawn by Maiden, Peterson, & Caya (1999) allow the confirmation of their hypothesis. Therefore, the plasticity of an individual’s personality throughout their life, even in it’s final stages, is undeniably
