Humans are social by nature, and wherever socializing occur conflicts appear. Since the dawn of civilization, people started many systems and methods by which they judge things right or wrong. The primary goal was to guide them to do the correct things and avoid troubles. These methods and systems developed to become more complex and the importance of ethics evolved. Now people realize more than ever that their actions affect others and can have unintentional consequences. This is similar to the way my personal ethics developed. Growing up, I absorbed the knowledge from my surrounding environment and developed the necessary skills to make decisions.

It also helped me to understand some of the motives that might drive some people to behave unethically, especially in a business environment. This ethics course has also given me the chance to discuss many ethical dilemmas with other colleagues who are coming from different backgrounds. In our discussions, we shared different views of each issue, and experienced a number of methods people use in analyzing and processing such issues. I believe that I have strengthened my abilities and judgment to become more realistic in viewing ethical issues.

According to Willard (n.d.), the ethical body can be examined by evaluating the personality, actions, and character of an individual. My own ethical characteristics includes being honest, fair, compassionate, courageous, patient, and generous. These characteristics developed through learned behavior and actions that led to my current ethical body.

Ethics in business is a highly important concept, as it can affect a company’s profits, salaries paid to employees and CEOs, and public opinion, among many other aspects of a business. Ethics can be enforced by company policies and guidelines, set a precedent when a company is faced with an important decision, and are also evolving thanks to new technology and situations that arise due to technology usage. Businesses have a duty to maintain their ethical responsibilities and also to help their employees enforce these responsibilities in and out of the workplace. However, ethics and the foundation for them are not always black and white. There are many different ethical theories, however Utilitarianism, Kant’s Deontological ethics, and Virtue ethics are three of the most well known theories in existence. Each theory is distinct in that it has a different quality used to determine ethicality and allows for a person to choose which system of ethics works best with both the situation and his or her personal ethical preferences.
When speaking about morals and ethics, every single individual will have their own opinion. Some will agree with your own, and some may not. Yet, when being a social worker it is not what your ethics and morals stand for, but it is our code. Code speaking for the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) code that we follow and stand by helping any client with any kind of circumstance.
Ethical behavior is behavior that a person considers to be appropriate. A person’s moral principals are shaped from birth, and developed overtime throughout the person’s life. There are many factors that can influence what a person believes whats is right, or what is wrong. Some factors are a person’s family, religious beliefs, culture, and experiences. In business it is of great importance for an employee to understand how to act ethically to prevent a company from being sued, and receiving criticism from the public while bringing in profits for the company. (Mallor, Barnes, Bowers, & Langvardt, 2010) Business ethics is when ethical behavior is applied in an business environment, or by a business. There are many situations that can arise in which a person is experiencing an ethical dilemma. They have to choose between standing by their own personal ethical standards or to comply with their companies ethical standards. In some instances some have to choose whether to serve their own personal interests, or the interest of the company. In this essay I will be examining the financial events surrounding Bernie Madoff, and the events surrounding Enron.
In this essay, I will consider several popular articles and theories discussed by well-know philosopher and writers that will help me explain my decision to my counter group members. The scenario here is that I been asked to participate in an advisory panel for publishing company preparing a text book on “Professional Ethics and Ethics in the Workplace.” My task is to recommend that weather the next edition of the text should include a section addressing racism and discrimination in the work place. However, there are two opinions in the panel. Members of group A argue that racism is an ethical issue that should be included in the text. Group B argues that the racism should not be include in the text because “racism isn’t a problem anymore”
Ethics will have various effects on my personal and professional life. There are many different theories and principles that can be easily applied to my life. Four examples of these theories would be utilitarianism, virtue, deontology, and the golden rule. These theories will have differing sizes of impact in my life. Some may be harder to incorporate into my personal life compared to my professional life, others may only slightly change how I currently act in any given situation.
There is a very close relationship between ethics and values. Values can be described as convictions about what is good or desirable. Differences in people’s values are due to a variety of factors culture, religion, climate, social and economic status, personal experiences, age, gender and a host of other factors can all have an impact on our values. These differences lead to differences in ethical judgement that we typically find among people. Although they are closely related they cannot be equated to each other as our values don’t have to be ethical. This brings me onto my next point of.
To provide an example of a breach of ethical conduct in the workplace, we may remember the case of a financial manager in a corporation that decided not to pay overtime to some employees. After a deep outside investigation, the company was summoned with thousands of dollars to remedy the payment that was supposed to be paid to all employees who worked more than forty hours per week. Again, it is needed more than just a booklet stating that the company adheres to the code of business ethics. It is needed serious managers that can run the company with the most seriousness as possible. Consequently, any written codes of business ethics, regardless of how well it has been crafted, need people that adhere to its internal content with a serious desire to do the right thing.
Ethics is a word that can be used loosely, so it’s important to understand the meaning of this question by first discussing what is meant by personal ethics or professional ethics.
Ethics are the driving force behind good business. Every ethical choice made by a professional can and will have a much different outcome than any unethical choice. Bad ethics can ruin many aspects of a business and as (Gaye-Anderson, 2007) states how quite easily the lives and professional reputation of the employees can even be severally damaged (para. 3). Everything from morale to motivation can be severely affected by poor ethical choices. Customers will take their business elsewhere. Employees will abandon ship. Other, competing businesses reap the benefits of the bad moral choices. Ultimately, the entire business can be brought down by one poor ethical choice.
Prior to having the class of Professional Values and Ethics, I assumed I understood the basic concepts of what defines a professional who has competence of values and ethics. Nevertheless, by being enrolled in this course, I have gained great knowledge of which professional values and ethical principles must be held by a social worker, which I did not know before. Progressively in this class, by learning professional values and ethics, my motivation to succeed as an upcoming social worker has gotten stronger.
In the business world there are many fundamental aspects and situations that can lead to several issues. In order to find an optimal and professional solution, business decision makers need to apply moral and ethical standards. And it is at that moment in which business ethics perform its role. Business ethics, which is in charge of examine how companies and individuals should act in business situations, is very essential in order to reach a common agreement and to work within the laws of business and solve an arisen dilemma. Working of the hand of ethical business companies, employees, investors, directors, and even individual officers can be beneficiated and obtain most favorable outcomes.
