Personal Ethics Statement: An Ethical Body Allisa Bell Concordia University - Portland Personal Ethics Statement: An Ethical Body According to Willard (n.d.), the ethical body can be examined by evaluating the personality, actions, and character of an individual. My own ethical characteristics includes being honest, fair, compassionate, courageous, patient, and generous. These characteristics developed through learned behavior and actions that led to my current ethical body. The Ordinary Body I have overcome several physical challenges that have impacted my health which has led me to constantly educate myself and others of better ways to care for the body. To maintain an ethical body use, my actions need to constantly align with the betterment of myself and others. This means to have discipline to abide by the prescribed diet that will keep me healthy, maintain a body that allows me to interact with my family and community, taking time to rest and reflect, and having courage to challenge actions to ensure they are following an ethical body use. Bonhoeffer (1995) states “To allow the hungry man to remain hungry would be blasphemy against God and one’s neighbor, for what is nearest to God is precisely the need of one’s neighbor” (p. 136). This statement perfectly explains my view of how to constantly follow the ethical path. Rossy (2011) describes five main viewpoints that should be taken into consideration to remain ethical. Determining the short and long-term impact to myself and others, what my obligations to those around me are, what decision would lead to the greatest good, and what policies and rules apply, help me to maintain insight to the best ethical body use (Rossy,
