My hero inspired me to write this essay. She is one of Hollywood’s leading actresses, known for movies like Maleficent and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. My hero is Angelina Jolie. She is also a director, writer and producer of the film “ In the land of blood and honey ”. She is a very nice and caring person. Angelina Jolie has been an actress for more than thirty three years. In 1990, Jolie became a popular actress. She gave a star-making performance in the 1998 television film. In 2009, Jolie received an Oscar nomination for best actress for her role in Changeling film. When Jolie shoots a film, she often brings her characters’ stories into her real life. It is not that she becomes the character but it is that the character becomes her. Jolie is good at doing actress on her way. Another reason she is my hero is she loves to be a humanitarian. There are many humanitarian works that she has joined. Jolie first witnessed the effects of a humanitarian crisis while filming (2001) in war-torn Cambodia, an experience she later credited with having brought her a greater understanding of the world. She donated to an international UNHCR emergency appeal. Jolie was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador at UNHCR …show more content…
headquarters in Geneva on August 27, 2001. After that Jolie and Brad Pitt established the Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Foundation to support conservation work by the Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary. She has pushed for legislation to aid child immigrants and other vulnerable children in both the U.S. and developing nations. She also established the Jolie Legal Fellowship, a network of lawyers and attorneys who are sponsored to advocate the development of human rights in their countries. I think Jolie is a great person. She is doing good things to many people, her family, her children’s countries and many women. I often think about how lucky people are to have someone like her to stay close because she is a lovely women.
From my superstar’s story, I learn: ‘We come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.’ and ‘We have a choice about how we take what happens to us in our life and whether or not we allow it to turn us. We can become consumed by hate and darkness, or we're able to regain our humanity somehow, or come to terms with things and learn something about ourselves.’ If we could all be more like this, the world would be a beautiful place to live. Jolie make me feeling good every time when she helps another people, which does not expect something in return. So kindness. I really would love to do good and be such a half of

Who is your hero? Many of us can clearly picture our idea of our personal hero in our head, but is the person you consider to be a hero really a hero by definition? In Heroism: Why Heroes are Important, Scott LaBarge, a Classics and Philosophy Professor at Santa Clara University, awakens your thoughts on the word heroism and how it has changed since its origins in ancient Greece. Throughout his essay, he goes in depth into the term ‘hero’ and compares it to society’s take on heroes today. Although LaBarge uses examples to back up his stance that “Today, it is much harder to detach the concept of heroism from morality (LaBarge. 1),” his essay contains flaws and he contradicts his own words.
Recently, students of Olympian High School have stumbled upon the question, "What is a hero?" In the school's 2013 Young Minds Essay Contest, students are expected to consider universal concerns and ideas. Many times when people think of a hero, they think of Superman, Batman, and many other Marvel characters who display unattainable superpowers. However, heroes are prevalent throughout the world. A hero can be anyone who has the desire to help others, brave in dangerous situations, and does not look at exterior gain from helping others.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
In the genre of western films, the hero plays a key role. Humanity portrays civilization overcoming the hostile country (Miller 66). In many films the American civil war is over, and people have turned their attention to more constructive pursuits. Battling nature to progress America's future, rather than each other. In between this wild country, fraught with danger and corruption lies the role of the hero. A hero is an individual with exceptional skills and through his abilities is able to rid a stricken town of the corrupt elements within. In many cases however, the hero's skills are not enough. His relationship with the community can define how successful his help can be.
Heroes are found everywhere in the world. They are seen in movies, on television, in books, and in reality. A hero can be anyone, from a friend to a fictional character. To be considered a hero, one must make selfless sacrifices, develop and learn, overcome challenges and temptations, and ultimately present their known world with a gift of any kind. Homer’s
The word hero as defined as an “individual who has the courage of conviction to perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic spirit that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even sacrificing his own well-being or life.” (Harrison 2). Although heroes can come in any shape and size they are commonly found in stories we read, movies we watch, or people we look up to. We do not think about it much but even our own life is made up of many hero’s journeys. We never realize that our hardships and how we overcome them is exactly what a Hero’s Journey is about and why we relate to and enjoy these stories so much. I will be going into the depths of a Hero’s
Maya Angelou once remarked, “I think that a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people.” Depending on who the inquiry is posed to though, diverse answers may result from the question of, “what is a hero?” I believe that a hero is someone who inspires through their phenomenal precedents, benevolent behaviors, and possesses qualities not ordinarily seen in our culture. Angelou aspired to convey the idea that kindness and heroism are not mutually exclusive, but instead fit together effectively to produce the heroes held in high regard in our society. No matter what one might admire about a certain hero-- bravery, patience, or strength-- kindness lacks not in these traits, but rather encompasses them. For why
Joan of Arc Christopher Reeve once said “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Joan of Arc was a hero, because she was an ordinary girl who took down obstacles to be able to fight for France. Joan was a peasant girl, and in the eyes of men, she had little to no power. Men were declared superior, and women were declared inferior. Joan faced many struggles because of her gender and social class in the world of Medieval Europe.
When you think of hero’s who are the first people you think of are? Superman? Batman? Spiderman? Those would all be the common responses. Have you ever wondered “what is a hero?” A hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. “There are five qualities that truly heroic leaders have in common. Courage, selflessness, humility, patience, and caring” (Murphy)
When people visualize heroes, they visualize a person with superpowers, a prince or a king from a Disney movie, etc. Most of the familiar ones are fictional characters, but it can be anyone in this world. It can even be someone you haven’t even met. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t because it’s their actions and traits that count. I specify a hero as someone who is thoughtful, someone who never gives up, and someone who inspires other people. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, mostly known as Katy Perry, is thoughtful, never gave up, and inspired many. She is my hero.
Heroes, undeniably, are everywhere. The cashier at the local grocery store, the elderly man in the retirement home, and the homeless woman standing on the side of the road are all people that are already or have the potential to be heroes. While the title of hero has no correlation with one’s appearance, the internal qualities of someone are the main reasoning of whether or not they are worthy of the term heroic. A select few characteristics added together create these heroes. Practicing these virtues do not ensure that one is immediately a hero, but all of these combined in one person is a recipe for success for the person involved and all of the people that they affect in their lives daily. A hero has strength, values, and perseverance through
Heroes are often the protagonists in a story. Their journeys are crucial to a book or movie’s plot and purpose. Real-life heroes are even more so the center of attention. They inspire news stories, unified cheer, and even actions of heroism from other people. Regardless if a hero is real or fictional, his or her story can often involve several stages. Within those stages, these heroes reveal the characteristics that make them heroes. The fictional Beowulf was a classic Anglo-Saxon hero, and Amelia Earhart was a trailblazing female pilot from the 1930s. Although they are unlikely comparisons, both Beowulf and Amelia exhibited the necessary stages a classic hero endures, as both experienced the call to adventure, a road of trials, and a refusal to return.
There is another type of hero that almost no one is aware of. In the poorest areas of the country, live mostly minorities and other ethic background. All their lives they’ve been expected to work harder and expected not succeed in life. Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Escaping the crime, drugs, and prostitution is enough to escape hell, even if they don’t go to college. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday.
With celebrities all over the media, it is expected that some are idolized by their fans, especially the youths. There nothing wrong with people making celebrities their role models. Celebrity role models can be a positive influence by changing people’s lives and way of thinking for the better. On the other hand, when impressionable kids and teens see their celebrity role models do something that is not morally sound, they will come to think that it is acceptable making it more likely for them to do it. This raises the question: should celebrities be role models? For the most part no. Role models are people that are admired by others for their accomplishments and not their status; however, many celebrities
