The theme of “Self-Reliance” was developed in the novel Warriors Don’t Cry. Melba was an African-American girl that was part of the Little Rock Nine. She integrated into Central High school for better opportunities. However, she was mistreated and somewhat bullied in the school because of her race. She needed to rely on an army division called the 101st. Mainly; she relied on a soldier named Danny from the division. Danny followed her around in order to protect her from physical violence. After some time, Melba became very reliant on Danny. This can be seen when she writes, “Thank you Danny”, after every school day when Danny was there. She uses the trick her Grandma taught her of confusing the bully. The trick was to not,” …respond the way they expect you to.” After some time Melba learns to take...

I call that a door opening. A door’s going to open spontaneously, and you gotta run through it before it closes.” pg.90 Temple didn’t look as autism as a disability like most people did, she look at it as an advantage and she wouldn’t like living without it. “Autism gave her these special skills. ‘Autism’ she says, ‘is part of who I am.’”

I learned how valuable perseverance is because of video games. Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is one of my favorite games that has taught me the importance of this. In the past, I was never able to beat my friend, but I never gave up because of that loss. I continued to practice the game until I was eventually able to win. This transitioned over to the tournaments that I enter. Perseverance is what drives me to improve so that I can win. Video games are apart of me because they taught me to persevere in
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.

If it were not for her mother never giving up on her and motivating her to keep going she wouldn’t have gone to college, created the cow machine, or even learned how to talk. In the end, if it were not for her mother’s motivation she would not have gone on to do the great things she did.

For perseverance is constantly tested in trials and tribulations in abundance of adversity, calamity and catastrophe. But it is through only a strong and adamant mentality can perseverance be of any use, as without motivation, perseverance is merely paralyzed in a unhopeful void . But much like the water that slowly chips away at the stone, or the ice that gradually shatters the solid rock, perseverance acts the same. Like the trembling waters of the Colorado River bellowing through the Grand Canyon, perseverance screams through the predicaments and headaches that life has in store and burns through the barriers of conflict and confrontation. For whether you wear perseverance over your heart or on your arm, no matter who you are, perseverance is buried deeply within our core and is a unshifted behavior that enables even the most average of humans, to perform marvelous masterstrokes revolutionized in many aspects that will move even the most sturdiest of mountains and carve through the most impenetrable of

It was during this time that I began to understand how effective it was in driving someone towards a certain goal.
