"Without a struggle, there can be no progress" (Douglass). Without a struggle actions remain the same. The meaning of progress means to move forward. Nothing is given to you, you must strive and persevere to succeed. Mistakes are a sounding board that you grow and learn from. If you don't go through conflict or struggles, then how can you fix a problem? If you move forward from obstacles and difficulties you have perseverance. For example, David's story is a story of perseverance. In the story of David and Goliath, God needed a new king because Saul disobeyed him. God told Samuel to find a new king and his name was David. There were giants that lived on the land of the Philistines and the giants were a problem. One day a giant named
Goliath told the men to come and fight him. So David went and conquered him. Goliath attacked him and David reached into his pouch and pulled out a stone and put into his slingshot. Then, he shot the giant right between his eyes, and suddenly Goliath started to loose his balance. The giant fell on his face, and David became a hero to all the people of Israel. Another example is Jackie Robinson . When he started his baseball career he was basically at the bottom. All white citizens who were associated with MLB would not allow him to be on their team. Jackie fought off racism and hatred in order for him to become a professional baseball player. He succeeded because Branch Rickey, who was associated with the Brooklyn Dodgers wanted him. Jackie’s race held him up and he finished with a victory. Lastly, there will be times throughout life where struggles will be lessons learned. We all want to succeed and we have to endure conflict to make progress. Teenagers have many struggles to overcome. There is jealousy, peer pressure, bullies, and relationships just to name a few. These conflicts help a teenager grow when at times they want to give up. In conclusion, we never expect to have struggles in our life. Those struggles are what lead us to being a well rounded individual. We have to work hard, move forward, and keep our heads held high. If we do this, life has no boundaries that we can’t overcome.
Adversities are often given a negative connotation and view, as most consider them to be hurdles which impede progress. Nevertheless when taken in and accepted under a positive light, adversities can serve as stepping stones through which an individual can better their character. In the face of looming obstacles individuals who persevere come out of the situation as stronger, determined, and more hopeful for the future.
... front of me since the road to success is far away. Facing unknown obstacles is like drowning in water because obstacles are weighted heavily and sometimes I can't lift it. I just have to use my strength and hopefully, I can raise it off me. I learned that sometimes it is better to have a little false hope than to have none. Perseverance doesn’t not come naturally to all people but eventually it will come because they will find it. It helps them find their inner self by going through obstacles so that they can be more of a life challenge. I believe that this can change a person who they are because it is something everyone needs to go through life.
When telling a story, it is necessary for there to be a main character which is usually a hero. They try to find themselves or fulfill a task in order to be true to who they are. While they are trying to find who they are or fulfill a task to stay true they conquer obstacles that are standing in the way for them to succeed. Some heroes succeed some fail. Odysseus from the Odyssey is a good example of a hero who fulfills his tasks in order to be true to who he is by having a quest or a mission to get back home after the Trojan war to his dear wife and family. He has obstacles trying to return and reclaim his home, Ithaca. The obstacles are, being held hostage by a Cyclops, Poseidon making the ocean difficult for Odysseus and his men, being held hostage by two goddesses, and when he arrives home he is faced with the suitors who try to take Penelope as their wife and taking everything from their home.
It is true that obstacles in life are uncomfortable and unsupportable experiences, but if we would learn to look at the bright sides of problems, keep seeking opportunities, manage situations and learn from failures then the difficulties that we face in our life would turn out for the better not only in the present but also in the
In most movies, novels, and stories, there is a main character that goes through a journey. Sometimes they go on journeys without even realizing it and they are all different. This is usually known as a Hero’s journey. You don't have to always be attacking monsters or killing enemies, but instead be going through obstacles or challenges that is brought by everyday life. In The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus had an incredibly hard journey but he always had motivation to keep him going. His one motivation was getting back to his family and wife Penelope. He never once gave up even though he was hit by many obstacles that should have caused him to fall apart. Like Odysseus, even though i was hit with something that made me want to give up
An example of this kind of story would be Beowulf, where as Beowulf is the protagonist ...
Only individuals who are patient and who have a strong determination can achieve their goals through the means of persevering. Many people may fail at persevering through tasks because these tasks are often times difficult. Many times, people get discouraged and quit. As Samuel Johnson once said, “Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance”. This quote explains how the best outcomes come from persistence. Whenever one is faced with a problem, they are tempted to ignore it, rather than solve it. However, by not giving up and working diligently until this problem is solved, a desirable outcome will result. This quote and concept is shown furthermore in the works, The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway and in Unwind by Neal Shusterman.
One of the reasons I think stories such as fables are important to people is because they let people express complex ideas in an easy to understand fashion. The Search: To get started with my research on fables I looked up the definition of “fable”. I also asked my mother what she thought a fable was, and she ended up describing a fairy tale. I found out that fables were mostly stories revolving around animals acting out an event with a moral to it. Then I went to a website where all the fables were listed and just started reading all of them, listing the ones I wanted to write about.
In my four years of high school, I’ve had ups and downs. I’ve had many obstacles in my way and negativity as well. But I have never let them bring me down. I always find a way to get back on track and do better than I did before. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how great you are but the effort you put in to get back up. The progress you show to be on top is very important for everything such as in school, sports and even jobs. So when I am given the question that if progress is always good, ofcourse it is. In life you always want to progress.
The question that progress occurs only when there is struggle and conflict suggests that we are only able to achieve something in life by overcoming obstacles or fighting for what we want. In other words, is there a way to achieve something you can be proud of without fighting for it? In my opinion, the only way that we can even fathom the idea of success is to overcome obstacles and demonstrate a drive to win.
If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.
...e our successes.” (Quote from The Poisonwood Bible). Balance is something I have had to learn over the years. I still struggle time to time. I throw myself into a project 110% and then struggle to keep up with my day to day responsibilities. I have learned to say no. It is not easy and I can still tend to bite off more than I can chew. Being a perfectionist adds to this struggle. An important part of this quote is that both our injuries, which could be weakness or failures and our successes make us who we are. Mistakes are a natural and necessary part of life. Through them we grow. Albert Einstein said, “Failure is success in progress.” The important thing is to never give up. We never know when the next try will be the one that finally works. Galatians 6:9 says, “So we must not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up”.
Throughout the classical era, epics were commonly written narratives. They tell the stories of heroes and their journeys, and they were written with the intent to inspire the people who heard it and to display the beliefs of the writer and their people. A positive trait found in some epics is bravery. An example of this is found in the retelling of Theseus. When Theseus was on his journey to Athens, he came across a crew of bandits, and he killed them all, being sure to make sure that none of them were left to be able to ambush any other travelers (page 1029, Elements of Literature: Fourth Course - Theseus, Hamilton). Another example of bravery is seen at the end of the tale of Theseus, when he is merciful to the people of Thebes, and help
There will be trials and hardships to overcome along the road to making a difference, but consider what Hellen Keller once wrote, "The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were not limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse." It is true that undergoing hard work in order to achieve one's dreams makes the arrival at success even more gratifying.
Stories can be useful tools to spread the Gospel. Jesus used stories in the form of parables to explain important lessons to his followers. He did this because it made his lessons easier for people to understand and relate to if they were in story form. This is similar to how teachers
