Perseverance and Grit Grit is a trait you can not live without, if you want to succeed in college . Angela Duckworth described grit as sticking with things over the very long term until they are mastered. Grit is passion and perseverance for very long term goals, grit is sticking with your future day in and day out not for a week or for the month but for years. working really hard to make that future a reality. Living life like it's a marathon not a sprint. The motivation of college students has been largely defined by the presence of grit and perseverance. By having Grit you are more likely to complete college. Grit helps when college is hard. It was even stated by Angela Duckworth that people who succeed in getting their associates degree are on average more gritty than those who succeed in getting their bachelor degree. Junior college is harder it takes a lot to graduate from a two year college versus a four year college. If you think about it a lot of students who are going to community colleges has to endure many variables; many of them are first generation students meaning they are the first in their face to go to college. Poverty is a big issue some students come from families with little to no income. That factors in itself shows grit. Going to college and maintaining acceptable grades with little money to eat or pay for transportation. Ideas of dropping out of school passes through one's mind; however, you never go through with the thought; that shows grit.
