When I think of the performing arts, I think of plays. The combination of the live performance and the acting of the script, that’s what makes it a Performing art, right? Yes, but what I did not know is that Dance is also a performing art. Magic, music, even movies are examples of the Performing Arts. When asking the question, I found myself learning about examples and different types of the arts rather than what the definition of what a performing art is. The variety of genres under Performing arts are constituted by the abstract qualities that make up a performing art. To put it simply, the performing arts include a kind of performance. Movies are made with a broader audience in mind, and are used as a means of “escaping” and unwinding. They are made with a combination of a script and the world as their stage essentially. There are multitudes of different genres of movies, from romance, horror, action, suspense, the list goes on and on. Movies take place all over the world, in a myriad of different environnements. Movies seem to captivate emotion differently than plays, and I believe that is due to the polished look of a movie.The scenes and camera angles and timings are all rehearsed and edited to perfection. A play is a live performance, to a select audience, shown with more intimate intention. It’s typically showing for a select few nights, at one theatre. Compared to plays, the ultimate attraction to movies comes from the fantasy and relaxed elements a theater provides. You get to immerse yourself in characters that aren’t real, relate to situations that aren’t happening, and let your mind wonder. The movies are showing every day, at all times of the day, all around town. Movies have become “classics” and “Masterpieces” like old musicians and art pieces. During this scene the director goes for a full helicopter beauty shot that captures the ship in all its’ glory (1:19:03). The scene celebrates the ship and Jack giving the audience a joyful feeling, like nothing could ever turn wrong. This was done in order to make the audience appreciate the full beauty of the ship before the catastrophe, in order to understand the peril that was the Titanic’s sinking. The scene was originally filmed on a rotating turntable, and as the camera zooms out the character's transition from real people to CGI characters when you can’t see them. These effects and visuals are used to further enhance the scene of a movie. Having these visual aids helps build the drama of the scene, so the visual aspect is heavily relied on.
