Vocals are a part of a piece of music that is sung and a musical performance involved in singing. Vocals are a key when it comes to music and singing. It is what makes a singer who he/she is. It is what helps us blend, and control our sound qualities. The better the sound quality and the tone, the better the singer and the control over the vocals. It is a muscle that requires workouts and rest, so that we can a healthy voice. One important point to note is that our vocal cords and our breath should be in balance with each other when we are singing, and we cannot do without the other. This means we that we cannot produce sound without air going across our vocal cords, and vice versa, if we do not have our vocal cords, we would unable to produce …show more content…
sound even if we have more than enough breath for support. Good warm ups for the vocals are humming, lip trill, and scale singing. Our vocal cords are also our voice box. These cords produce sound through rapid vibration with the passage of air between the set of cords. When the air passes through the cords, forcing them apart, the cords immediately close back, creating multiple vibrations at a certain frequency, and this creates what our human ear perceives as the sound of our voice. This also means that our vocal cords bear the brunt of the air pressure created when we sing. It is also a fact that our cords can control our breath, by shutting completely and not letting any air out of our body. You can also demonstrate how our cords control our breathing by holding your breath and leaving your mouth open. It is this important set of muscles that is holding back the breath in our body, and once our cords are open, the breath will be able to pass through. Another thing is, when we sing low notes they are less tense and less stretched out.
However, for high notes, our cords are much more tense and more stretched out. This would mean that we need to be more careful when we start to sing higher and higher notes, as our vocal muscles are subject to more and more strain, and they would then be more vulnerable to vocal abuse. This is one of the reason we train our voices and make them stronger so this won't happen. Vocal exercises are extremely important for us to develop a great singing voice. It would also be good to get a vocal instructor to teach and help make your voice stronger. It is also good to remember that we need breath in order to vocalize even the slightest sustained word or note, and breath support is vital in helping you to produce a well-supported and stable sound. Some people even auto tune their voices. Everyone has their different types of ways of how they use they vocals and how they train them. Vocals can be harmed other ways. Smoking is a way to mess up the vocals and the breath support you need to sing. It affects the lungs which you need to to bring in breath. It also can affect the throat because you can cough and it would be a huge problem if you have a hole in your throat and can rarely sing or
talk. It is also very important not to crush your throat. If you are sick or ill, with a sore throat then you must take a break from singing or hardly speaking. You can damage your throat and voice box even more if you attempt to. Vocals are what makes most choirs and singers successful today and I believe they use various ways to warm up and train their voices. And they take care of their vocals well.

The last, but probably one of the most important things we have to do when we sing, is to listen to each other and to sing with the mood of the music. If it is a soft song we are singing, then we can’t sing loudly in the piece, and if it is a song requiring a lot of energy, we have to be enthusiastic.
People have dreams of what they want to do or accomplish in life, but usually musical theatre is just pushed into the non-realistic void. It isn’t a dream for me. In the past four years, musical theatre has been clarified as my reality. Musical theatre has been the only thing I have seen myself wanting to do. My first love was The Phantom of the Opera, seeing how I watched it almost every day and it was one of the first shows I saw. Of course, I started doing all of those cute shows in middle school and making a huge deal about it to my family and friends, but I have never felt so passionate about something. The minute I get up on that stage I throw away Riley for two and a half hours and it’s the most amazing feeling! Being able to tell a story
Of all musical genres country music is perhaps the one most influenced by a male presence. Country music is often associated with the classic cowboy strumming a guitar around a campfire or riding his horse with a guitar strapped to his back. Even the politics of country music is inclined towards a male-dominated, republican, conservative, pro-war stance (Spong 184). The stereotypical women of country music “behave properly” and passively follow the same values as men do. Therefore, in 2003 when the Dixie Chicks, a three member all female country music band, became the top selling female group of all time it was quite an accomplishment. Their success began in 1997 with an image that embraced their versatility. Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, who are sisters, played fiddle and banjo and provided background vocals to lead vocalist Natalie Maines, gifted with a strong, clear voice. Maines stood out from the others with her forceful stage presence. They wore feminine, bling infused, non-countrified outfits. They were pretty to look at and kind of goofy in demeanor (129). The kind of young women fans could imagine having a lot of fun with, but also the kind that young women could identify with through their music. Songs like “Goodbye Earl” described a strong woman who has had enough of her abusive husband and ends up killing him. However, the band delivered it in a style that was far from morose. It sent a clear message of girl power for many women (129). Many accolades followed from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association (CMA) which included Entertainer of the Year, Top Vocal Group, and album of the Year (Towner 293). During the first five years of their career they sold 28 million copies of the three records...

Theatre has heavily evolved over the past 100 years, particularly Musical Theatre- a subgenre of theatre in which the storyline is conveyed relying on songs and lyrics rather than dialogue. From its origination in Athens, musical theatre has spread across the world and is a popular form of entertainment today. This essay will discuss the evolution and change of musical theatre from 1980-2016, primarily focusing on Broadway (New York) and the West End (London). It will consider in depth, the time periods of: The 1980s: “Brit Hits”- the influence of European mega musicals, the 1990s: “The downfall of musicals”- what failed and what redeemed, and the 2000s/2010s: “The Resurgence of musicals”- including the rise of pop and movie musicals. “My life’s been a country song; it’s been the words when I couldn’t find ‘em. A friend when I’ve been alone. It’s been the toast to remember, the strength for moving on...” — Chris Cagle. The thought might run across your head, what is exactly is country music anyways. According to Dictioray.com country music is defined as “a style and genre of largely string-accompanied American popular music having roots in the folk music of the Southeast and cowboy music of the West, usually vocalized generally simple in form and harmony, and typified by romantic or melancholy ballads accompanied by acoustic or electric guitar, banjo, violin, and harmonica.” Everyone has their different imputation of country music. People who do not like country music thinks it just talking
The voice is our primary mean of communication and expression. We rarely last more than a few minutes without its use whether it is talking to someone else or humming quietly to ourselves. We can use the voice artistically in many ways. For example, singing carries the rhythm and melody of speech. It creates patterns of pitch, loudness, and duration that tie together syllables, phrases and sentences. We use the voice for survival, emotion, expression, and to reflect our personality. The loss of the voice is a severe curtailment to many professions. It is affected by general body condition which is why we need to consider the location of the larynx and how that organ produces voice. Surprisingly, this complex biological design is mechanical in function. It is mechanical to the point that when it has been excised from a cadaver and mounted on a laboratory bench, the larynx produces sounds resembling normal phonation. (Titze, Principles)
It started with me watching the movie ‘Scream’ one night and hearing the song ‘Youth Of America’ by the band ‘Birdbrain’. It was catchy, so I thought I’d download it. I didn’t know the name of the song at the time, so the next morning I jumped on my girlfriend’s laptop to do a lyrics search. This was in 2007, I don’t know if you remember, but this was around the time YouTube was really blowing up, and everyone was posting those ridiculous lip-synching music videos. You remember, the ones where some overly energetic teenager was just riffing away in front of a cheap webcam, resulting in a terribly pixelated video, overdubbed with an MP3 song file.
Many researchers have been study about the effects of music on performance in different criteria. Music has been related to better memory in which people study about something which is repeating that makes them remember with no trouble (Konantz, 2012). Memory is the action of recalling information that was learned and retained the important ones through associative mechanisms (as cited in, Meriam Webster, n.d.). Music is a pattern of sounds made by music instrument which intended to give pleasure to people who listen. It has some unique effects in the brain related to emotion, learning and memory (Jon Lieff, 2013). We might need music to help us to go through our daily life activities such as driving, studying and
If one desires to fully understand and have competency in training a singer with a low voice, they must first understand what decides a voice type and timbre. The sound of a singer’s voice has multiple deciding variables. These variables consist partially of the size and shape of the larynx, the formation of the respiratory and resonating systems. A singer with a lower voice possesses longer and thicker vocal folds whereas a singer with a higher voice has shorter and thinner vocal folds. In most cases, male vocal folds are longer while female vocal folds are shorter, male vocal folds being on average between 1.75 centimeters and 2.5 centimeters in length and female vocal folds being generally between 1.25 and 1.75 centimeters in length. When people see young children play instruments skillfully, they say, “ That child must be really talented.” But have you ever witnessed or heard someone say, “ That child must be really intelligent” when they see a child who is musically talented? No right? Not many have ever really considered the concept that musical talent could be correlated to human intellect. So does being musically talented affect a child’s intelligence? According to my research, music does have a direct impact on human intellect.
